Chapter 5 - The Counterattack

The moment Adaora read the blood-stained note, something inside her shifted.

Fear no longer had a place in her heart.

If Chike wanted to play dirty, she would show him that she had inherited more than just her father's name.

She had inherited his will to fight.

A Move Chike Never Expected

Dike wiped blood from his forehead, his face set with determination. "We can't sit and wait for him to strike again."

Adaora nodded. "It's time we take the battle to him."

She brought out her evidence Emeka had given her containing Chike's corrupt dealings.

"We're going public with everything," she said. "Not just the financial fraud. Everything. His illegal offshore accounts, his connections to drug smuggling, even his involvement in election rigging."

Dike whistled low. "That's a death sentence."

Adaora's lips curled into a dark smile. "Not if we do it right."

The Power of the Media

They couldn't just leak the files to the press and hope for the best.

Chike controlled half the media houses in the country. If they weren't careful, the evidence would vanish before the public even saw it.

So Adaora devised a new plan.

Instead of the press, they would go to the people.

They created an anonymous social media account @TheTruthNigeria and began leaking the documents online.

Screenshots of Chike's bank transactions.

Videos of hushed meetings with corrupt politicians.

Testimonies from former employees who had been silenced.

Within hours, the posts went viral.

The people erupted.

Protests started in major cities. Chike's name trended nationwide.

"Chike Nwosu is a thief!"

"Arrest the criminals in power!"

"Justice for the people!"

It was a direct hit to his carefully built reputation.

Chike's Rage

At his mansion, Chike smashed his laptop against the wall.

The headlines screamed his crimes. His phone rang endlessly business partners, politicians, and allies demanding answers.

Gbenga stood stiffly beside him. "Boss, this is bad."

Chike turned to him, eyes burning with fury. "Find Adaora. Tonight."

But before Gbenga could leave, a new call came in.

An unknown number.

Chike hesitated. Then answered. "Who is this?"

Silence. Then a familiar voice.

"You built an empire of lies, Chike. Let's see how well it burns."

His grip tightened around the phone.

Adaora.

Chike's lips curled into a snarl.

"So you think you've won?"

Adaora's voice was calm. "Not yet. But I will."

Then she hung up.

Chike exhaled slowly.

If she wanted war… he would give her war.

Secret from the Past

But as Chike planned his next move, he received an unexpected visitor.

His younger brother, Obinna, walked in, a strange look on his face.

"We need to talk," Obinna said. "It's about Adaora's father."

Chike frowned. "What about him?"

Obinna hesitated, then whispered: "He didn't die the way you think."

Chike stiffened. "Explain."

Obinna took a deep breath. "The night of his death… it wasn't an accident."

Chike's blood ran cold.

Could it be possible that the very foundation of his empire was built on a lie?

The Darkest Truth

Chike stared at his younger brother, Obinna, his mind reeling.

"The night of Adaora's father's death…" Obinna hesitated, then said the words that changed everything.

"It wasn't an accident."

Chike's pulse pounded in his ears. "What are you saying?"

Obinna took a deep breath. "Father ordered the hit."

Silence.

The air between them grew heavy.

Their father. The great Chief Nwosu. The man Chike had spent his whole life proving himself to.

Had ordered the murder of Chief Okafor, Adaora's father.

Chike clenched his fists. "You're lying."

Obinna's voice was low but firm. "I was there that night, Chike. I saw the money transfer. I saw the call to the assassins. It was all arranged."

Chike's stomach twisted. All these years, he thought Okafor's death had been a random armed robbery.

Now he knew.

His family had stolen Adaora's father from her.

And now, she was here to take everything back.

Adaora's Next Strike

Meanwhile, Adaora sat in a dimly lit office, watching the chaos she had created.

Protests were growing. More politicians were cutting ties with Chike. International media outlets were picking up the corruption story.

But she knew it wasn't enough.

Chike was a cockroach.

Even if the world turned against him, he would find a way to survive.

Unless… she gave him something he couldn't escape.

Breaking News Revelation

That night, Adaora went live on social media.

She sat in front of the camera, her face calm but her eyes burning with vengeance.

"My name is Adaora Okafor. The man you call Chief Chike Nwosu is a murderer."

Her words sent shockwaves through the nation.

"He didn't just steal from this country. His family stole my father's life."

She held up a folder filled with evidence.

Transaction records linking the Nwosu family to the hitmen.

A witness statement from an old bodyguard who had been there the night of the murder.

Even a secretly recorded conversation between Chike and a former ally, proving his knowledge of the crime.

BOOM.

The internet exploded.

The news channels picked it up within minutes.

Chike's face was everywhere. His crimes were no longer just corruption.

Now, he was a killer.

Chike's Worst Nightmare

In his mansion, Chike stood frozen, his hands shaking.

Gbenga rushed in. "Boss, the police"

Before he could finish, sirens blared outside.

Chike's mind raced. He had bribed countless officers before. He had made problems disappear.

But this?

This was murder.

This was a direct attack on his name.

This… was war.

And for the first time in his life, Chike felt something foreign creep into his chest.

Fear!
