Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Giant Problem

Leonel stood frozen, staring up at the colossal Invalid looming before him. It was like a nightmare come to life—twenty feet of twisted limbs, glowing eyes, and a mouth that looked like it could swallow him whole.

"Okay, Leonel," he muttered to himself, "you've faced worse. You've fought a Sentinel, for crying out loud. You can handle this."

The giant Invalid let out a low growl, its six eyes narrowing as it focused on him. Leonel felt a chill run down his spine.

"Or maybe I can just run away," he suggested, glancing over his shoulder.

Aina's voice crackled through the communicator. "Leonel, don't even think about it! You can't just run from every fight!"

Leonel raised an eyebrow. "I mean, I could. It's a solid strategy."

"Stop being a coward and use your powers!" Aina urged.

Leonel sighed. "Fine! But if I die, I'm haunting you for the rest of your life."

"Deal."

The giant Invalid charged, its massive claws slicing through the air. Leonel barely had time to react.

"Okay, okay! Dimensional Shift!" he shouted, vanishing just as the claw came crashing down where he had been standing.

He reappeared a few feet away, heart racing. "Phew! That was close."

But the Invalid wasn't done. It turned, its eyes glowing brighter as it prepared for another attack.

"Seriously? You're still coming after me?" Leonel exclaimed, exasperated. "Can't a guy catch a break?"

He quickly raised his hands, focusing on the space around the creature. "Let's see how you like this!"

With a flick of his wrist, he attempted to fold the space around the Invalid, but it didn't budge.

"Uh-oh," he muttered. "That's not good."

The Invalid lunged again, and Leonel barely managed to teleport out of the way. He reappeared behind it, panting.

"Okay, Leonel. Think! You can't just keep dodging forever. You need a plan."

Aina's voice came through again. "Leonel! You need to disrupt its core! Aim for the glowing spots on its body!"

Leonel squinted at the creature. "You mean the entire thing is glowing? That's not helpful!"

"Just do it!" Aina shouted.

"Fine! I'll just—"

Before he could finish, the Invalid swung its massive tail, sending him flying across the field. He crashed into the ground, rolling to a stop.

"Ow," he groaned, trying to catch his breath. "I think I just broke my spine."

"Get up!" Aina urged. "You can't let it get the upper hand!"

Leonel pushed himself up, wincing. "You know, I'm starting to think this whole 'hero' thing isn't for me."

The Invalid roared, shaking the ground beneath him. Leonel's heart raced as he scrambled to his feet.

"Okay, okay! Time to get serious!" he shouted, raising his hands again. "Dimensional Shift!"

He focused, feeling the energy pulse through him. This time, he aimed for the Invalid's core, the glowing spots Aina had mentioned.

With a surge of determination, he teleported directly in front of the creature, right at its chest.

"Here goes nothing!" he yelled, thrusting his hands forward.

The space around the Invalid warped, and for a moment, it looked like the creature was about to implode. But then—

Nothing happened.

Leonel blinked. "Uh… what?"

The Invalid paused, its glowing eyes narrowing at him.

"Uh-oh," Leonel said, realizing he might have just made it angry.

The creature let out a deafening roar, and Leonel instinctively teleported again, narrowly avoiding a blast of energy that erupted from the Invalid's core.

"Okay, new plan!" he shouted, scrambling to regain his footing. "How about I just throw rocks at it?"

He glanced around, spotting a few boulders scattered across the field. With a flick of his wrist, he sent one flying at the Invalid.

The rock hit the creature square in the face.

"Ha! Take that!" Leonel cheered, feeling a surge of confidence.

But the Invalid didn't seem fazed. It merely shook its head, letting out a low growl.

"Okay, maybe that wasn't the best idea," Leonel muttered, backing away slowly.

Aina's voice crackled through the communicator again. "Leonel! Focus! You need to disrupt its core! You can do this!"

Leonel took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart. "Right. Disrupt the core. Got it."

He glanced back at the Invalid, which was now charging at him again.

"Okay, Leonel. You've got this. Just aim for the glowing spots. You can do it!"

As the creature lunged, Leonel raised his hands, focusing all his energy.

"Dimensional Shift!" he shouted, teleporting directly into the Invalid's path.

This time, he aimed for the core, feeling the energy surge through him.

The space around the Invalid warped, and with a loud crack, the creature's core shattered, sending a shockwave through the air.

Leonel stumbled back, panting. "Did I do it?"

The Invalid let out a final, agonized roar before collapsing to the ground, its body disintegrating into a cloud of dark energy.

Leonel blinked, staring at the spot where the creature had been. "I… I did it!"

Aina's voice came through, filled with excitement. "You did! That was amazing, Leonel!"

Leonel grinned, pumping his fist in the air. "I'm a hero! I'm a cosmic anomaly! I'm—"

But before he could finish, he felt a sudden shift in the air.

"Oh no," he muttered, glancing around. "What now?"

From the shadows, more Invalids began to emerge, their forms twisting and writhing as they poured into the clearing. Leonel's heart sank.

"Seriously? More of them?" he exclaimed, throwing his hands up in frustration. "Can't a guy catch a break?"

Aina's voice crackled through the communicator again. "Leonel! We need to regroup! Get to higher ground!"

Leonel glanced around, spotting a nearby hill. "Right! Higher ground! Got it!"

He sprinted toward the hill, dodging the incoming Invalids as they lunged at him. "Why can't they just take a day off? It's like they have a schedule or something!"

As he reached the top of the hill, he turned to face the oncoming horde. "Okay, Leonel. Time to show them what you've got!"

He raised his hands, focusing on the space around him. "Dimensional Shift!"

With a surge of energy, he teleported again, this time appearing right in the middle of the group of Invalids.

"Surprise!" he shouted, throwing his hands out wide.

The Invalids paused, momentarily confused.

"Now, let's see how you like this!" Leonel yelled, attempting to fold the space around them.

But instead of warping them away, he accidentally sent one of the Invalids flying into another, causing them to crash into each other.

"Oops," he muttered, scratching the back of his head. "That wasn't the plan."

The remaining Invalids seemed to take offense to his antics, their glowing eyes narrowing as they charged at him.

"Okay, okay! New plan!" Leonel shouted, scrambling back up the hill. "How about I just throw more rocks?"

He quickly grabbed a few boulders and hurled them at the Invalids, each one hitting its mark with a satisfying thud.

"Take that! And that! And that!" he cheered, feeling a rush of adrenaline.

But the Invalids were relentless, and they continued to advance.

"Why won't you just stay down?" Leonel yelled, exasperated. "I'm trying to help you here!"

Aina's voice came through again, sounding slightly panicked. "Leonel! You need to focus! Use your powers to create a barrier or something!"

Leonel blinked. "A barrier? I can do that?"

"Yes! Just concentrate!" Aina urged.

Leonel took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. "Okay, okay. I can do this."

He raised his hands, feeling the energy pulse through him. "Dimensional Shift!"

This time, he focused on creating a barrier of warped space around him, a shimmering wall that would protect him from the oncoming Invalids.

The air crackled as the barrier formed, and Leonel felt a surge of power.

"Ha! Take that!" he shouted, watching as the first Invalid slammed into the barrier and bounced off, dazed.

"Yes! It worked!" he cheered, feeling a rush of confidence.

But then, he noticed something.

The barrier was starting to flicker.

"Uh-oh," he muttered, glancing at the horde of Invalids. "That's not good."

The Invalids regrouped, their eyes glowing brighter as they prepared for another charge.

"Okay, Leonel. You can do this," he whispered to himself. "Just hold it together."

As the Invalids charged, Leonel focused all his energy on the barrier, willing it to hold.

"Come on, come on!" he urged, sweat beading on his forehead.

The first Invalid slammed into the barrier, and for a moment, it held strong. But then, another Invalid joined the charge, and the barrier flickered again.

"NO! Stay up!" Leonel shouted, gritting his teeth.

The Invalids continued to press against the barrier, and Leonel felt the strain building.

"Come on! You can do this!" he yelled, pushing himself to the limit.

But just as he thought he might succeed, the barrier shattered, sending him tumbling backward.

"AHHH!" he screamed, landing hard on the ground.

The Invalids surged forward, and Leonel scrambled to his feet, heart racing.

"Okay, okay! Time to run!" he shouted, sprinting back toward the hill.

Aina's voice crackled through the communicator again. "Leonel! Get to safety! I'm on my way!"

Leonel glanced back, seeing the horde of Invalids closing in. "I'm trying! But they're really persistent!"

Just as he reached the top of the hill, he felt a sudden rush of energy.

"Wait… what's happening?" he muttered, glancing around.

The air shimmered, and he felt a strange connection to the space around him.

"Leonel! Focus!" Aina urged. "You can do this!"

With a surge of determination, Leonel raised his hands again, feeling the energy pulse through him. "Dimensional Shift!" he shouted, channeling all his focus into the space around him.

This time, he felt the power surge within him, stronger than before. The air crackled as he concentrated, and suddenly, the ground beneath the Invalids began to warp.

"Let's see how you like this!" he yelled, and with a flick of his wrist, he created a massive rift in the ground, causing the Invalids to stumble and fall into the swirling void.

"YES! I did it!" Leonel cheered, watching as the creatures were sucked into the rift, their roars fading into the distance.

But just as he was about to celebrate, he felt a familiar presence behind him.

"Leonel! What did you do?" Aina exclaimed, appearing beside him, her eyes wide with surprise.

"I… I think I just saved us!" he said, grinning from ear to ear.

Aina shook her head, a mix of disbelief and admiration on her face. "You just created a dimensional rift. That's… impressive."

Leonel puffed out his chest. "I know, right? I'm basically a superhero now."

Aina rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smile. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We still have to get out of here."

Leonel nodded, still riding the high of his victory. "Right! Let's find a way back to Xun."

As they made their way through the clearing, Leonel couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. He had faced down a giant Invalid, created a rift, and lived to tell the tale.

"Hey, Aina," he said, glancing over at her. "Do you think I could get a cape? I feel like every superhero needs a cape."

Aina chuckled. "A cape? Really? You think that would make you look more heroic?"

"Absolutely!" Leonel replied, grinning. "I'd be like a cosmic anomaly with style!"

Aina shook her head, laughing. "You're impossible."

Leonel puffed out his chest again. "And proud of it!"

But just as they were about to leave the clearing, a low rumble echoed through the air.

Leonel froze. "What now?"

Aina's expression turned serious. "We need to move. That sound isn't good."

Leonel nodded, his heart racing again. "Right! Let's get out of here before something else shows up."

As they hurried away, Leonel couldn't shake the feeling that their adventure was far from over.

"Hey, Aina," he said, glancing back at her. "Do you think we'll ever get a break?"

Aina smirked. "With our luck? Not a chance."

Leonel sighed dramatically. "Great. Just what I wanted to hear."

But as they continued on their journey, Leonel felt a spark of hope. He had faced down monsters, discovered his powers, and even made a friend along the way.

And maybe, just maybe, he could handle whatever came next.

"Let's go save the world," he said, determination in his voice.

Aina smiled, her eyes shining with confidence. "Together."

And with that, they set off into the unknown, ready to face whatever challenges awaited them in the chaotic world of the Fourth Dimension.
