Chapter 1 - Slaughter in Sloth

"Pity me" A boy thought as he was sat down on a cold stone block, the seating area of a below-average school in a town too mundane to name, yes, pitiable, but this was not what the boy was too be pitied for, he thought,

"A meaningless remark, a little snicker and then I will never be remembered again"

"He's eating by himself again" A passerby says as they.. pass him by, a meaningless remark to be sure, pity him but not only for his being alone, but also because he didn't have anything to eat! Alone, hungry, and a detached thought, yes! The remark had meaning now.. it had went into his raving little head, raving now that he was hungry, alone and hungry.

I should've ate something, but it's pointless now, I can still walk probably- probably I say but I'm sat down, it really is unfair that I'm sat despite my ability to walk, it's akin to punishment maybe, or probably, I can't remember nor can you- or i, it doesn't matter

The boy thought and talked and said and bought, he was raving still you see, but now he had reached that level of madness, not a real madness of course but that madness one finds when extremely out of their depth, like in hunger for example.

The boy stepped down a step of that familiar cold block, and fell, down two more steps, a thud on his head was enough to end it.

...?

So arose he, a foolish, fooly- fool.

Opening, the eyes of a dead person saw for the first time something out of their lived life, yes, the white skies of Hell, the boy, confused and well.. dead as he was felt a sudden change of atmosphere, he was still lying on that cold block but it was different, an angry wind was rushing past the boy as he laid there, no thought to report unfortunately, he wasn't dead- well, he is dead but not unthinking oblivon death, he just had a lot on his mind.

Getting up the boy looked around him, standing next to that block of stone, though with none of that which had connected it with that previous familiarity, simply, he was in a field of blue grass, and while that is something to be pondered about our fool boy over here is quite confused, and while he talks to himself, half in thought and the other physically, a creepy thing of bones rose up from infront of him and ran away.

Quickly and somewhat annoyingly- that is, for the poor thing of bones, which is now recognized as a skeleton- the boy ran and grabbed it by its very boney collar and it stopped in its path.

"Ah.. and I thought I had finally got something as well.." said a voice coming from the skeleton "Fine, fine!" It spoke again, the second 'fine' coming out with a vigor of annoyance, though it might be weird to use that word on an animate piece of calcium, phosphorus and other chemicals I couldn't remember right now.

"You can have it back, just do it quick- looking into a depthless gets weird"

As this was heard, the boy realized, a small amount of intellect returning to him in that instant, he was, infact, without shape- an annoying thing to describe, thought this boy, though there was no need to describe it, but he had formed habit of describing things and talking to himself, a need formed quite sadly.

"Eh? Can't speak can you.. ah, nay nay, your fresh" said the pompous skeleton, in a similarly pompous tone. "Hah.. it doesn't sit quite right to just leave you here to rot though" added the skull to the mishapened flowing liquid mosh, a perfect description well done! Why- it's genuinely quite great... I'm amazing aren't I, thought this mangled 'i'

"Quiet huh? I don't mind that, can't mind much in this place but I don't mind-" the mindless sack of minerals continued "Alright, ill help you out a bit, your lucky it was the sloth layer that you arrived at, well, lucky to some extent- luckier to meet me infact!, though you don't seem like a person that needs fortunes gaze- fun thing to say eh? Fortunes gaze.. don't get annoyed if I talk for a bit aight? This shadow hasn't had a solid body for a while.. literally! Haha!"

Redundant bastard, thought the boy, personality now coming back to him, being a being of no shape wasn't great, it has its merits of course, you can see- everywhere, not literally of course but it was a new experience, why, it's almost refreshing.

"Alright alright, you should have your ability to speak back soon, just arrived huh? Next time die with something important, I was gonna say, to think a new face to this here lonely field of blue would bring a block of stone as their parting gift- makes sense I guess, quite rare though, i'd imagine you would be down there in gloom if you died like that, could you imagine, rivals even me!"

The boy had nothing to think, for he could now say! Lovely gift lovely day.. and now a deluge of thoughts spread into the material world! Hooray!

"Gg-g-ii-vve itt b-baakhh"

"Yeah yeah"

And so the pompous skeleton lost its shape, and mine returned, truly a blessed day! The shapeless gets shaped, the thoughtless now thought of!

"Alright, ill explain a bit, move with me here" Said a voice coming from the hearth as a small path formed amongst the blades of blue grass.

"Gh- Ghi- Ging..err" mumbled the boy, as he followed the path, speaking felt as if it an entirely new thing, imagine running through a field of strawberry jelly, basically nothing like that, actually the boy had got used to it now.

"Ginger? Odd thing to say for your first time"

Added the path of grass.

"Sorry, I just felt like it" spoke boyathustra, cheap reference, but yes, he spoke.

"Thief, where am I exactly?"

"Woah" said the path, stopping suddenly

"I'm much better then the thieves in here bud, have some respect" the boy thought little of this, and went along the direction the path had stopped at, quickly the shadow followed him. "Okay- wait, listen to me..

Your in Hell now, I don't care why or how, it just happens" shouted the shadow, waiting for a reply but not getting anything back, it continued "Your in the sloth layer, following gloom, pride whatever- doesn't matter, me? Heh.. I'm from greed, why? Don't remember, don't care, it's been a while" the shadow stopped, leaving a small patch of grass open, if it could put its hand on its head to show drama, it would, for the boy and it had reached stop some small blue hill, and from its yonder there was a giant bird, too be specific, a thing of wings with legs and a cool face.

I should be questioning more, but it's strange, it's as if a weight has been lifted, like I was an ant under a cup of glass and the glass shattered, there is a better analogy out there, but I'm tired, strangely, weirdly tired, it's not as if I'm afraid though-

"Why'd you stop?" Ill ask, it seems friendly enough for a thief, and I need a guide, why? I don't know I just need something.. something to hold onto yes- merely an anchor, im floating, I'm floating right now

"Ssshh.. Oh- unfortunate, your luck runs out fast down here, ill meet you back there" said the shadow.

Why? Why now, I'm free right now, so why must I go back? It's not like there's anything to do right, it's a bird, a free bird, like me! A closing, homing, rushing bird.. Ahh..

The boy raved, sense hadn't come back to him yet, he was far gone and so he was reduced to this blubbering buffoon, to continue, as his very deeply hidden conscience, the bird-looking thing rushed towards him, in flight of course, with a hideous screech the air parted infront of it and it soared towards the boy. The path of spread grass left as if in a hurry, with as much personality a path of grass can have, the boy, despite all his apathy, ran as well, backwards, so as to not follow the grass, the product of a level headed conscience.

It'll kill me- so I'll die again, I don't mind, I haven't felt this good in a while, so I'll die again, it wasn't much, perhaps i could've done a bit more though- ahh.. who cares, it doesn't matter, I'll just accept it like i always have

Thought again the boy, the bird came down in a whirl, in with an insane speed, tore straight the partially formed person like a bolt of lightning, bits of shape flew apart as the animal rose up towards the sky now a fair distance away from its slaughter, tearing the air apart as it flew back to sender.

With eyelids to open, the white sky formed again, as a boy woke up from a dreary sleep next to a familiar block of cold, if only it was a dream, the shape laid there and merely stared into the sky.
