Chapter 8 - Go to Su's house for engagement

The crowd around them immediately exploded in surprise.

It was one thing for Su Wan Yue to remain silent, but once she spoke, her voice was incredibly sweet and melodious.

Many people were confused—who was this unkempt, disheveled guy standing before them? Why was Su Wan Yue, from the prestigious Su family, here to personally pick him up with such a grand entourage?

"I swear, this guy looks familiar. I've seen him around here a lot."

"He lives here, in this neighborhood!"

"Let's go, quick! Let's find out where he lives. If we miss this chance, we'll never get another one!"

Looking at Li Hao's face, he looked like he'd swallowed something sour.

He had heard from Zhang Qian about the events at Renai Hospital, but he didn't expect this—wasn't Chen Tian just lucky to have cured Old Su?

Why would the Su family go through so much trouble to pick him up?

In that instant, the woman sitting beside him in the passenger seat suddenly felt insignificant.

It was as if she was just the leftovers that Chen Tian had discarded, and now Li Hao was even more jealous.

At this point, Zhang Qian was already covering her mouth in shock, stunned beyond belief.

Everything she had just said had been slapped back into her face!

She had misunderstood! Was it really Chen Tian who cured Old Su?

She had thought Chen Tian was simply lucky, but why was the Su family going all out like this?

Her heart filled with bitterness, and she was left dumbfounded.

Why did Chen Tian, of all people, choose to study Chinese medicine, with low pay and poor job prospects? He spent all his time following old doctors around, being treated like a servant by them. Even the highly respected doctors wouldn't give him the time of day. Compared to surgeons, his salary was pitiful, which is why he had to rent a place in such a remote area.

But now, here he was, being picked up by a beautiful and wealthy celebrity from such a famous family?

Zhang Qian's mind replayed every little detail of Chen Tian's kindness toward her, and for a brief moment, she felt like she had missed out on something, her heart aching with regret.

At that moment, Su Wan Yue noticed Chen Tian standing frozen and said helplessly, "Are you coming or not? No, you must come."

With that, she grabbed his arm and pulled him into her luxury business car.

"You see that? Su Wan Yue just grabbed his hand!"

"My God, this is unbelievable!"

"This guy, he's so lucky!"

The convoy drove off, with its powerful engine reverberating as it turned to leave.

The narrow streets remained buzzing long after the cars had gone.

Inside the car, Chen Tian sat with a sullen expression, not even glancing at Su Wan Yue.

Su Wan Yue had originally intended to warn him not to get any ideas about her, since they came from completely different worlds. But seeing his attitude, she said nothing. After all, he hadn't even looked at her once—he was a completely different person compared to the day before.

If it weren't for her grandfather's insistence on her bringing him here, she wouldn't have been so worried.

The ride was silent, and before long, they arrived at the massive Su family mansion in the luxury district.

Su Wan Yue got out of the car and saw her grandfather waiting at the door. She quickly walked up to him and said, "Grandpa, I brought him here. It's not my business now, I'll head back to the company."

"Hey, Wan Yue, you can't leave! Your grandpa has been in the hospital for so long; it's such a rare happy occasion, how can you leave now?" Su Lao sighed.

Su Wan Yue looked at Chen Tian, who had just gotten out of the car, and frowned. She fell silent, trying to avoid him.

Of course, she didn't want to be seen with him; otherwise, who knew how many rumors would start?

The Su family had gathered for the banquet, and no one dared to miss it. They had all arrived early. But Chen Tian's late arrival was enough to make everyone feel disgusted with him.

Su Yun Ping stood in a corner, glancing at Su Qing Guo and saying, "Dad, Grandpa's health may be better, but his mind doesn't seem to be all there."

"Humph, I think so too." Su Qing Guo had nowhere to vent his frustration.

"Look at this kid, if he had any special qualities, I might have tolerated him, but he's wearing a t-shirt with the print all worn out. He looks so poor and shabby. How embarrassing."

"Who knows what's going on with your grandfather? This is all too strange!" Su Qing Guo muttered under his breath.

The entire Su family could be kept in line by Su Lao's presence, but everyone's eyes were already silently putting pressure on Chen Tian, practically grinding him into the dirt.

"Ha ha, young friend Chen Tian, I was able to come back from the hospital and sit here enjoying the fresh air thanks to you. Thank you!"

"Come, old man raises his cup to you! It's been so long since I've breathed fresh air. This feeling is so good."

"You know, when we're young, we're not afraid of death. We charge forward, fearless. But when we're old and death is closer, we start to fear it. Being able to breathe a few breaths of fresh air is such a delightful thing."

Chen Tian quickly raised his glass, putting his heartbreak aside, and politely said, "Old Su, you're too kind. I'm flattered."

"Ha ha, young friend, no need to be so formal! Let's have a drink!"

Old Su was incredibly warm and kept inviting Chen Tian to drink.

Chen Tian didn't dare to refuse and kept raising his cup.

Just as Old Su was enjoying himself, a voice suddenly came from the door:

"Hahaha, Old Su has recovered and come out of the hospital. Congratulations! The Wu family specially came to congratulate you and has brought some gifts to celebrate your recovery!"

As he spoke, over twenty people quickly entered.

One of the men, who looked like a butler, loudly announced:

"The Wu family comes to congratulate, bringing a token of our appreciation. The gifts are as follows!"

"A pair of jade bangles, symbolizing good things coming in pairs, worth five million."

"A car, symbolizing a bright future, worth twenty million."

"A villa, for a peaceful life, worth fifty million."

"Ten ginseng plants, and eighteen other rare medicinal herbs. We wish Old Su a long life, like the East Sea, and health like the South Mountain."

Everyone in the Su family was shocked.

To be honest, the gifts were too extravagant, and even the Su family found it hard to bear.

At this moment, Su Qing Guo excitedly walked up to the head of the group, shaking his hand and saying with a smile:

"Mr. Wu, Master Wu, your visit is an honor. We didn't expect you to come!"

The Wu family and the Su family were once close allies, with both families starting in real estate and property development, but their paths diverged due to their expanding businesses, becoming rivals.

In recent years, the Wu family had grown much stronger, and the Su family had become a shadow of its former self.

"Mr. Wu, Master Wu, the banquet has just started. Please, take a seat." Su Qing Guo courteously invited them to sit.

However, Su Wan Yue, seeing this, clenched her jaw in anger.

Clearly, she was not at all happy to see them, having dealt with these two many times since becoming the president of the Su Group.

Mr. Wu's name was Wu Zheng Xiong, and his son, Master Wu, was named Wu Shao Jie.

Mr. Wu immediately walked up to Old Su, offering warm greetings:

"Old Su, how do you feel? You should rest more after just recovering."

Old Su's wrinkled face was full of smiles as he stroked his beard and said:

"Mr. Wu, such an extravagant gift, we can't accept it. You must be after something else, right?"

Wu Zheng Xiong froze for a moment and then laughed heartily:

"You're right, we came for something else, indeed. We want to take this opportunity to ask for your blessing, so that Shao Jie and Wan Yue can marry as soon as possible."

"The Wu and Su families can unite through marriage, and together we'll dominate Jiangzhou, no one will be able to match us."

Hearing this, Su Wan Yue couldn't take it anymore and stepped forward, her voice filled with anger:

"I said no, I don't agree!"

"......"
