Chapter 1 - The Innocence of Sophia

The early morning sun cast golden streaks across the sky as Sophia adjusted her long skirt and buttoned up her white blouse. At eighteen, she was the pride of her parents, raised in a strict Christian home where values of purity and discipline were deeply ingrained. Her father, Pastor James, was a well-respected minister in their local church, and her mother, Deaconess Esther, upheld the family's reputation with unwavering dedication. Sophia had spent her entire life under their watchful eyes, attending church services, leading choir practice, and memorizing Bible verses. Now, standing in front of the mirror, she took a deep breath. Today was a big day—her first day at Victory University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the country. A mixture of excitement and nervousness filled her chest. "Sophia, are you ready?" her mother called from the living room. "Yes, ma," she replied, grabbing her neatly packed suitcase. As she stepped out, her father placed a hand on her shoulder, his eyes filled with warmth. "Remember who you are, my daughter. The world is full of temptations, but stay strong in the Lord." "I will, Daddy," she assured him with a gentle smile. Her younger siblings, David and Ruth, clung to her in farewell hugs, while her mother slipped a small Bible into her bag. "Always read this, Sophia. It will guide you." With one last wave, she got into the car, her father driving her toward a new chapter of her life—one that neither of them knew would change her forever. Victory University – A New Beginning The grand gates of Victory University loomed before her, the school's motto boldly engraved above: "Knowledge, Power, Integrity." Students bustled around, some chatting excitedly, others dragging suitcases toward the hostels. Sophia stepped out of the car, clutching her bag tightly. Everything felt overwhelming—the noise, the freedom, the unfamiliar faces. "This is it," her father said, helping her with her luggage. "Your hostel is Block C, Room 204." They walked through the large campus, passing students dressed in a variety of outfits, some too revealing for Sophia's comfort. She averted her gaze, silently praying for strength. Finally, they reached the hostel. After a brief inspection, Pastor James pulled her into a final embrace. "Stay focused. Don't let distractions ruin your future." "I won't, Daddy." With a last nod, he left, and for the first time in her life, Sophia was truly alone. She took a deep breath, looking around her new room. A bed, a small table, and a shared wardrobe. It wasn't home, but it was her space now. As she unpacked, the door burst open, and a lively girl with heavy makeup and ripped jeans strolled in. "Hey! You must be my new roommate. I'm Sandra." Sophia turned, offering a polite smile. "I'm Sophia." Sandra smirked, eyeing Sophia's modest outfit. "Wow, you're one of those church girls, huh? Don't worry, I'll show you how to have real fun here." Sophia stiffened, gripping her Bible. She didn't need fun. She needed to focus. But as she would soon learn, university had a way of changing people. And her journey was only just beginning.
