Cain's last breath was a bitter one. The cold steel of the assassin's blade plunged deep into his chest, and as he gasped for air, his vision blurred, his life slipping through his fingers like sand. Betrayed by the people he trusted the very ones he had fought to protect he found himself alone in the bitter silence of death. The world seemed to fade into a dark abyss, and he welcomed it, knowing he would never get to see the ones he loved again.
But death didn't come easily. Cain felt himself slipping, falling into a strange, vast void. The agony that had plagued him in his final moments lingered like a phantom. He thought of revenge, his fingers twitching as if reaching for something anything to take him back.
And then he heard a voice.
So you seek vengeance, don't you?
Cains's bloodshot eyes flickered open, though there was no light around him. He couldn't see anything, yet he felt an overwhelming presence pressing down on him. He tried to move, but his body was paralyzed, his limbs frozen in place.
"Who are you?" Cain croaked, his throat dry and raw.
The voice was cold, yet oddly familiar. It echoed, twisting around his thoughts.
"I am the one who has seen countless souls like yours. Betrayed. Abandoned. Hungry for revenge. You are but another lost soul in this endless abyss."
Cain's breath hitched. What do you want? He growled, his fists clenched. He had nothing left to lose. If this voice wanted to toy with him, it would regret it.
The voice responded, almost with amusement.
What I want, Cain Ravenshade, is simple. I want to offer you a deal. A chance to right the wrongs done to you. A chance to return to the world you once knew. To take back what was stolen from you.
Cain's heart pounded. The offer was tempting, but he knew better than to trust a voice in the void. But his need for vengeance was greater than his caution. The pain of betrayal still throbbed in his chest.
"What's the price?"
"Your soul", of course," the voice whispered. "You will be reborn as something greater, more powerful than you could ever imagine. With a system to guide you, you will become a force that you can resist. A force that will reshape the very world."
Cain hesitated for only a moment before he spoke. "I accept."
Cain's eyes snapped open. His chest heaved, and his lungs burned, as if he had been underwater for an eternity. But the air around him felt different, thick and heavy with a presence that wasn't there before. He looked around and found himself not in a cold, empty void, but on the edge of a dark forest. The trees towered above him, their twisted limbs stretching like claws into the inky night sky.
This wasn't the world he had known "No it was something darker.
The voice he had heard before came again, no longer distant, but loud and clear inside his mind.
"Welcome back, Cain. You have been given a second chance."
The world around him shifted, and Cain felt an overwhelming surge of power. His body was different" stronger, faster. He could feel it in every fiber of his being. But there was something else, something he couldn't quite a place, something unfamiliar.
A translucent screen appeared before him, glowing with strange symbols and numbers.
Seek Revenge on Those Who Wronged You. Rewards: Power, Wealth, Knowledge.
Warning: The path of vengeance is not without its consequences.
Cain's lips curled into a dark grin. "So this is the system?"
"It is," the voice replied, its tone growing more solemn. "A gift from me. A tool to help you carry out your mission. But be warned, Cain this power is not without its price. The more you use it, the more you risk losing yourself."
Cain ignored the warning. He had nothing to lose. All he cared about now was exacting the revenge he had dreamed of for so long.
With a snap of his fingers, the world around him changed. The forest dissolved, replaced by a crumbling kingdom in the distance a kingdom he had once called home. The Kingdom of Aetheris
