Chapter 42: The Power of the Axe
I stood in the forest, the sacred axe of Shango still vibrating with power in my hands. The energy emanating from it was intoxicating, and I felt my senses expanding, as if I could see and hear things that were previously invisible and inaudible.
Oya's words echoed in my mind: "You are the chosen one, destined to wield the power of the Orishas." I felt a surge of pride and responsibility, knowing that I had been entrusted with a great gift.
As I stood there, a figure emerged from the trees. It was Eshu, the trickster Orisha. He was grinning from ear to ear, his eyes glinting with mischief.
"Well done, Ade," Eshu said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "You have passed the first test. But don't think that this means you're ready for what's to come."
I felt a shiver run down my spine as Eshu approached me. He was carrying a small, intricately carved box in his hands.
"This is the next test," Eshu said, holding out the box. "Solve the riddle of the box, and you will be one step closer to fulfilling your destiny."
I took the box, feeling a strange energy emanating from it. The box was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand, and it was made of a smooth, dark wood.
As I examined the box, I noticed that it had no visible opening or lock. I turned it over in my hands, searching for a hidden catch or mechanism.
But no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find any way to open the box. I began to feel frustrated and anxious, wondering if I was clever enough to solve the riddle.
Just as I was about to give up, I heard a faint whispering in my ear. It was Oya's voice, guiding me and encouraging me to think creatively.
I closed my eyes, focusing on the energy of the box. And then, in a flash of inspiration, I knew the answer.
I opened my eyes, a smile spreading across my face. "The answer is not to open the box at all," I said confidently.
Eshu's grin faltered for a moment, and then he burst out laughing. "Very good, Ade," he said, clapping me on the back. "You are indeed clever."
I felt a surge of pride and accomplishment, knowing that I had passed the second test. But as I looked at Eshu, I knew that there were still many challenges ahead.
"What's the next test?" I asked, my heart pounding with anticipation.
Eshu's grin returned, and he winked at me. "Ah, the next test is the most challenging of all," he said. "But I think you'll find it...enlightening."
And with that, Eshu vanished, leaving me to wonder what lay ahead.
What do you think? Should I continue?
