Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: I've got a whaaatttttt?

I collapsed onto my bed, my thoughts spinning as I replayed the events of the past two hours. Sigh I never thought getting a boyfriend would be this easy. I mean, seriously, it feels almost unreal. Where's the flirting? Where's the excitement? Where's the...

Ring Ring Ring

Groaning in frustration, I grabbed my phone from the bedside table. "WHAT?" I snapped into the receiver, my patience already stretched thin.

"Honey, what's wrong? You're coming on, well, pretty strong today," my mom asked, her voice a mix of concern and mild amusement.

"'Strong, really, Mom? Is that the best you can come up with?" I retorted sarcastically.

"Well, it's the best I can manage without being, you know, too harsh," she replied. I could almost hear her shrugging on the other end of the line.

I stood up, rubbing my temples in an attempt to ward off the headache creeping in. "I'm having a major crisis, Mom. I don't think you being 'harsh' really matters right now."

"What's going on, honey? You're not usually this... agitated."

"What's going on?" I repeated, my voice rising in frustration. "I have a boyfriend now."

There was a sharp intake of breath on the other end. "Gasp Well, congratulations, dear! That's a huge milestone, especially for a girl. Now you can go on dates and—"

"No, Mom, listen—just no," I cut her off, my voice tinged with exasperation. "This isn't good. It's bad. Really bad."

"I don't understand. Isn't this what you've always wanted? It's what you've been writing in your diary, after all."

"I know, I know, it's just too easy it's fake, do you understand what I'm...." I paused as I processed what my mom just said.

".... wait, My diary?" I felt a rush of heat flood my face. "You've been reading my diary? MOM, THAT'S AN INVASION OF PRIVACY!"

"Well, I don't think it counts as invasion when you're always talking about it, especially during movie nights with your friends. Remember?" she replied, sounding a bit too casual for my liking.

"So you eavesdrop on us now? That's not cool, Mom." I took a deep breath, trying to rein in my frustration. I was dangerously close to screaming at her for the sheer audacity she has.

"It's not eavesdropping when you're the one shouting about how romantic everything is and how you need to write it down in your diary," she chuckled.

"Great," I muttered under my breath, feeling the weight of all the things I'd apparently been too loud about. "That's not the point. The point is... he's too easy. I mean, I know I asked him first, but don't guys usually play hard to get?" I asked, genuinely confused. This was how it was supposed to go—at least, that's how it always played out in the movies.

"Everyone's different, Charlie. Some people play hard to get, some don't. It doesn't make it any more or less—"

I cut her off before she could finish, overwhelmed by the frustration that had been building. I threw my phone onto the bed and collapsed onto the pillow, screaming into it in a fit of anger.

Ping the sound of my phone cut me off.

I hesitated for a moment before reaching for my phone again, already dreading what might be there. A message from Damon *my soon-to-be ex-boyfriend* lit up the screen.

Message from Damon:

Hey

3:13 PM

 Ugghhhhhh how annoying.
