Chapter 22 -

Chu Tian couldn't explain it to Lin Yuting at that moment, so he just said perfunctorily, "I mean he must have come on a pilgrimage from a very far place. He's really an expert at pilgrimage. Let's go into the main hall and burn incense." With that, he pulled Lin Yuting and walked away in a hurry. But at the corner, he took another look at the devout pilgrim.

In the first main hall, looking at the Buddha statues, Lin Yuting also stopped her usual smiling face and showed an extremely pious expression. She reached out to take the sandalwood incense, but Chu Tian held her hand and said calmly, "Follow me."

Lin Yuting was slightly surprised but then nodded. She believed that Chu Tian must have his reasons for doing so.

Zhao Yuqing looked at Chu Tian with disdain. This guy liked to pretend to be mysterious to show off his so - called taste and attract girls' attention. Unfortunately, he met her, someone who knew a little about Buddhism. She thought he probably couldn't come up with anything new.

A monk sitting in meditation in the hall slightly opened his eyes, seemingly curious about Chu Tian's words.

Chu Tian took out three sticks of sandalwood incense, lit them with fire, gently waved them up and down to extinguish the flames, then held the incense with his thumb and index finger, closed the other three fingers, and raised the incense in both hands to the level of his eyebrows. The tips of the incense were facing the statue in the main hall. He bowed three times, then stepped forward and inserted the incense with his left hand while silently chanting in his heart, "Offer to the Buddha, offer to the Dharma, offer to the Sangha, and offer to all sentient beings." After inserting the incense, he went to the kneeling cushion in the middle of the hall, put his hands together, and bowed to the Buddha three times. Each time he bowed, he softly chanted, "Wholeheartedly bow to the Three Treasures that abide everywhere in the ten directions." Then, when kneeling with his hands together, he made a devout vow, "Vow to save the boundless sentient beings, vow to cut off the endless afflictions, vow to learn the countless Dharma gates, and vow to achieve the supreme Buddha way."

Finally, Chu Tian softly said, "May everything be well."

Lin Yuting watched Chu Tian chanting and didn't mind the many steps. She imitated him in a proper manner. When Lin Yuting finished the last sentence, "May everything be well."

Chu Tian smiled gently and said, "For the last sentence, you can say your own good wishes. You don't have to copy me exactly."

Lin Yuting smiled. "Everything being well already covers all the wishes I want to make. Otherwise, I really don't know how long I'd have to talk."

Zhao Yuqing had already finished burning incense and was standing behind Chu Tian and Lin Yuting. Seeing Chu Tian making so many rules, she was a bit impatient. If the Buddha really had spiritual power, why would there be so many procedures? And if the Buddha didn't have spiritual power, doing so many things wouldn't be heard either. Why bother? Moreover, she suspected that these rules were made up by Chu Tian to deceive Lin Yuting and make himself seem more mysterious. Otherwise, why hadn't she seen them in the Buddhist scriptures?

When Chu Tian finished the last sentence, "May everything be well," the old monk sitting in meditation next to them had fully opened his eyes. Looking at this ordinary - looking young man, he felt an otherworldly temperament faintly exuding from his bones. The old monk felt a favorable impression and wanted to get to know him.

So the old monk walked a few steps forward and stood in front of Chu Tian. He said calmly, "This benefactor is so familiar with the procedures of burning incense and worshiping. It's really rare to see such a person in ten years. I wonder if the benefactor is someone with an affinity for Buddhism?"

Chu Tian looked at the old monk, whose eyes were as calm as a still pond. He knew this was an accomplished monk and didn't dare to be disrespectful. "Master, you're too kind. I only know a little about the superficial aspects of Buddhist etiquette. I can't be called someone with an affinity for Buddhism."

The old monk remained calm. "My Dharma name is Kongjian. Meeting is a kind of fate. If the benefactor has time someday, why not come to my meditation room for a cup of fragrant tea and a chat about Buddhism?"

Chu Tian quickly nodded. "Master Kongjian, you're very kind. I'm Chu Tian. In front of you, I don't dare to talk about Buddhism casually. If there's a chance in the future, I will definitely come to visit you and listen to your teachings."

Master Kongjian smiled slightly and then left. But in his heart, he sighed. This young man is not an ordinary person. Given the right opportunities, he will soar to great heights.

Lin Yuting looked at Chu Tian with an expression of extreme admiration. Even the master took the initiative to befriend Chu Tian. She was speechless. In her heart, she used "amazing" three times in a row to express her excitement.

Zhao Yuqing was also slightly surprised. It seemed that Chu Tian wasn't just pretending. He really seemed to know something about Buddhism. But Zhao Yuqing didn't think too much of it. What was the use of knowing a bit of Buddhist etiquette? He wasn't going to become a monk, and this wasn't something tested in the college entrance examination. It was just an entertainment hobby, and it wouldn't lead to much success.
