Auju studied the book. It contained spells unlike anything he had ever seen.
"Could this really work?" he wondered.
He drew a summoning circle, his hands trembling. As he chanted the incantation—
"O ancient beast of the shadows, heed my call!"
The ground trembled. The wind howled. A dark portal ripped open before him, and from its depths emerged a ghostly dragon.
Its crimson eyes glowed like embers. Its black-and-silver body floated weightlessly in the air.
"Who dares summon me?" the dragon's deep voice echoed.
Auju swallowed his fear and stepped forward. "I am Auju. Will you be my companion?"
The dragon chuckled. "If you can control me, I will be your guardian."
And in that moment, Auju became a Summoner.
