Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: AWAKENING

Once upon a time, the world was full of magic. There are many creatures who live alongside humans. Vampire, werewolves, elves, dwarves and so forth. All of this changed when the mana, the source of magic became thinner and thinner as the magic tree was sealed by the greedy humans.

Many creatures vanished as they were hunted by humans, who, is not by any chance, affected by the change as they only required almost no mana to live. These creatures became a story that is only told to children and is not believed by adults. They become a history, a myth, and their existence became a fairytale.

In a dark room full of medieval furniture, the eyelids of the man sleeping on the bed trembled as he slowly opened them. An unknown force was suddenly released on the surface of the earth, informing all his people of his awakening. The man sat up and clenched his head as he felt an excruciating headache. He heard a knock at the door before it opened and revealed a man wearing a butler suit.

"A pleasant morning, sire. Would you like to have breakfast?" The man nodded before speaking.

"Prepare stockpiles of food, clothing, and all manner of essentials that shall sustain us for many a year to come," the man said hoarsely. "I fear the coming days will bring unrest to the world." Theodore nodded to show that he received the order.

"What century are we now, Theodore?" Ask the man on the bed as he slowly rises up as he recovers from the pain and walks to the table full of appetizing food prepared by the butler.

"It is the 21st century, your grace."

"Goodness! I've been asleep for ages!" the man exclaimed in surprise as he sat down. He began eating to regain his strength, his mind wandering with thoughts.

He remembered falling asleep in the 16th century, but now it was suddenly the 21st. No, that couldn't be right. It was the 17th century when—

"Your Majesty Azrael?" Theodore called, noticing his master had drifted into a daze while eating, his face contorted with pain, as though he were bearing something agonizing.

Azrael snapped back to reality, clutching his head as the throbbing pain returned.

"It's nothing," Azrael said, then added, "The quality of food seems to have improved in the 21st century," as he continued enjoying his meal.

"Theodore! What is this... magical box? In front of me.. Do they not hear me at all?! " Azrael exclaimed in frustration, pointing at the device. His tone lace with frustration as he glared at the "box," which seemed to be silently mocking him with its mysterious glow

After breakfast, he went downstairs to the living room and sat on the seat called sofa. He saw a little thing with tiny buttons and clicked it out of curiosity then the huge box in front of him suddenly lit up. Despite telling it to be quiet, it kept making noise, so he called for Theodore in frustration.

"The thing you're holding is called a remote and the box in front of you is called a television, Your Majesty. It was created in--"

"Shut it off!" Azrael said as he handed the "remote" to the butler, not delaying any further.

"As you command," Theodore said, turning it off before handing Azrael his daily newspaper. He remembered how Azrael had always enjoyed reading it, even in the past. After a long silence and turning pages, Azrael set the paper down.

"Fascinating! We've entered the 'Digital' era, it seems. To think they invented such technology! Humans are truly creative, aren't they? Theodore?" Azrael said with amusement, leaning back on the sofa and crossing his legs as he reflected on the newspaper.

Phones, televisions, and... computers? What were these? There was so much to process in this new world that Azrael almost felt like he had stepped into an entirely different realm. He looked at it with both a feeling of amusement and bewilderment, taking note of how the human world had evolved without him.

"Your Majesty, a message arrived from the Capital. Lord Arian congratulated his majesty for your awakening," Theodore spoke after Azrael finished speaking.

"I see. Is there anything else?" Azrael asked, looking up from his thoughts.

"Yes, Your Majesty. Lord Arian also requests an audience regarding stock preparations. He wishes to discuss the matter with you in person," Theodore added, glancing at the paper Azrael had just discarded.

Azrael nodded in agreement for the meeting. As Theodore bowed and turned to leave, Azrael suddenly exclaimed once again. Theodore quickly stopped and, worried, rushed to him.

"Are you alright, Your Majesty?" he asked, checking for any injuries.

"Indeed! A most brilliant thought has just struck me! Let us make our way to the capital, where I shall meet with Lord Arian. In doing so, I can explore this new era of humanity!" Azrael said excitedly.

"Very well, I shall prepare the luggage," Theodore said with a sigh, a helpless smile tugging at his lips.

Azrael didn't need to be told twice. He immediately started giving orders to the servants with rapid gestures, his voice brimming with urgency. "Quickly now, make haste! I must see the capital, see the modern world!"

He watched his lord, smiling brightly as he gave instructions to the servants, and a sense of relief washed over him.

"Thank goodness." He muttered softly.
