Chapter 1 - INTRODUCTION

I. The Story's Premise:-

The world is not what it seems. The cycle of life and death, once an unshakable law, is now fractured. The dead return—not as mindless husks, nor as spirits seeking vengeance, but as something else entirely. They walk the lands with memories that don't align, trapped between who they were and who they are told to be.

The gods have vanished. The heavens are silent. But something—or someone—has taken their place. And the whispers of the unburied grow louder each passing day.

II. The Two Major Characters:-

Aedric Dray – The Lost Twin

A man without certainty, yet haunted by truths he cannot remember. Aedric has always known himself to be the only survivor of his family, his twin brother long dead. But when he comes face to face with someone wearing his brother's face, claiming he is the original, his world begins to collapse.

Determined yet distrustful, Aedric seeks answers in a world that no longer makes sense. His hands remember how to fight, his mind recalls places he has never been, and when he looks in the mirror... sometimes, he isn't sure the reflection is his own.

Elias Dray – The Failed Savior

Older, colder, and burdened with a truth he cannot undo, Elias Dray has already tried to break the cycle—and failed. He carries the weight of memories he never wanted, of a world that will not let go. Harsh on the outside, yet deeply protective of Aedric, Elias walks a fine line between a mentor and a man who has already accepted defeat.

He knows something Aedric doesn't. And he intends to keep it that way.

III. Where Are We?

The story begins in Ravengarde, an ancient city resting on the ruins of something far older. Once a thriving capital, now it is a place of whispers and half-forgotten echoes, where the dead have begun to return in secret. Cloaked figures roam the streets, graves are never truly sealed, and the bells in the abandoned cathedral ring without wind.

It is here that Aedric awakens, drawn into a mystery that will shatter his perception of reality.

IV. What Time is This?

This is the Godless Age—an era after the gods have abandoned the world. The people do not pray, for no one answers. The sun sets the same way it always has, but there is an emptiness in the air, a quiet, lingering unease.

Wars are fought not for faith, but for control of what little is left. The rulers of the land have turned to ancient rites and forbidden knowledge to bend death to their will. But the dead do not return as they were. They come back different.

V. The Core Theme

The world is a lie.

What if everything the living believe—the cycle of birth and death, the passage of time, the very fabric of existence—is just an illusion meant to keep them distracted? What if the dead were never truly gone? What if it was the living who were never real to begin with?

The dead do not rest. And Aedric Dray is about to learn why!
