Chapter 1 - 01:Awakening in a New Reality.

Earth

North America, United States.

Chinatown, New York.

At nine o'clock in the morning, on the sofa in an old apartment, Rory wore a solemn expression. His true identity was that of somone else. A traveler, a foreigner, a isekaied. Whatever you want to call it.

If it weren't for the news on TV that Stark Industries had closed its weapons department, Rory might have thought he had entered a parallel world. Rory was merely a movie lover and a comic book reader—the kind of stories and plots familiar to fans of superhero movies were, for him, just vague memories. He tried his best to recall them but could only remember a few key moments in the plot—for example, the Battle of New York with its thousands of casualties.

And the rise and fall of Ultron, with unknown casualties...

And the final battle in which Thanos killed half of the universe's population with a snap of his fingers!

As these thoughts passed through his mind, Rory couldn't help but shudder. After all, watching superhero movies was one thing; experiencing them in person was quite another. Moreover, the Rory who had traveled through time and space had merged with the memories of an ordinary teenager with the same name—one whose parents had died. Cliché? Yes.

He had no money, no power, and no superpowers. Now, Rory could only choose to live in the home of his guardian aunt. He helped out in his aunt's Chinese restaurant every day in his free time, collecting small tips from customers as he tried to save up tuition for college.

Ahh yes tuition and in America? Good luck, actually scrap that, GG's.

Well, isn't that just fantastic.

Rory wasn't without thoughts of running away. As long as he maxed out his aunt's credit card and saved enough, a plane ticket to another country would be more than enough. Perhaps Rory would even have a chance to meet the Ancient One of Kamar-Taj and become a magic apprentice—even if his identity as a anomal was discovered and then get invited for tea by S.H.I.E.L.D. Perhaps that outcome is far better than becoming just another statistic in the Battle of New York.

However, the Rory who had merged with the memories of that ordinary teenager found it impossible to sever the bonds with his aunt—a woman who had cared for him since childhood. Moreover, the abruptly changed living environment and the stubborn emotions typical of middle-aged people were not challenges that a young man like Rory could easily overcome.

So, the quick-witted Rory managed to pay part of his tuition by renting the basement of the old apartment. He borrowed tools from his neighbors and repeatedly reinforced the space with steel and wooden boards, while storing plenty of food and fresh water. At the same time, he hoped that when the New York War broke out, he and his aunt would still be safely at home. The wall clock ticked on, and soon it was half past nine. Rory got up and set out to begin his day's routine. In the morning, he attended the final year of high school; in the afternoon, he helped his aunt run the Chinese restaurant; and in the evening, he continued to reinforce the basement. With borrowed tools to return soon, time was very tight.

"Huh?"

At that moment, a series of garbled letters suddenly flashed before Rory's eyes like an illusion:

[Warhammer 40K: Life Simulator Starting—

[Do you want to start the first simulation?]

Warhammer 40K?

This is not a tabletop war game.

Is it a futuristic science fiction IP built together with cultural creations such as novels, comics, games, animations, etc.?]

Rory frowned in confusion. In his previous life, he had been nothing more than a Warhammer fan. His main channel for learning about Warhammer had been the video website Bilibili, where a series of high-quality Warhammer story videos were produced by UP host Colonel Dutch.

After diving into that pit of information, he occasionally read detailed articles on famous battles and the background stories of certain characters. Rory still retained a clear understanding of the basic storylines and the general composition of the various races in the Warhammer universe. However, when it came to the details of battles on a particular planet or identifying the mastermind behind a certain incident, Rory could only say that he was, in a sense, blind to such specifics.

But for Rory, why was the "golden finger" of the time traveler connected to the Warhammer universe? It was a dark, ignorant, and desperate realm—full of demons and snakes! Chaos was rampant, the empire corrupt, and alien civilizations coveting everything. Any hope was merely a tiny spark that might delay the universe's ultimate destruction. If every traveler were given a choice, only a few mentally confused masochists would opt for the Warhammer universe. Moreover, even if such masochists arrived, would they weep as if their toes had been stepped on? At that moment, Rory was thoroughly confused—but that did nothing to lessen his concern for his own safety. In order to live a better life, he had to gamble with his golden finger.

[Simulation starting—]

[You have entered the Warhammer universe]

[Time: Unknown]

[Location: Milky Way (unknown star field)]

[The moment you stepped onto the surface of the planet, the subspace vibrated mysteriously, and the eyes of the Four Chaos Gods fell upon you.]

[You hold your head with both hands and kneel down to wail.]

[xxxxxx appears in your mind (shielded)]

[Your skull exploded.]

[You are dead.]

[This simulation ends in fifteen seconds.]

[This simulation failed to retain any options]

[Since the simulation time was less than 24 hours, simulator loss has been waived]

This…dead?

Rory blinked, looking bewildered. He had not yet recovered from that fleeting death. Even if this was the universe of Warhammer 40K, the difficulty of survival was simply too great.

"The Four Chaos Gods!"

Rory stared at the text on the simulator and suddenly understood everything. "I know too much about the Warp..."

The Four Chaos Gods, also known as the Warp Evil Gods, were born in the Warp during the outbreak of the Heavenly War between the Necrontyr and the Ancients, spawned by the negative emotions of countless intelligent beings across the universe. Thus far, Chaos was immortal, and the Four Chaos Gods were likewise. The more chaotic the Warhammer universe became, the more powerful the Four Chaos Gods grew—and the more powerful they were, the further chaos reigned. For 40,000 years, there had been no hope, only war.

"Can I block my memory?" Rory tentatively asked the simulator. Unfortunately, the simulator was merely a tool—not a system that operated continuously. "I just don't believe this evil!" His stubborn temper flared. Since he had no plans to go to class, he simply sat back on the sofa.

[Simulation starting—]

[You have arrived in the Warhammer universe]

[Time: Unknown]

[Location: Unknown star field]

[The moment you stepped onto the surface of the planet, you began to pray desperately to the Emperor. The Warp shook again, and the eyes of the Four Chaos Gods fell upon you once more.]

[Your prayers to the Emperor seemed to have no effect.]

You held your head with both hands and knelt on the ground wailing.

[You are on the verge of death, and in a trance, you seem to see a cold sun shining upon your soul...]

[Your skull exploded.]

[You are dead.]
