Chapter 1 - Found you

I'm doing this for practice to get better at writing. So if there are any mistakes in grammar and punctuation please forgive me. This is my first novel so read this with extremely low expectations. With that being said I'll try my best to entertain you!

-----------------------------------------------------------

The warm rays of the sun pierced through the window of a bedroom located in a small apartment. Inside said bedroom were scattered cup noodles and heaps of trash. "Grah" a groan could be heard as a young man slowly sat up from the dirty mattress he was laying down on.

"What time is it?" He looked around disoriented as he rubbed his eyes. He stood up from the filthy mattress as he maneuvered his way to the bedroom door. He would step over the cup noodles and the trash most of which were lottery tickets.

He left his bedroom, grabbed the remote, and turned on the TV, which was currently showing the news. "Late last night the north Eastern walls to the city of Felgardis were brought down by an Apex tier monster." At this the young mans faced shifted into a frown. "Guess that means more work for me then huh." The young man would say. 'Man, working in construction is the worst... But it's the only way for me to pay of his debt.'

After standing there in his thoughts for a little bit longer the young man opened a door leading him to the bathroom. It had white walls with a small shower. He would look into the mirror and look at his reflection.

Curly dark brown hair, streaked with lighter highlights, framed his face. His eyes had bags under them and he has dark brown pupils. He stood at about 5'10 with no shoes on and he has a lean build with a fair bit of muscle.

He stopped staring at himself as he began removing his clothes in preparation to take a shower.

Time skips to him putting on his shoes in front of his front door. "Ah shit I'm gonna be late!" He'd say as he burst out of the door and locked it behind him. "Hey Kian!" A voice called out just as he locked the door. Looking to his right the young man now named Kian saw a young boy looking to be around 12 years old. He had jet black hair with big round blue eyes. He looked to be around 5'2.

"Oh Caleb how's your dad doing it's been a while since I've seen him outside." Kian would say as he walks up to the boy now named Caleb. "He's been better. I honestly think he's getting worse. Yeah sure he's been sick before but never like this." Caleb's voice had a sad tone as Kian ruffled his hair up with his right hand. "Hey he's going to be fine so turn that frown upside down! Oh shit I gotta get to work soon otherwise I'll be late!" Kian said as he ran off with Caleb waving at him.

The scene changes to a bustling a vibrant city with people walking on sidewalks and cars passing by. Laughter and chatter filled the streets, people lived life unaware of the looming terror above.

In the heart of Felgardis, a journalist adjusted his mic as the camera rolled. "And in other news, the reconstruction of the North Eastern Wall is set to begin today. Authorities assure us that no further attacks are expected—"

His voice cut off as a strange, burning light filled the sky with a strange red glow. Gasps and screams erupted around him as he looked up.

And then everything turned to ash.

The blinding red light crashed into the ground destroying everything in a 1000 meter radius. Almost everything and everyone within that radius turned to ashes. The shockwave tore through the city, toppling large buildings and hurling people through the air.

The crater hissed from the impact as dust surrounded it. The surrounding area was deathly silent until... a small sound could be heard. Then the ground started trembling and a shadow shifted inside of the smoldering pit.

Rising from the crater stood a towering, 9-meter-tall humanoid monster. It had an incredibly muscular physique with dark green skin It had two large horns forming a spiral formation. Black tattoos adorned their body picturing humans that formed a line eating each other in a spiral pattern depicting humans devouring one another in an endless cycle of suffering.

A survivor within the pit groaned loudly, their entire body scorched. It had been a miracle that they were still alive. They tried to reach out to the hulking monster and begged for help thinking that they were there to rescue them. "P-please.... h-help me" They whimpered pathetically. "You are not the one I seek," the monster muttered, almost bored. The survivor's breath hitched as a massive foot pressed against his chest. "P-please… I—" An audible crack echoed out through the Crater left behind from his fall.

The screams ended as quickly as they began. The monster lifted its foot, kicking the lifeless body aside like garbage. It sniffed the air, a slow, menacing grin creeping across its face.

"So that's where you are… I'll have my hands on you soon. And when I do…" The monster's voice darkened. "Avarice will die."

The scene changes to Kian currently in a busy blue bus full of middle aged men wearing heavy equipment. They were all wearing white jumpsuits with a red emblem on their chest. It read "Repair division."

Kian would be leaning his head against the window on the right side of the bus. 'I hope Caleb's doing okay. I know losing a parent at such a young age can leave mental scars on someone.... I of all people would know that '

"Hey Kian are you alright? You seem to be lost in your thoughts." An old looking man sitting to the right of him asked. "I know working in construction for the chaos agency isn't easy especially for someone so young so make sure to take a break every so often."

"I would love to old man Ross but I need to make enough money to be free of that bastards debt. I can't waste a single da -

Suddenly a blinding red light shines from the sky catching the attention of everyone inside of the bus. "W-what the hell!" Yelled a man sitting near the front of the bus. Kian looked up with shock on his face. The eerie glow of the falling orb was getting closer every second until eventually.

BOOM!

A loud bang rung throughout the area causing everyone's ears to ring. This was eventually followed by a shockwave that ripped through the bus and all nearby buildings. Everyone inside of the bus were flying around with so much force that someone snapped their neck.

The last thing Kian thought of before being knocked unconscious was 'I hope Caleb's okay.'

-----------------------------------------------------------

COUGH!

It had been who knows how long but Kian finally woke up. His vision was blurry but it's not like it mattered anyways. He was about to die. A huge piece of glass was currently stabbing through his ribcage. He was going to remove it but he realized how stupid that idea was.

However his thought process was cut short by the sound of heavy footsteps. Kian's breath hitched as the heavy footsteps approached. A massive shadow loomed over him, its voice distorted, almost inhuman. He barely processed the words through the haze of pain-

"Found you."
