Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Invitation

The commotion caused by the Devil's Island incident was significant.

Fortunately, the new Bridge diverted public attention, and various forces worked in unison to suppress public opinion.

The impact of the incident remained within a controllable range.

Magneto and Ian each demonstrated extraordinary strength.

As long as they weren't antisocial personalities, major forces wouldn't actively provoke them.

Ian didn't care about the public opinion.

After sending his harvest back, he came to X School alone.

The events of last night had made the atmosphere at X School tense.

Storm had decent abilities, otherwise the professor wouldn't have chosen her as his successor.

But she was still young, and her way of handling matters was far from as shrewd and mature as the professor's.

Especially when faced with such a major incident, Storm seemed a bit at a loss.

Ian wanted to meet the professor, so he came to X School by the way—after all, he had promised the professor to help look after the school.

"You only need to manage the school, uphold the professor's philosophy, and avoid getting involved in unnecessary matters. Then no one will make things difficult for you!" Ian advised Storm.

As soon as the professor's philosophy was mentioned, Storm's expression immediately became firm: "I will adhere to the professor's philosophy, and the school will uphold his teaching ideals!"

The professor may not have been great at teaching students, but the atmosphere at X School was excellent, and the internal unity and friendship were strong.

Even though the professor had "passed away" and there had been the major incident last night, the school remained very stable internally.

What Storm and the others worried about was whether the external turmoil would affect the school's survival.

Without Professor X to shield them from the storm, they lacked some confidence.

Ian's arrival undoubtedly reassured Storm.

Although Storm didn't know Ian well, she believed the professor wouldn't have misjudged him.

After leaving X School, Ian arrived at a small estate about ten kilometers away.

When Ian reached the door, he noticed that the gate had already been opened, and Professor X was waiting for him in a wheelchair.

It wasn't surprising that the professor knew Ian was coming—after all, Ian had gone straight from X School to here, and hadn't hidden his whereabouts along the way.

"Professor, your legs?" Ian asked, slightly surprised.

"My mind is too powerful; this ordinary body can't handle it!" Professor X replied frankly.

There was no sign of frustration on his face—he had obviously accepted this reality.

Compared to life itself, the cost of paralysis was minimal!

And over the past few decades, he had gotten used to being paralyzed.

"Are you not planning to return to X School? They really need you now," Ian asked again.

"Storm and the others have grown up; they no longer need to shelter under my wings.

And I am already a 'dead man.' It's not appropriate for me to appear again!" Professor X replied.

As a telepath, Professor X understood human nature too well and was all too aware of the temptation of resurrection!

X-Gene was uncontrollable, and the randomness of its awakening was too strong, so true major powers wouldn't force it.

But "resurrection" was different—even the slightest hope could make anyone or any force go crazy for it!

If the confirmed 'dead' Professor X were to reappear at X School, the school would never have peace again!

"Professor, are you really willing to give up your ideals?" Ian asked.

"I used to believe that my ideals were correct, but Jean made me realize that I was wrong—and terribly wrong!" Professor X said, his expression somewhat despondent.

Professor X was such a proud person—being able to admit his mistakes showed just how much Jean's actions had shaken him!

But this state wasn't good for the professor; after all, the stronger the X ability, the more powerful the will required.

So Ian decided to enlighten him:

Professor, would you like to know where you went wrong?"

"I was too arrogant! Always thinking I could control everything..." Professor X answered.

"No! Arrogance isn't the fundamental mistake!" Ian denied the professor's answer.

Then, without further beating around the bush, Ian gave his answer directly:

"Professor, your way of thinking is completely that of a mutant, but you always try to integrate into the lives of normal humans! The internal contradiction of your thinking is the root of all mistakes!"

Ian's words struck like a bell, instantly awakening the confusion in the professor's heart. All past doubts and misunderstandings found their answers!

Suddenly the professor closed his eyes and Ian felt that the professor's mental fluctuations had become calmer and more stable.

Although a mutant like Professor X wouldn't gain more strength From this stability, it would elevate his mind, so he no longer needed to worry about his X abilities going out of control.

Ian didn't disturb the professor and left a vial of medicine and a note before leaving the estate.

Then, guided by his clairvoyance, Ian found Magneto at a park in Los Angeles, where his abilities had not yet recovered.

In front of Magneto was a chessboard, with classic ivory and metal chess pieces.

"Care for a game?" Ian sat down directly across from Magneto.

Magneto looked up at Ian and then lowered his head, staring at the metal chess pieces. He said nothing.

"I just went to see Professor X!" Ian spoke first.

"Charles!" Magneto said calmly, without surprise or shock.

Ian was somewhat surprised by Magneto's reaction. "Aren't you surprised?"

"Charles wouldn't die so easily!" Magneto said with certainty.

No wonder they were lifelong foes—Magneto knew Professor X so well.

"The professor has come to his senses, just now!" Ian changed the subject.

"How did you do it?" Magneto finally showed an expression of surprise, and it was no ordinary surprise.

"Why does it have to be me? Couldn't the professor have woken up on his own?" Ian asked in return.

"I know Charles well. If he could have woken up on his own, he would have done so long ago. It's impossible for him to wait until now!" Magneto said.

"Alright! It was indeed me! I told him that his way of thinking was completely that of a mutant, but he kept trying to integrate into the lives of ordinary humans!"

At this point, Ian paused, looked into Magneto's eyes, and asked, "Erik, what about you?"

"Me?" Magneto seemed a little moved, but still not enough.

Indeed, lifelong companions—Magneto was just as stubborn as Professor X!

And without experiencing as many setbacks as Professor X, Magneto was even more stubborn than him now.

"You and the professor are exactly the opposite. You think mutants are superior and want to fight for the rightful place of mutants, but...

Your way of thinking and methods are still completely human!" Ian said bluntly.

"I..." Magneto felt something was wrong but couldn't find a rebuttal.

"You lost! General!"

Unknowingly, Ian had already won the game.

Magneto didn't care about the outcome of the game, still thinking about Ian's words.

"This vial of self-healing medicine can make your body healthier.

Also, if you have time, feel free to visit the Carnegie Mutant Academy!"

Before leaving, Ian left a vial of medicine, just like the one he had left for Professor X.

And he extended the same invitation for Magneto to visit the Carnegie Mutant Academy.

Actions speak louder than words!
