Chereads / Bound to the Ruthless CEO / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

My long hair exploded due to the strong gust of wind. I released my luggage to fix my hair before walking into the building. The security guard checked my bag, but I couldn't be at ease due to the jobs waiting for me inside.

"Here's your ID, miss. Are you here for the job fair?" the guard asked.

"Yes."

"Oh no! Why are you here just now? They might have run out of jobs by now?"

I paled at the guard's words. He might be right. I observed people leaving happily, probably having secured jobs.

"Oh my God! We're officemates!" exclaimed a girl in a mini skirt and corporate attire.

"Yes! I can't believe this! This is my dream job," echoed the girl in corporate attire.

I swallowed hard and looked towards the door where the job fair was taking place. I could see each cubicle where interviews were happening.

I felt out of place in this setting. I assessed myself. Perhaps the job meant for me is a janitorial position? I didn't know, but for now, I didn't care. As long as I could have a decent job, it would be fine.

I pushed the door and entered. It was somewhat noisy, and people were formal. I approached a woman distributing papers to applicants.

"Are there still clerical jobs available?" I asked.

She hardly looked at me. "None left, miss."

"Janitorial position?" I asked, swallowing hard.

She turned to look at me, tilting her head, and scrutinizing me. "What's your name?"

I gulped at her sudden question. "Cassidy Miles."

The woman enjoyed the moment and quickly called the guy in long sleeves with a funny black ribbon.

"Mike!" she exclaimed.

I glanced at Mike. I saw him stop and stare at my chest. I quickly covered whatever he was looking at on my chest. Instead of feeling embarrassed, he lifted his gaze with a chilling look. Isn't there a hiring for maintenance?

"Mr. Mike, here is Miss Cassidy Miles. Accompany her to the maintenance department and see where she can be placed there."

"Sure, ma'am," Mike said.

Yes, I knew I didn't belong to this job fair. I glanced at every woman being interviewed. Perhaps janitors don't need interviews. As long as you're willing to work, clean bathrooms, and whatever else, you're healthy, and you have no issues, that should be enough.

I was taken aback when Mike stopped inside the maintenance office we entered. I saw only lockers and no one inside.

"Is this the maintenance office?" I asked, being observed by Mike. I looked at him, and I could see where his eyes were. They were fixed on my chest. He was sweating profusely, and I saw sweat on his forehead as he licked his lips.

"Sir Mike, is this it?" I interrupted what he was doing.

He took a step closer to me. Knowing such moves, I knew what was coming. So, even before anything happened, I kicked the most sensitive part of his body, causing him to scream in pain and bend over.

I bit my lip and pushed the heavy door. I entered the large hall where the job fair was taking place. My tears fell because of the thought that I had nowhere to go today. This is it. I guess tomorrow is just another hell day.

I'll find a place to stay. Whatever I did and why I'm receiving these punishments, I don't know anymore.

I ran quickly, catching the attention of almost everyone in the entire hall. The security guard stopped me.

"Sir, please let me out!" I pleaded while hugging my luggage.

"Why are you running? What's your problem? Did you steal something?" the guard asked.

"Mike!" the girl who called Mike earlier shouted.

"No, I didn't!" I replied to the guard. Some guards arrived to surround me. I glanced at the door where Mike was coming out.

"Why are you running like that?" another security guard yelled at me while pointing a baton at my bag.

I shook my head while pointing at Mike.

"What's happening here?" asked a cold voice.

A voice that made the commotion of guards silent because of what happened to me. I heard the laughter of the men behind him. I saw the smile on the face of the man in front of me. I bit my lower lip.

"Mr. Van der Bilt, sorry for the chaos," said the girl who called Mike earlier.

He nodded in front of me and scrutinized me. His expression was dark, but you couldn't deny that he was too handsome to stand in front of me. Authority radiated from him. His face was clean, and the only thing darkening it was his furrowed brow.

"What's happening here, Mike?" the man asked.

"I kicked him because he was staring at my chest. I closed my eyes after saying that. I will be the one to answer. Instead of being mistaken for a thief, I will admit what I did. I'm not ashamed of it.

The laughter of the men behind him became louder. A smile also appeared on the face of the man in front of me. I bit my lip, trying to contain my sudden drop of jaw.

"Is that so?" He asked playfully before looking at Mike. He whispered something to the security guard and glanced behind me before turning his attention back to me. "I heard you want to be a janitress, Miss Cassidy Miles?" He raised an eyebrow.

I looked at the security guards accompanying Mike. My chest thumped. Is this it? Am I going to be exchanged for that Mike?

"Yes!" I smiled in response.

He smirked as if finding my reaction amusing. "I'm sorry. There's no hiring now," he said and threw my hard-earned resume into the trash.

My eyes widened at his words. "Logan!" shouted a man with long hair.

"Don't talk to me, Alex," Mr. Van der Bilt said firmly as he walked away from me.

One man laughed while the man with long hair looked at me.

The security guards surrounding me left. I kneeled in front of the trash bin. I opened it and started searching for my resume. He's evil. So evil. He could have just given my resume back to me. Why throw it in the trash?

I pushed my hair aside, realizing the truth that I still had no job and a place to stay until now. It was already four in the afternoon, and darkness would soon fall. It seemed my fear of sleeping in the plaza might come true.
