Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A Glimpse of Light

The weeks passed, and Lin Xia found herself looking forward to her lessons with Gu Yan more than anything else. Each session was a mix of music and quiet conversation, as Gu Yan slowly began to open up about his past. Though he still carried a shadow of sadness, Lin Xia noticed small changes—a faint smile here, a lighter melody there. It was as if the weight he had been carrying was slowly lifting.

One afternoon, as they sat in the studio, Gu Yan played a new piece. It was different from his usual compositions—brighter, more hopeful, with a melody that seemed to dance like sunlight on water. Lin Xia listened, captivated by the shift in tone.

"This is beautiful," she said when he finished. "What's it called?"

"*A Glimpse of Light*," Gu Yan replied, his voice soft. "I wrote it last night."

Lin Xia smiled, her heart swelling with pride. "It feels... hopeful. Like you're starting to see the light again."

Gu Yan looked at her, his expression thoughtful. "Maybe I am," he said. "And I think you're part of the reason why."

Lin Xia felt her cheeks warm at his words. She opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, the door to the studio opened, and a familiar figure stepped in.

It was Miss Su.

Her presence was like a cold breeze, cutting through the warmth of the room. She looked as polished as ever, but there was a hardness in her eyes that made Lin Xia uneasy.

"Gu Yan," Miss Su said, her voice sharp. "We need to talk."

Gu Yan's expression darkened, and he stood up, his posture tense. "I thought I made myself clear," he said, his tone icy. "There's nothing left to say."

Miss Su's gaze flicked to Lin Xia, and her lips curled into a faint sneer. "Is this why you've been avoiding me? Because of her?"

Lin Xia felt a surge of defensiveness, but before she could speak, Gu Yan stepped forward, shielding her from Miss Su's glare. "This has nothing to do with her," he said firmly. "You and I are over. That hasn't changed."

Miss Su's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, it seemed like she might argue. But then she took a step back, her expression softening into something almost pleading. "Gu Yan, please. I made a mistake, but that doesn't mean we can't fix things. We were good together—you know we were."

Gu Yan shook his head, his voice steady but filled with resolve. "We were, but that's in the past. I've moved on, and you need to do the same."

Miss Su stared at him, her face a mixture of anger and hurt. Then, without another word, she turned and walked out, slamming the door behind her.

The room fell silent, the tension lingering in the air. Lin Xia looked at Gu Yan, her heart aching for him. "Are you okay?" she asked softly.

Gu Yan let out a long breath and ran a hand through his hair. "I will be," he said. "It's just... complicated."

Lin Xia nodded, understanding more than she could put into words. She reached out, placing a hand on his arm. "You don't have to face it alone," she said. "Whatever it is, I'm here."

Gu Yan looked at her, his dark eyes filled with a mixture of gratitude and something deeper—something that made Lin Xia's heart skip a beat. "Thank you," he said quietly. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

The moment hung between them, charged with unspoken emotions. Then, as if breaking the spell, Gu Yan turned back to the piano and began to play. This time, the melody was a blend of *Rainy Night* and *A Glimpse of Light*, as if the two pieces were merging into something new—something that spoke of pain and hope, of shadows and light.

Lin Xia listened, her heart swelling with a quiet joy. She knew there would be challenges ahead, but in that moment, she felt certain of one thing: no matter what came next, she and Gu Yan would face it together.
