Chapter 2 - Project Helix

Selene, stood up to the first aid cabinet to deal with the cut on her palm, after she was done, she walked back to the table and then picked up the file.

She opened the file to the first page, what she saw made her drop the file back. On it read 'Project Helix' and there was a photo attached to it, looking at it she was sure it was a zombie, the type she had seen in her previous life at least class 2, she was shocked but then turned the page to continue reading, she was about to continue reading when she noticed something at the corner of her eyes.

The blood on the bowl was rapidly depleting, more like the bracelet was sucking it in, she crouched down watching in fascination as the bracelet took in all the blood in the bowl, that after a while not even a single drop was left.

She picked it up the bracelet and then examined it after examining it she placed it on her wrist, then wore the pendant.

'Okay what happens next' she wondered.

Not a few seconds after, she felt the jade on the bracelet and the pendant heat up before a bright light flashed.

After the light dimmed, she found herself in a new area, one she was unfamiliar with, she was surrounded by trees in both directions, looking around she saw a bridge with a pagoda and then walked towards it.

The atmosphere was calm, and she could feel the sun on her face, and the wind in her hair, she wondered where she was. As she climbed the bridge, she could hear the sound of water rushing by and she suddenly felt the urge to remain here forever but that wasn't possible since she knew instinctively that she must leave as she had things to complete.

As she neared the end of the bridge, she looked up only to see a mansion in gothic style, standing there, she wondered if her mom owned the home because it perfectly fit her mom aesthetic while she more of a sunny person.

She walked towards the door and knocked but nobody answered, so she pushed the door nob, and the door opened, there was nobody inside, but the house was furnished.

On the table, was a diary and besides it was a paper, the content of the paper stated that this was a mini world in the bracelet and if she was in it then that means she was a successor of the jewelry set and she passed the blood test, it also said that time ran differently in there as seven days inside was equal to a day outside.

Since it was a mini world, there was also locked areas that would be further unlocked with the aid of the housekeeper.

"Housekeeper?" she wondered out loud.

She heard shuffling then watched a tiny creature come out of a mini door she didn't notice.

"Hello, I'm Bao, the housekeeper, if you need my assistance just call out housekeeper or bao and I'll assist you," Bao rushed back into his tiny home after it finished saying what needed to be said while blushing it felt like its master was the beautiful human it had served.

Meanwhile, Selene who had caught a glimpse of its face burst out laughing, she felt her housekeeper was too cute, bao who heard its mistress laughing buried his face further into its pillow.

She walked around the mansion; it had eighteen rooms with a walk-in closet and built in bathroom and then ten room without any which she figures would be the guest room. There was a kitchen which as big as her apartment and two living spaces.

She liked this place, which made her wonder if Lilliana was able to access this space because according to the paper, the blood was meant to verify if she was a biological child of her mom and her stepsister was not, she felt she didn't need to worry about it if she could not figure it out.

After looking around, she had to go back to her apartment, but she didn't know how. She called Bao who told her to think about leaving then she would appear back in her previous location, after she bade goodbye to him, she left the bracelet world.

She appeared back in her apartment, looking at the clock she noticed a minute hadn't passed after she left.

She cleaned the area and picked up the bloodied paper tower and trashing them.

She sat back down and read through the file

Project Helix was a human experiment, the humans who participated in the experiment, their consent was taken and the rest whose consent wasn't taken were hardened criminal who the government kept alive for this specific purpose.

The experiment was divided into two parts, the vaccination and then the DNA manipulation, the aim was mainly to create strong humans who were to be the government military personnels and the vaccine was to be to be given to civilians to create strong humans who were capable of protecting themselves when war the country goes to war.

The test subjects with their consent taken were for the vaccination experiment while the DNA manipulation was for the hardened criminals.

So, to cut the story short, Project Helix was a failure but not all of it, the vaccination part was a success albeit it had a bit too much success as the vaccine gave not only additional strength, but it also awakens power users. Project Helix was carried out two years after she was given birth to and lasted for nine years, when she calculated the timeline, that was the year the project ended was the year her mom divorced her dad, this made her think she was part of the researchers who partook in the project.

She turned the paper to the next page and what she saw further confirmed her suspicion, her mom was part of the researchers and why she put in the file in the box was because the project was continued at the time she fell sick, she being unwell was unable to stop it which gave the researchers and the government in charge more freedom to proceed with the experiment, she felt it might go wrong so she put the file in there for safety procedures.

Selene wondered how she'll get her hands on the vaccine, she wasn't sure yet, but she'll figure it out.

Once she was done reading the file she noticed it was 12 pm so she decided to have lunch first before continuing, she walked into the kitchen to cook something for herself but only ended up burning it.

Cough cough.

Selene came out a smoking kitchen, she walked towards the fridge and took out fruits cut them and put them on a plate to eat. She would have ordered out, but she wasn't in the mood to switch on her phone as of yet.
