Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 004

Eva Callahan woke up and every muscle in her body hurt as if she had run miles. She curled farther into the warmth around her and a moan from her mouth. Her bed seemed almost like she was sleeping on clouds—softer than anything she had ever felt. It was consoling, even. She sighed softly, and then the memories of last night began falling on her.

Her eyes opened wide. She tried to sit up, then panicked and was stopped by a strong arm snugly around her waist. Her breath paused. Hard swallowing, she looked down at herself. quite naked. Her heart hammered as she turned her head slightly to see the man next to her equally naked. Their surroundings were strange, covered in opulence that cried riches and power.

What have I done?

She clapped a hand over her mouth to silence the gasp trying to escape. Her stomach knotted itself in knots.

I went to sleep among strangers.

Her brain flew. This was not simply any error; it was a massive one. She might have been formally engaged to Ryan Carter, but at least not yet. From early life, they had been pledged to one other. And today this?

Sort things out, Eva.

She inhaled sharply then exhaled slowly. Panic would not help to solve this. She had to leave here before the man next to her came to. She attempted softly to break free from his hold, but the action tightened his arm around her.

The fight made things worse. His body moved behind her, and she sensed it—the indisputable evidence of his arousal rubbing against her. She felt heat crawling up her neck.

Oh dear. No, no, no.

Eva stopped, begging he would remain asleep. But she was not blessed with luck.

From the man next to her, a deep growl rumbled, vibrating against her back. Her pulse shot through the roof. That sounded not at all like usual. It was near animalistic, profound, and possessive. She turned slowly, at last staring clearly at him.

Her breath hung in her throat.

Dark eyes fixed back at her, sharp and forceful, as though they could see directly through her. His face was striking—strong jaw, sharply defined cheekbones, lips that had been all over her last night. At the memory, a wave of heat tore across her.

He turned to smile.

"You wake me."

She drank. "I...I have to leave.

With his fingertips, he followed a gentle route down her spine, his touch sending goosebumps in its wake. She moaned.

She screamed out, attempting to sound authoritative, saying last night was a mistake. "It never will happen once more. Now, I would want to leave if you will kindly let me go.

His smile grew more shallow. " Is that so?"

indeed.

"Hmm.," said He sounded unconvinced.

Eva started to narrow her eyes. "Meaning it is Just let me depart.

And what should I not do?

Her breath came to stop. Her stomach turned in doubt. Then that would make you a creep. And maybe a psycho as well.

He laughed, the sound deep and delightful. "No one has ever called me that before.

"Why? Since you eliminate them before they have a chance? She drew back and folded her arms.

He slanted his head to see her with almost a sense of curiosity. You are not terrified of me.

I should be?

His black eyes sparked with something incomprehensible. Most individuals are indeed.

Eva gasped sharply and shook her head. "Look, I have no idea who you are and I don't want to. We can forget this ever happened just let me go.

He hummed in contemplation. Last night, Angel, you challenged me. And right now you are getting exactly what you requested.

She nodded. "What?"

You started this, he said, voice lazy but firm. And it ends when I say so.

Her jaw closed. "Excuse me?"

Lucas Carter sat up and stretched as though he had endless time. The sheet gathered around his waist, revealing smooth, too-perfect-looking skin and sculpted muscles. Before hanging his legs over the side of the bed, he brushed a hand over his untidy dark hair.

"You should get dressed," he added nonchalantly. "I'll drop you off near your apartment."

Eva gaped at him, her head spinning.

What type of scenario had she landed herself in?

And why the heck was he calling her Angel?
