I was nieve. That was my downfall.
"Please we have no where else to go" my next door neighbour's banged on my door as the distant groans of those monsters could be heard. We still had no idea what they were or how to beat them. All I know is that they arrived here one month ago and has already massacred fifty percent of the human population.
"Don't even think about it Evelyn" dad called out to me. I should have listened. God how I wish I listened.
"Dad he's going to die if we leave them out here" I tried to reason with him.
"It's either us or them and we can't afford to spare food for other people. I won't risk you or the twins lives over his" he held my brother and sister close.
"Please!" The man screamed desperately. It was the same voice who used to sing me happy birthday while carrying my triple chocolate cake out. The same man who babysitted me when mom was in labour with the twins. This wasn't a random stranger. He was practically family!
I rushed towards the door "Evelyn!" Dad called out for me but I ignored him, swinging open the door.
Only for him to grab my arm and throw me outside.
"Thank you for volunteering my dear" that friendly smile I was so used to was twisted into something far more sinister.
"Volunteering for what?" I trembled as I stood up on shaky legs "hey let me back inside-" he roughly pushed me back.
"To become our latest sacrifice of course" he grinned "we're in hell on earth right now and the only way to appease demons is to offer them a sacrificial lamb"
"You son of a bitch!" Dad charged at him only to be stopped by a knife to the heart.
"Don't worry" he whispered in his ear "I'll take good care of your children" dad's eyes rolled to the back of his head before collapsing.
"Daddy!" I screamed. I tried to get up but froze at the animalistic growl behind me. I was too scared to move, to even turn around to see the beast behind me.
"Sissy help!" The twins screamed as our not so friendly neighbour threw them over his shoulders.
"Now don't fuzz children" he scolded them lightly "you two are going to help repopulate the earth with me. It's your duty as members of the chosen family"
"Evelyn!"
"Lily, law, please don't look-" I managed to get those words out before the beast clamped his jaws around my neck, ending my life...
