The "zombie suit" consists of two sets. It is a unique invention by Huang Jin, made by stitching together various zombie skins. The suit includes pants, a jacket, a head cover, foot covers, and gloves.
Due to the strong odor of zombies, the skins used to create the suit actually help mask human scent. It can even confuse zombies into thinking the wearer is one of their own, as long as they don't get too close or have the scent of blood. Normally, it provides a good level of safety.
This is the primary reason Huang Jin has had such a high success rate scavenging.
Additionally, if a zombie suit has been worn for too long and its odor fades, Huang Jin maintains it. In simple terms, he applies zombie fluids on the surface to keep it active.
Huang Jin quickly put on the zombie suit. Although Zhang Lei felt uneasy, he forced himself to wear it, suppressing his disgust.
During this, Huang Jin noticed the wound on Zhang Lei's face and said, "By the way, make sure to cover your wound. You don't want the skin to touch it; otherwise, it could get infected."
"Then, what about my head?" Zhang Lei asked.
"Here, use that," Huang Jin pointed to a roll of duct tape in the corner.
Zhang Lei nodded, took the tape, and wrapped it around his head, covering most of his scalp. He then put on the head cover.
And so, the two of them, dressed as zombies, set off toward their destination.
"Be careful when walking. Don't tear up my zombie suit," Huang Jin warned, his concern for the suit evident.
Zhang Lei could only give a wry smile, walking carefully to keep from damaging the suit.
On their way, they encountered quite a few zombies. But as long as they kept their distance and avoided making loud noises, the zombies paid no attention to them.
Huang Jin was already accustomed to this situation, but it was Zhang Lei's first experience.
Being able to stroll through a zombie-infested area without fear was something Zhang Lei never imagined possible.
After walking for over half an hour, they finally reached the entrance of the supermarket.
As expected, there was an old, rusted tricycle parked in front. The tricycle was loaded with food—bread, compressed biscuits, and the like.
Not far from the tricycle, Bai Jiu spotted a few footprints and a single broken shoe, along with a pool of blood on the ground and scattered bloodstains around.
If he wasn't mistaken, the shoe belonged to the tricycle's owner. This person was likely trying to escape with supplies but had been surrounded by zombies and had to abandon the vehicle. While fleeing, the person was swarmed and devoured by zombies. The bloodstains were evidence of the chaotic feeding frenzy.
As the saying goes, "The trees planted by previous generations provide shade for later generations."
The supplies on the tricycle had definitely become Huang Jin's gain. But now the problem was that there were still a number of zombies around the tricycle—about ten or so. They needed to draw them away before they could get to the supplies.
Huang Jin picked up an iron rod from the ground and handed it to Zhang Lei.
Zhang Lei took it and nervously looked at the zombies. "Should we fight them?"
"Fight them? I'm not sick, go, run a little farther, make some noise, and lead these zombies away."
"Oh, okay, got it!"
Zhang Lei nodded in understanding, running about ten meters away, frantically hitting the ground with the iron rod.
This immediately drew the attention of the zombies. They turned around, but upon seeing another "zombie" acting erratically, they completely ignored him.
"Can you find a place where they can't see you?" Huang Jin yelled.
Zhang Lei quickly rushed into a nearby alley and continued banging the rod, successfully drawing the zombies away.
Most of the zombies staggered after the sound, moving like they were on drugs. But two of them didn't follow the noise, instead continuing to wander in place, likely aware that the noise was coming from a fellow "zombie."
Seeing this, Huang Jin had no choice but to slowly approach them. With a swift strike of his axe, he killed the closer one.
In front of the tricycle, Huang Jin began checking the supplies. There was bread, compressed biscuits, and a few bags of rice. These supplies would be enough for him to survive for two months.
It was truly a good haul.
The only advantage of the zombie outbreak was the massive decrease in the human population. This allowed such a large stash of food to remain untouched for days. If it were in the peaceful days, someone would have snatched it up long ago.
The tricycle was parked in front of an abandoned supermarket, and it was clear that the food came from inside the store. Huang Jin, with a bit of hope, entered the supermarket, hoping to find more supplies.
But inside, the situation was far worse than he had imagined.
There were some food items on the shelves, but most were either gnawed to pieces or had completely spoiled.
It was obvious that the entire supermarket had been raided by rats and other animals.
Huang Jin searched the store for nearly half an hour, but all he found was a few bottles of expensive liquor.
Though Huang Jin wasn't fond of alcohol, the scum at the shelter loved it, so it wasn't a completely wasted trip.
Huang Jin walked out of the supermarket, carrying a few bottles of liquor, and placed them on the tricycle.
The supermarket was devoid of food, confirming that the tricycle contained the last of the store's supplies.
Some unlucky soul had spent a great deal of time and effort collecting the remaining food from the supermarket. But just as they were about to leave, zombies caught up to them, and in the end, Huang Jin reaped the rewards.
"Really stupid!" Huang Jin mocked, wondering just how unlucky one person could be.
But then he remembered his own home being robbed.
Gradually, the mocking expression faded from his face...
At the same time, he couldn't help but glance around, wondering where his good-natured class monitor, Zhang Lei, had gone. Why hadn't he come back yet?
Could he have died?
Confused, Huang Jin moved toward the direction where Zhang Lei had run off.
