Elara and Kael walked cautiously through the newly discovered corridor that stretched in front of them. The walls were covered with ancient runes that glowed in a faint, reddish light. A pressing heat was in the air, which became more intense with each step.
"Do you feel that?" Kael asked, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"Yes, it feels like we're approaching a source of great heat." Elara paused and took a closer look at the runes. "These symbols... they warn of an examination."
"What kind of test?"
"I'm not sure, but we should be prepared."
They continued their way until the corridor opened to a wide cave. In the middle was a wide stream of lava that ran through the room and formed a glowing bridge that led to a platform in the middle. On this platform stood a pedestal with a luminous crystal.
"It must be," murmured Elara.
"And how are we supposed to get over there?" Kael looked at the glowing bridge skeptically.
"It's a test of fire," Elara said thoughtfully. "Maybe we need to prove our courage."
She carefully stepped onto the bridge, feeling the heat under her feet, but the surface seemed to be firm. Kael followed her hesitantly.
Suddenly, a gigantic fire figure rose from the lava flow, her eyes glowing with anger.
"Who dares to enter my domain?" The creature thundered.
"We are looking for knowledge and balance," Elara replied courageously.
"Only those who control the fire within them are allowed to pass," replied the figure.
Elara closed her eyes and focused on the heat inside her, trying to control them and bring them into harmony. Slowly she opened her eyes and took a step forward.
She looked at the fire figure for a moment, then nodded appreciatively and dissolved.
"You passed the exam."
Elara and Kael reached the platform and took the glowing crystal. A sense of fulfillment flowed through them, as if they had taken another step on their journey.
