The buzzing sound was deafening. A dull, stabbing pain shot through his body. He opened his eyes with difficulty, his vision blurred. He was sitting in a metal chair, his body rigid, his head pounding like a war drum. He remembered nothing.
Absolutely nothing. All around him, chaos reigned. Dozens of figures were moving frantically, shouting orders in a language that was familiar to him, but incomprehensible. They were men and women, almost clothed, with weapons that looked like something out of a nightmare. A spaceship, rocked by violent explosions, was visible through a broken window. "What...what's going on?" he muttered, his voice hoarse and strange.
A burly man, a scar running across his cheek, turned to him, eyes full of panic. "Captain! The Federation fleet is upon us!" Federation. The word echoed in her mind, awakening no memory. Captain... he was the captain?
He looked around, trying to comprehend. The men and women around him seemed to be fleeing, fear reflected in their faces. They were pirates...he knew it somehow, though the information was not in his memory. Space pirates fleeing from the police - why?
A soft, almost imperceptible vibration began in his left arm. A screen materialized on his forearm, glowing with a blue light. A message appeared: Select your assistant avatar.
Without understanding, he pressed the "Continue" button. The screen went dark. And then, he saw it.
A man, or rather, a figure, materialized in front of him. It was invisible to the rest of the crew, but he could see it with perfect clarity. A being with sharp, glowing lines, with an ethereal appearance.
"Hello, Master," the figure said, its voice echoing in the captain's mind.
The captain, still not remembering anything, frowned. "Master? Who are you?"
"I am your assistant. You may also call me servant," the figure replied. "Assistant? Servant?" the captain repeated, confusion taking hold of him. "What's going on?"
"Hmm... from what I see, you're in the middle of a pursuit by the Federation space police," the adjutant said, his voice serene and analytical.
The captain's eyes widened in surprise. "Why are they chasing us, and what is the Federation?"
The aide paused. "Well... you seem to have stolen me from where I was created."
