Chapter 13 -  Warm in Locker Room

Carl Carter.

Should kissing Enzo have been a mistake, it was one I had no need of correcting.

Now I was not just in the game but in the middle of the storm.

Jake had concluded his performance with decency.

Enzo had migrated in that way.

And personally?

I was caught between fire and vengeance.

The one remaining issue was who would burn first.

Arriving at school the next morning seemed like walking onto a stage on which everyone knew the script except me.

The whisper started the minute I went into the hall.

"Did you sight them last night?"

Present here are Nina and Enzo. Full-on make out session before Jake arrives. Not really. Indeed?"

Looked sincere to me. You should have seen Jake's face." much

I threw them aside.

Since what was I supposed to say?

That had been a period of heat-of- decision making.

Feeling enraged with Jake, I kissed Enzo.

Maybe just maybe I had kissed him because I wanted to.

Not ready to answer such questions?

I thus carried on as normal.

Head high, I passed them behind a mask firmly in place.

But when I round the corner, I ran solidly into Enzo.

Enzo caught me with robust fingers around my wrist before I could travel.

"Wow, Carter," You wonderful?

I pulled back and choked hard. "Wonderful."

His grin deepened. 'That's a liar.'"

I let my gaze stray. "What do you want, Enzo?"

He turned his head to study me. "YOU."

My breathing came to a standstill.

Still, he waved towards the empty hallway behind him before I could respond. Go with me.

I raised an eyebrow. WHERE?!

"Loner room." I blinked and said, "excuse me?"

His grin became stronger. "Princess, calm yourself." That's hollow. "Why would I—?"

"Because you clearly have something to say to me," he remarked, gracefully interrupting. And I would much sooner not have an audience.

She was right.

The whole university was still watching us, much like in a live soap play.

And if I were going to approach him about last night, I wasn't facing him front-on.

I slumped. "Beautiful" Lead, then; then.

The second door closed behind us; the air looked weighty.

The room was vacant, rows of desks and lockers, the air smelling of cedar and sweat.

Enzo opened his arms slanted on the wall. "Go ahead now. Call me out loud.

I frowned. " WHY might I yell at you?"

He pleased himself. "Because you believe me to be the responsible party last night."

I turned around. < Not.

He clearly seemed astonished and lifted an eyebrow. "No?"

I inhaled and ran a hand over my hair. I gave Enzo a kiss. not in the other way.

His snarky demeanour vanished.

And all of a sudden, the air between us lacked only electricity.

It kills.

Quietly, he replied, "You sure about that, Carter?"

I lost my voice at first.

Too much. He was gazing at me as if he wanted to slam me up against those lockers and forget every single rule I had set for myself.

I exhaled sharply. "We ought to set some constraints."

He lifted his head just little. "Bounds?" I agree. "This...something separating us. It is spinning from under control.

Enzo walked gently in front of me. "Out Of control how?"

I drew in a tight breath. "We were supposed to behave false-minded. This ought to have been a game-piece.

He reached forward and slid a hair strand behind my ear.

Then, he replied gently, why did you kiss me first?

I hated how my heart answered it.

How my pulse soared and how my breath stuttered.

I staggered slightly. "That was a step gone wrong."

Enzo laughed, but there was no humour about it.

His voice low, he said, "You keep saying that, Carter." But yours, too? It is offering another story.

My cheeks became black. Enzo—"But I missed the final piece.

With the smashing open locker room door.

The second Jake went inside; the temperature dropped.

His gaze wandered between Enzo and me; his demeanour unfriendly.

I became stiff. "Jake——"

"Locker rooms for players, Carter," he said, voice sharp. Not whatever the devil this is.

Enzo went still.

Not even bothered about Jake's presence.

Instead, he beamed down on me.

"You'll have to choose eventually, princess," he replied gently. Maybe as well do it right now.

I sealed my lips. "I already finished".

At his sides, Jake's hands contracted.

In a whisper, he said "Did you?"

My stomach turned whirl.

Since I lost information.

It had started as a game.

Now, then?

It appeared quite real.

And I knew something terrible as I looked between the two of them—one from my past, one from my present.

Whatever I did or decided—someone was going to lose.

Furthermore perhaps...

Like me.

The silence lasted.

Enzo's Jake

ME."

Three people in a room insufficient for all the unsung words.

And then Jake stepped gently forward just when I felt the moment would pass.

"Tell me," he whispered in hushes. Tell me just precisely just now, Nina. Do you, for me, feel anything?

My mouth paused.

I started to open my mouth.

And before I could respond—Enzo drew me back against him.

a single, firm declaration.

Said she already belongs to me.

And at that same moment?

Knowledgeable.

This transcended me now as well.

War was what we were experiencing.
