*Ding*
The sound of a bell rang in his mind once again.
Luke focused his spirit on the transparent screen that was floating in front of his eyes.
"The new version of the system has been successfully downloaded."
Third time's the charm, they say. Perhaps the situation Luke was in could be described this way.
The third version of the system had been downloaded, but Luke didn't feel as excited as the first two times, the reason being simple: this damn system always finds ways to fail. Like that popular game that consists of making a wish but always giving an inherent disadvantage.
It could be said that the system he obtained was far from being foolproof.
Luke sighed.
Another life. This would be the third.
He looked at the new name of the system and the introduction.
"Full life, love and offspring system": This system has been custom-configured, so that the host can live a full and carefree life, full of true love and legitimate offspring.
As he read this introduction, memories of his past lives began to come back to him, and a feeling of disgust washed over him. Luckily, this feeling was fleeting and he quickly sealed away all those bad memories. It was best not to think about it too much.
How to describe Luke's life up to that point? Miserable would be the most accurate description. He grew up in an orphanage after being abandoned by his parents, then at the age of 15 he died in a tragic accident . And that was the beginning of his reincarnations.
The first time he was reincarnated, Luke was really happy, he had the chance to start over and he also had a system! What more could he ask for?
However, things did not go well. His first reincarnation passed without pain or glory, he lived until he was 70 years old and finally died completely alone.
He was then reincarnated again and the system moved on to its second version. This time he lived a much happier life, full of love and achievements. At least until the moment of his death, when he found out he was sterile, but he already had 5 children!
There is no need to clarify what is obvious. Luke died at the hands of an enemy he didn't even know he had, completely bitter and disappointed.
And now, he was reincarnated once again, and the system has been updated to a higher version. But the excitement of having a new opportunity was overshadowed by the experiences of previous failures, and by the certainty that the system is not infallible and at any moment it can fail tremendously, leading him to absolute misery.
Luke sighed.
It is important to maintain a positive attitude, at least there is still the opportunity to start over.
He sat up somewhat dizzy. It was nighttime but there was good visibility thanks to the two moons that crossed the sky. That's right, this world was not his original world, since the first time he was reincarnated, Luke was in this world. Perhaps the system could only be activated here, he once speculated.
His first reincarnation was in the form of a baby; it was a true "new beginning." He lived and grew up in this world, slowly turning from a foreigner into a true native.
His second life on the other hand began when he was 5 years old. His spirit took possession of the body of a young child who died due to a curse that had been imposed on him. The time in which he lived his second life was, however, 100 years before the time he lived during his first reincarnation.
Now, the familiar sky indicated that he was still in the same world, but the time and identity he had now remained a mystery.
"Status" He uttered softly, and then a transparent screen with new information appeared in front of his eyes.
-Name: Luke Liryksen
- Occupation: Homeless, globetrotter.
- Age: 15 years old (134)
- Health: 5
- Build: 6
- Strength: 4
- Agility: 4
- Spirit: ??
- Luck: ??
- Skills: ??
- Talents: ??
-??
Luke looked at the information on the screen and couldn't help but sigh again.
The system is the same as always, he thought. He had just started and his life was already crap.
The basic attributes of a normal person should be around 10, so it's easy to induce the condition of the new body he was reincarnated in. Simply garbage.
"Stay optimistic" he repeated in his mind again, as if trying to hypnotize himself.
"Well, it's a slightly worse start than last time, but at the end of the day we have to keep moving forward. As long as there is a will there will be a solution to any problem!
The first thing I must do is find a safe place, I don't know where I am, but being outdoors in this world full of magical beasts is not advisable. Even less so with my current physical condition."
Luke began to walk, slowly crossing the forest he found himself in. His whole body felt heavy, and every time he took a step a sharp pain spread from the soles of his feet to his temples.
*Ding*
*New quest available*
The system screen appeared again. Luke used his thoughts to interact with the system.
Quest 01: You are lost and alone in the world, look for a nearby human settlement to spend the night and avoid danger.
Reward: Increase in basic attributes. Experience pack: Survival (basic)
"Well, at least the quest system that was added in version 2 of the system is still working. This quest is pretty good, the experience pack is a good reward and the attributes are just like rain in the desert!"
Luke continued to go through the forest looking for people. There was no need for him to actively accept the quest. The system usually gives quests at opportune times to help him, and he can do them right away or not. Usually the system gives these quests as a way of helping him or to fulfill his wishes. For example, after dying alone in his first reincarnation, Luke was eager to find love, so the system issued many missions that helped him find the love of his life.
Suddenly, he began to hear distant noises. They seemed to be voices. Screams.
Luke hesitated for a moment but finally decided to head in the direction from which the voices came. We must face the future with courage!
The screams were getting closer and closer, accompanied now by a threatening roar and the sound of metal and projectiles crossing space at high speed.
In a clearing, a hundred meters ahead of him, a group of people were facing a giant and ferocious beast, a kind of tiger, but with pseudo scale armor, and with shining white wings.
The beast was already on the verge of death, and was putting up its last resistance in desperation.
Luke stood petrified, looking at the scene unfolding before him, not because of surprise, but because the life force that the individuals and the beast used to fight, oppressed him like an ant. If he had the level of power of his previous life, he could destroy half the forest along with all the creatures in it with a single movement of his hand. But now, with his new body after reincarnating, the energy released by these people endangered his fragile existence.
Finally, after a few minutes the beast fell, giving a final cry full of reluctance, its head full of magic arrows looking like a cactus.
When the battle ended, Luke felt the pressure around him disappear and fell to his knees panting. During the time that the battle lasted, he even had trouble breathing.
The group of individuals, after killing the beast, noticed Luke's insignificant existence, and approached with curiosity. However, upon seeing him up close, their expressions changed drastically and they immediately unsheathed their bows, loaded their arrows imbued with elemental magic, aiming mercilessly at poor Luke, who was still struggling to breathe.
Luke was on his knees looking at the ground and taking deep breaths, so he couldn't see the whole sequence that was unfolding around him.
He felt, however, that people had approached him and were standing there without saying anything. The clacking of shoes was heard in front of him, a person was approaching, and slowly arrived in front of him.
Luke raised his head, already somewhat recovered from the spiritual shock he had suffered. And as he raised his head, the scene in front of him made his pupils contract.
A group of "Lunaris" surrounded him, pointing their magic bows at him, and right in front of him, an incredibly beautiful Lunari was watching him with her arms crossed and her gaze alert.
"How can there be Lunari in this forest? They never leave their sacred forest… Perhaps the forest I am in…" Luke thought, totally surprised.
"Human! What are you doing in our territory? Do humans only know how to break the treaty? Or are you so desperate to end your own life?"
The beautiful Lunari in front of him exclaimed in an icy tone of voice, indicating that if he did not give her a satisfactory answer, he would never be able to answer again any other question .
"Damn system!! How am I going to find a human settlement in the sacred forest of the Lunaris!! It is definitely another bug of this system!!" Luke howled internally.
