Chapter 1 - The Divination Ceremony

Eryndor Thorne stood among the students, eyes fixed on the stage where the Headmaster and a mysterious old woman stood. The air was thick with anticipation as they waited for the profession and talent divination ceremony. This ceremony was a rite of passage for Silvermist Academy students. It revealed hidden potential and unlocked unique talents.

Eryndor's thoughts were a mix of excitement and nerves. He felt like an outcast, a stranger in a world that made sense to everyone else. Today, he might finally get answers.

The Headmaster raised his hands, and the room fell silent. "The time has come to reveal your destinies!" he declared. "Let the divination begin!"

The old woman stepped forward, eyes gleaming with mystical power. She wove a complex pattern with her staff, and the air distorted. Eryndor felt a strange sensation in his mind, as if the old woman's magic probed his soul.

One by one, the students stepped forward to receive their divination. Some were declared warriors, others mages, and a few were chosen for the mysterious Order of the Veil.

Eryndor watched, his anxiety growing with each passing moment. Finally, it was his turn.

Eryndor stepped forward, his heart pounding in his chest. The old woman's eyes locked onto his, and she spoke in a voice that sent shivers down his spine.

"Eryndor Thorne, Descendant of...?" The old woman's voice faltered, and the room fell silent.

Eryndor's heart skipped a beat as he waited for her to continue. But she didn't. Instead, she looked at him with a mixture of confusion and curiosity.

Eryndor felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him. What did it mean? What was a Descendant? Why did his existence seem mysterious, even to himself?

As the students began to murmur and speculate, Eryndor felt a sense of unease growing inside him. He didn't know what the future held, but he knew one thing for sure: his life was about to change in ways he couldn't even imagine.

The Headmaster's voice cut through the noise, his expression serious. "Eryndor Thorne, please come to my office after the ceremony. We need to discuss your... unique situation."

Eryndor nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation. What did the Headmaster want to talk to him about? And what did it mean to be a Descendant?

As the ceremony drew to a close, Eryndor couldn't shake off the feeling that his life was about to take a dramatic turn. He was about to embark on a journey that would challenge everything he thought he knew about himself and his place in the world.

But for now, he had to wait. Wait for the Headmaster's explanation, wait for the truth about his past, and wait for the unknown dangers that lurked in the shadows, waiting to strike.

Years went by, and Eryndor graduated from Silvermist Academy, becoming a skilled archaeologist. He landed a job at a prestigious research library, where he spent his days uncovering secrets and piecing together the mysteries of the past.

But on his 21st birthday, Eryndor's life took a dramatic turn. He was walking home from work on a crisp autumn evening when he noticed a strange, pungent smell wafting through the air. Suddenly...a figure emerged from the shadows, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly intensity. Eryndor's heart skipped a beat as the figure began to move towards him, its movements fluid and menacing.

Eryndor tried to run, but his feet felt heavy, as if they were rooted to the spot. The figure loomed closer, its eyes burning with an inner fire.

And then, everything went black.

When Eryndor came to, he was lying on the ground, his head throbbing with pain. The figure was nowhere to be seen, but he could sense that something was off. The air felt charged with electricity, and he could feel a strange, pulsating energy coursing through his veins.

As he struggled to his feet, Eryndor noticed something strange. His hands were glowing with a soft, blue light. He stared at them in wonder, unsure of what was happening.

The light began to pulse faster, and Eryndor felt a surge of energy flow through him. He raised his hands, and to his amazement, a blast of energy shot out, illuminating the dark street.

Eryndor stumbled backward, shocked and terrified. What was happening to him? He had never exhibited any supernatural abilities before. Was this some kind of freak accident?

As he stood there, trying to make sense of what was happening, a figure emerged from the shadows once more. This time, it was a woman with piercing green eyes and long, flowing hair the color of midnight.

"You're one of us," she said, her voice low and mysterious. "You have the mark."

Eryndor looked down at his hands, still glowing with the soft, blue light. What did she mean? What mark?

The woman smiled, her eyes glinting with a knowing light. "You'll learn soon enough," she said. "For now, let's just say that your life is about to get a lot more interesting."

And with that, she turned and disappeared into the night, leaving Eryndor staring after her in confusion and wonder.

What had just happened? And what did it mean for his future?

Eryndor's mind was racing with questions as he stood there, his hands still glowing with the soft, blue light. He knew that his life would never be the same again.

But he had no idea just how much his world was about to be turned upside down.
