Looking at Alice, Jack saw multicolored mists floating around her. Shortly after the mists floated into her chest and disappeared along with their presence.
"What was that?"
"A skill I have that allows me to regenerate my mana."
"Do you have any combat skills?"
"One, I'll show you."
The colored mists were back but they appeared and formed a blue ball in her hand. Studying it Jack got closer, his curiosity almost got the better of him and tried to touch it but was snapped back by the feeling of danger that it exuded. The ball dispersed into the air and the mist floated into the air disappearing.
"Alright, I'm going to head out and check the building. Are you going to stay here or do you want to come with me?"
"I'll go."
Moving to the door they worked together to move the bed. With the strength increase he found that one finger was enough to hold his end up. He removed the chair from under the door handle and decided to use it as a shield. Before he opened the door he remembered about his unallocated stat points and put both into [Vigor] bringing his health up to 120
Alice stood in the middle of the room just in case a monster was waiting right outside, which didn't happen. Jack only had to check 1 direction because the room was at the end of a hallway. When he scanned he found the bodies still littered the floor, but there wasn't any monsters that he could see.
Waving his hand he signaled for Alice to get behind him. Slowly they moved through the hallway to the main entrance where he had killed the goblin. The body of the goblin had disappeared but its spear still remained.
Grabbing it he checked its status.
[Makeshift Goblin Spear - Strength +2]
Equipping the spear he continued to hold it as it was the best weapon he had access to.
Going room to room on the first floor the duo found nothing but mauled bodies and broken items. Jack was able to collect 2 more spears that had most likely been thrown in the original onslaught.
With his strength stat being over 2 now he felt like he would have a fairly smooth fight with a goblin if he got a rematch. Unfortunately his rematch came sooner than expected as a goblin the was hiding on the top of the stairs to the second floor was leaping from the top. Jack held his spear out and brought the chair up to guard himself.
The goblin used its spear to slide down Jacks spear before using the wood end to slash at Jack. Luckily he was prepared, crouching down to dodge attack which also allowed for Alice to summon her mana ball and launch it at the goblin.
The ball flew to the side and missed, but gave Jack enough time stab the goblins knee causing it to let out a screech before he pulled the blade out with pieces of cartilage and bone. The goblin was on the ground and thrust his spear forward to stab the goblin in the head.
[You killed a Goblin - level 3]
Getting up he brushed off his back and looked at the top of the stairs.
"Are you alright, Alice?"
"Yep, controlling magic is a lot harder than they make in seem in games. I think ill be able to land it next time."
With her confidence it allowed Jack to relax knowing that his back won't get blown off because of a stray attack.
"Do you want to keep heading up?"
"If we are gonna kill a boss need some levels, so lets go."
Alice seemed to almost think of their situation like a game, which Jack couldn't chastise her for, as his thought process was the exact same. He couldn't help but forget that he only has one life and safety is above all else.
"Let's head up, but stick closer just incase and take the goblins spear so you can protect yourself."
Heading up the stairs they were facing directly towards the table that Jack was studying at before everything happened. Just to the left of it was the spot that his professor had died, the spear that pierced him was still laying there.
Slowly walking towards it he picked up the spear and equipped it. Deciding that it would be best not to mention the professor he continued to walk down the hallway to clear it. Opening a lab room the duo found a goblin sleeping in a chair. Slowly they crept in and Jack moved closer to stab it.
Before he could they heard a shriek and saw 3 more goblins run out from behind a divider from the lab and classroom portions.
Alice summoned a mana ball and pierced through one of the goblins. The first one made it to Jack and thrusted at the chair but was hit with the sound of metal on metal as he abandoned his protection and thrust his spear into its head.
[You killed a Goblin - level 3]
Another mana ball was launched across the room and could be heard hitting the tile floor. With its miss the goblins found time to hid behind the divider again. The duo pushed into further into the room and Jack gathered the spear from the goblin he killed.
As they made it into the opposite corner of the room they heard the slaps of flesh on floor as a group of 5 goblins entered the room.
"Shit!"
Jack couldn't help but scream, he made the mistake of thinking about the goblins as unintelligent but he ended up walking right into a trap. Alice through another mana ball out and her exhaustion was visible. Luckily, the killed the goblin and leveled up replenishing her mana. Unfortunately, her mental exhaustion still exists.
Jack couldn't afford to move closer to the goblins because he had to protect Alice. Seven goblins spread throughout the room while the duo was left as sitting ducks in the open.
