Chapter 6 - Running against time

Louis – It was my fault!! We shouldn't have left without the permission or the escort of the sister Marie, I did wrong.

Adam took a deep breath:

Adam – Calm down, it wasn't your fault, you're young, and we're young we act with another head, I want to ask you Louis, that you tell me everything, don't spare me of any details, it doesn't matter that you think that isn't relevant, I decided if it's or not, ok? Only that way you could help me find your girlfriend. I get it that you and Penelope escape from the sister Marie eyes, just explain to me from that moment, ok?

Louis – Yes sir! We were watching the second movie in the drive in already, and Penelope said that she was hungry, so I offered myself to buy something but sister Marie was in a need to go to the toilet and the chemical toilets were near the hotdog cart, so she said that she would get us snacks, soda and candy for us.

Adam – Funny, you guys didn't want popcorn?

Louis – No, well, we didn't even think about that, sister Marie got off her car and soon after that Penelope suggest that we go to the convenience store on the fourth avenue, said that they had better hot dogs and candy, said that she could buy my favorite chocolates. He paused as he felt the crying coming in, but he held on tight because he knew that could save his lover life.

Louis – I didn't wanted to go at first, I thought that we might get into trouble but she insisted and then I said to us to get the car, but she said: "It's alright, it's nearby we could walk to it! We shouldn't leave sister Maria with nothing." I thought it was fair, so we sneak between the cars and go out to the convenience.

Adam took some notes and then ask:

Adam – When you arrive in the convenience store, there was something wrong? Someone strange? With a strange attitude?

Louis – No, just the store owner give us an awkward glance when he noticed who was Penelope, but since she was always a sweet, he felt for her and then went to the back bring something special that she wanted, and then she pull me to the middle of the shelves and kissed me.

He went red as he said that and continue:

Louis – she grab a few thing and then we separated and the store owner yelled something to her and then she went to the machine and then I couldn't see her anymore, inside the store when I noticed that she was gone I felt a chill and went to look for her, I guessed that she was pranking me, and then…

Adam – And then?

Louis – I see her by the store showcase, she was there… Standing still with a cup in hand and I called her out and went to the door but when I get there she was gone.

The tears were rolling off the boy's face now, and again Adam offered him consolation with a tissue, not the handkerchief that he offered the first lady, a paper tissue this time, he had prepared in advance to that day, he had a feeling that a lot of cries was going to happen.

Adam – Louis, tell me why Penelope wanted to go to the convenience store so bad, you guys just want to make out? Because I know it wasn't for the horrible hot dogs of the Turkish there.

Louis smile, a smile from someone that had their soul stolen.

Louis – She wanted her sweet, ice and blue slushie, haha, she love that, and you know there's a brand new machine in the store on the fourth avenue.

Adam – Oh I get it, so that's what's the owner went to grab in the back of the store?

Louis – Yes, he went to grab a key for the machine or something like that, then he went to back again put it back.

Adam – So, he didn't see what happen?

Louis – No, but I call for him, yelled actually when I noticed that she had disappeared, and he was very helpful.

Adam – What happen next?

Louis – I went after sister Marie, but she found me as soon as I think about it, she was angry, then I told her what happen and then she called the first lady.

Louis seems tired, Adam had a lot more questions, but he decided to walk with the boy where the kidnap has been taken place. There wasn't anything there, but the mark of the slushie was still on the floor, you could see that the place have been cleaned, probably the store owner, but that drink impregnated where it drop. The courtyard was simple, there wasn't any cars there, but according to Louis in the day that the kidnap had happen, there was three, that where parking off the reach of the lights, however, the owners where in a nearby party, they had buy drinks in the convenience store, so the owner let them park there. Furthermore, there's only one public telephone, blood red, in the corner of the courtyard, in the blind spot of the glass in front of the store, where the balcony is, I had been examined, so soon the report with the fingerprints will arrive, Adam asked:

Adam – There's a possibility that Penelope tried to call her mother? From that telephone?

He said as he pointed it to Louis.

Louis – No, well, I don't know, but I guess not, she would tell me if she would do that before doing it.

Adam – Ok, you heard some noise of a car leaving, or anything else?

Louis – No, not really, I didn't hear anything… Hold on, I heard a strong noise, those sounds you know, the annoying ones, like dog whistles but for humans…

Adam – It hurt your ears?

Louis – Yes, a lot! But it was because it was cold yesterday, must be it.

Cold and slushie, doesn't make sense.

Adam went to Steve, who was thoughtful and smoking again.

Adam – What's the matter, friend?

Steve – The Matter? The matter is that the mayor is with a missing daughter and hasn't going for the neck of the boyfriend, yet.

Adam – The boy isn't guilty.

Steve – And since when a desperate father thinks about it? There's something wrong there Adam.

Adam – You think the parents that kidnaped her? ? ?

Steve – I don't know anything, but it's a possibility, besides, they're lying for us until now, how could it be?

The convenience store owner was heard, he was a strong man, and very fat, he had a strange way to dress up, and seems to not care much about appearances, but it was a nice guy, he was desolated.
