Chapter 2 - The Midnight Meeting

2.The Midnight Meeting

John couldn't shake off the feeling that Arin's words had left him with.

He spent the rest of the evening pacing in his small apartment, his mind racing with possibilities.

As the clock struck midnight, John made his way to the old windmill on the outskirts of town.

The windmill loomed above him, its sails creaking in the gentle breeze.

Arin was already there, her hood up and her eyes gleaming in the moonlight.

"You came," she said, her voice low and husky.

John nodded, his heart pounding in his chest.

"What do you know about the Tome?"

Arin smiled, revealing pointed teeth.

"I know where it is," she said, her eyes glinting with amusement.

"But I'll only tell you if you agree to help me."

John's instincts screamed at him to run, but his curiosity kept him rooted. "What do you need help with?"

Arin's smile grew wider.

"I need help stealing the Tome," she said, her voice dripping with mischief.

John's eyes widened in shock.

"You want me to help you steal the Tome?"

Arin nodded, her eyes glinting with amusement.

"Yes,"

she said.

"Will you help me?"

John hesitated, unsure of what to do. Stealing the Tome was a serious crime, but he was also desperate to uncover its secrets.

"What's in it for me?" John asked, trying to sound calm.

Arin's smile grew wider.

"If we succeed, I'll give you the Tome," she said.

"You can study it, learn from it, and use its secrets to further your own goals."

John's eyes narrowed.

"What's the catch?"

Arin's expression turned serious.

"The catch is that we're not the only ones after the Tome," she said.

"There are others who will stop at nothing to get it, and we'll have to be careful to stay one step ahead of them."

John thought for a moment, weighing the risks and benefits.

He had always been driven by a desire to uncover the truth, and the Tome seemed to hold the key to unlocking many secrets.

"Okay," John said finally. "I'm in."

Arin's face lit up with a fierce grin.

"Excellent," she said.

"Let's get to work."

As they began to make their way back to the town, John couldn't shake the feeling that he had just made a deal with a devil.
