Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Shadows of the Past

The metal tools clinked softly in the workshop located behind their modest Willowbrook home. It was like that. The grandfather of Ethan and Amelia, Gerard West was sitting hunched over a worn-down workbench, carefully cutting the blade of an old longsword. His gray hair was tied back in a loose knot, and the lines on his face indicated years of struggle and sacrifice.

Upon entering, Ethan called out "Grandpa.".

Gerard didn't look up right away. He concentrated on the whetstone blade, which shook with force, in front of him. After a brief moment, he took off the sword and turned to face Ethan.

Despite his tone of silence, Gerard acknowledged that he had arrived late, but it was not in jest.

Ethan expressed his desire for Amelia to train by leaning against the doorway. "She didn't understand it.".

Gerard's pride was evident on his face, but he quickly disguised it. "Good.". She will need to learn. We all will. ".

With curiosity, Ethan walked into the workshop and saw the walls covered in weapons and tools. Certain items were remnants of their previous existence, symbolizing the West family's modest heritage as farmers and warriors. A few individuals were more recent and huddled together during their hiding.

"Grandpa, 'grandpable,' do you think they are still searching for us?" Ethan replied with uncertainty.

He looked gloomy.' Gerard continued: 'Ethan you are always my friend! People who exterminated us were not involved in sports. Their goal is clear, and they'll continue hunting until there are no survivors. ".

His jaw bowed and Ethan's hands made fisting sounds. The weight of their family's massacre was too much for him to bear, regardless of how much he trained.

"He sounded curious about our cause. He inquired, 'Why are we being targeted?'".

With a shiver in his eyes, Gerard asked, "What is this question I have been asking myself for ten years?". Despite not being the strongest or most influential family, they had something to fear. ".

"The bloodline, " Ethan guessed.

The only reason I can think of is that," Gerard nodded. Earlier, our blood line was ordinary.?... Despite its strength, the attention it garnered was insufficient to cause our downfall. However, upon entering that pool, something happened.. Something awakened. ".

The intense pain, the visions, and an inexplicable force of that night drew Ethan back to his sleep. It seemed as though the pool had opened up a portion of him that he was unaware of, but at.

"My development hasn't progressed, despite my efforts," Ethan expressed with emotion. "I feel like I am trapped inside.".

"I am unable to break through even after intense training.".

He looked at his grandson with a thoughtful look. "You are not stuck, Ethan," Gerard said. Your bloodline is unique. I feel as though the flames are about to ignite, but they haven't fully sparked. You will surpass all expectations when it comes to your success. Until that moment, you must be patient. Discipline, resilience, and the ability to predict when to take action are key factors in achieving strength. ".

"Ethan nodded slowly, but the frustration still lingered beneath his skin." It was like feeling helpless.

Gerard expressed his confidence in the strength of this individual. "You have exceeded my expectations and you are much more capable than I was.".

We are hopeful that you can revive our family's reputation and retrieve what we have lost.... It's important to be attentive, Ethan. Ignorance will result in your death.

Ground Ethan, his words ringing in his grandfather's. He took deep breaths, and that's how much.

"I understand, " he said.

With a firm nod, Gerard stood up and presented Ethan with the sword he had just acquired. "Take this.". You must start your training with something more substantial than wooden sticks.

The blade was so heavy that Ethan gripped it with a sense of familiarity. "Thank you, Lord.".

As he left, Gerard called out. "Ethan, don't forget that West has influence beyond their genes.". It's in their will. Never forget that. ".
