Chapter 1 - Alert

The buzzing of his cheap Android phone jolted him awake.

For a moment, he just lay there, staring at the ceiling of his cramped one-room apartment. The fan above him creaked like it was about to detach and decapitate him, but honestly? He wouldn't even be mad.

His name was David Adeyemi, 26 years old, unemployed, and running on ₦1000 ($1.20). No stable job. No savings. Just vibes and a slowly dying bank account.

He checked his phone out of habit.

[Bank Balance: ₦1000.52]

He sighed. "God abeg."

The Pain of Broke Life

Today was like every other day—wake up, scroll job listings, send out a few half-hopeful applications, and pray he had enough money to eat. His data subscription had already expired, and he couldn't even afford a renewal.

His rent was overdue. His landlord had already given him a final warning. "Oga David, if I no see my money this week, just find your way commot."

He had exactly three Indomie packets left in the cupboard.

His friends? They weren't much better off. And the few that had money were too busy to pick his calls these days.

David sighed and leaned back on his thin mattress.

"Na like this I go just dey?"

The System Awakens

Then his phone vibrated again—this time with a notification he had never seen before.

Your wealth is now limitless.

David frowned. "Which kain Yahoo Yahoo nonsense be this?"

He clicked on it out of curiosity, expecting some scam app to load. Instead, his banking app automatically opened, and his breath caught in his throat.

[Bank Balance: ₦100,000,000.00]

David's heart stopped.

He sat up so fast his vision blurred. He blinked, rubbed his eyes, checked again.

The zeroes were still there.

"Wait, wait, wait." His voice trembled. "One hundred million? As in... legit??"

His fingers shook as he tapped into the transaction history. No deposits. No transfers. The money had just appeared.

---

The Cautious Test

His first thought? "This has to be a glitch."

His second thought? "If I try to spend it and it disappears, I go just faint."

He took a deep breath, threw on a T-shirt, and rushed to the nearest supermarket. His heart pounded as he picked up a bottle of chilled Coke and a pack of gala.

At the counter, he handed over his ATM card with a cautious look. The cashier swiped.

Transaction Approved.

David didn't even breathe until the receipt printed.

He grabbed the Coke with a death grip and walked out in silence.

The moment he was outside, he exhaled shakily and took the coldest sip of Coke he had ever had in his life.

"Wait… this thing dey real?"

He sprinted to the nearest ATM. Inserted his card. Selected "Balance Inquiry."

[Available Balance: ₦100,000,000.00]

David took a slow step back from the ATM.

Then another.

Then he burst into the loudest, most uncontrollable laughter of his life.

"HA! HAHAHAHA! I don blow!"

An old woman selling groundnuts nearby looked at him in confusion.

But David didn't care. He was rich.

---

He immediately booked the most expensive suite at the Hilton. He didn't even pack his things. What was he packing? His old life? He was done with that.

As he stepped into the air-conditioned luxury of the hotel, one thought hit him:

"This is just the beginning."
