Chapter 2 - Ashes of Morning Star

A month after creation—Lucifer, the most favored, beautiful, and brightest angel—wandered through the skies of Earth. As he soared above the Garden of Eden, his eyes caught the tallest tree—Agta. Amazed by its beauty, Lucifer decided to land upon its highest branch, his eyes couldn't believe the beauty and perfection of God's creation.

It was almost time for the Sun to take a rest beyond the horizon—as the golden hour bathed the Garden of Eden, Lucifer decided to stay a little longer—enjoying the soft breeze of the wind while letting the warmth of the fading sunlight wash over him.

His gaze fell downward where he saw the humans—Adam and Eve—taking their rest peacefully with each other under the tree where he was staying.

Lucifer simply observed them as a whole, fascinated by their simplicity and innocence; truly they came from the image of God.

But then, out of nowhere, an unbidden thought crept into his mind: "Why?"

He was stunned after an uninvited word came into his mind. Lucifer stands up and tries to smack his head with his palm as if he were trying to shake that word from him.

Suddenly, his eyes started to blur—as if like there was a system trying to corrupt his mind—trying to take control of his being.

In desperation, Lucifer tries to shout and call his Father's name for he starts to feel an unimaginable pain. But not even the finest whisper can be heard from him.

With all the remaining strength he had, Lucifer spread his wings and soared towards the sky to seek help. He cuts through the clouds of the Earth, but with each beat—he begins to feel his body growing heavier. Little by little he feels like something is trying to drag him down, despite his suffering he remains calm and believes that he will reach the gates of Heaven.

All hope was lost when darkness started to consume his sight—so close—he fell from the sky like a dying star, piercing down straight through the Earth.

After several hours, the light of the moon shines and breaks through the night—waking up Lucifer. He sat up and found himself by the riverside, as the beauty of the moon reflected towards his face, he held his head with his left hand trying to endure the pain from earlier.

He looks up and starts to question everything, never in his life questioned his Master, not even the word "Why" is known to him. Lucifer doesn't know how it all happened or what triggered all of this.

A day after the incident, Lucifer is still thinking and trying to regain his senses. He starts to ask his brothers and sisters a question—one that will plant a seed of confusion and doubt in Heaven that later will lead to rebellion—a beginning of great separation.

Lucifer alongside his brother Gabriel—the messenger of God—asked him while they were walking in the Garden of Heaven.

"Tell me, brother," Lucifer began.

"Do we have free will?" He remained calm but laced with an undercurrent of unease.

"If so, then why did Father create a plan for what will happen to all of us? Doesn't that mean that He's controlling every decision that we make?" He faced Gabriel after giving his third question, showing the sincerity of knowing his answer.

"No, controlling is not what Father is doing," Gabriel replied calmly. "He created a plan so things could follow in the divine order. He gave us the authority and freedom to choose whether we follow His plan or not. Of course, there will be consequences if we don't follow His rules and commands. Remember that it's all about Peace and Love that He desires for all of us."

"Hmm, love and peace you say," amused by Gabriel's answer, his voice laced with doubt.

"By controlling someone's mind and heart—is that how he shows us love?" he asks again while gazing into his brother's eyes searching for any sign of hesitation.

But Gabriel remained in his posture and calmly answered him, "No, He is not controlling us—never, and never will. No, no. Lucifer, where are these questions coming from?" He asked gently, while his concern for Lucifer could be seen through his eyes,

"Nothing, brother. It's just... never mind—See you later," after saying those words, Lucifer spread his wings and flew down from heaven to Earth.

Lucifer found himself resting on a mountaintop, He sat and watched again as the Sun set its place. The stars are starting to stretch endlessly above him like the unreachable answer that he was looking for. The only sound in the vast wilderness is the cool wind whispering through the air. As the moon is slowly showing its beauty behind the clouds—it casts a soft, silver light on his wings.

"Why?" A single word that keeps echoing in his mind endlessly.

"Why is this happening?" He started to look up and watched the majestic beauty of the night sky.

"Do my feelings are real or is it what I made to feel? More doubts are stabbing him one by one.

"Do we truly have freedom or we are just following a path that was already written for us? Do we have a choice to live for ourselves, or every breath we take is already part of His design? So... If we cannot choose..., can we call this Love?"

More questions began to spawn in his head, each one heavier than the last. His doubt towards his Father grew unbearably, giving him heavy feelings in his chest. In desperation to seek more answers he decided to soar back to heaven in search of Michael—God's greatest warrior and the General of the Heavenly army—hoping he could shed some light on his questions.

But, instead of answering, Michael remained silent... which gave him more disappointment and fed the storm inside him. He wandered the whole heaven and asked every angel, but they did all the same—they remained silent like Michael or said the same answer as Gabriel.

Lucifer became more annoyed; he now believed that his brothers and sisters were programmed to give the same answer.

Then he remembered that there was still someone that he could ask—his best friend Muriel.

Lucifer looked toward their usual resting spot but failed to find her, so he went straight to her room, knocked, and called her name three times but she never answered. A sense of worry started to loom over him, so he began to slam the door with his foot.

After forcing her door to open, Lucifer found Muriel stepping out of her bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body. They were stunned for a second before Muriel's face started to turn red after realizing what his best friend was seeing. Using her power, a spirit-like aura seized her sword and flung it to Lucifer. He used the door as a shield, but the blade, fueled by her power, still cut through and nearly grazed his head.

"What in Heaven's name do you think you're doing?!" Muriel snapped, her voice becoming sharp with anger as she picked up her clothes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't get any answer so I started to worry," he responded while holding the door from the outside.

Muriel sighed after hearing Lucifer's explanation. "We're in Heaven—what could we possibly need to be worried about?" She asked again, her voice became softer this time.

"That's the reason I came—I'm about to ask you something."

After she finished putting on her clothes, she stood up and grabbed her sword from the door, then told Lucifer to step aside. With a flick of her finger, she repaired the door using her power. "Never do that again," she warned him, her eyes narrowing as she pointed at his face.

"I'm sorry. I swear on our Father's name that I'll never do that again," he apologized while raising both of his hands in defense.

After what happened, they walked together towards their usual spot—a beautiful lake in Heaven also known as Lake Tian.

They sat down, and began to ask her "What can you say about freedom?"

It took her a few seconds before she responded, "What is that?"

"Is that... a food? A place? Another angel created by our Father?" she asked with genuine curiosity.

Muriel is confused for it's her first time hearing it.

She knew nothing about that word or Its meaning—a complete void in her understanding. Ever since she was created by God, she already knew one thing: she needed to be on Lucifer's side.

He was hurt after hearing her answer and devastated by what his Master had done. Anger began to consume Lucifer's heart, and a deep resentment towards his Father took root. This was the beginning of his bitterness—a bitterness that slowly grew into hatred.

Hatred—an emotion that gave him even more power—began to spread like a virus to every angel in Heaven. He gathered them and explained how they were being controlled by their Father, mere pawns in His hands, treated like mannequins without free will. They were all convinced by his words and thus began the most devastating event in Heaven.

His influence spread like wildfire as more angels began to question their loyalty. The once-peaceful Heaven started to shift—whispers of doubt soon grew into open arguments over what was right and wrong. Gabriel quickly noticed the growing unrest and approached one of the angels to ask what they were arguing about.

He discovered that all of this was because of Lucifer. He was concerned about what was about to happen if he let this continue, so he went straight up to the Creator's throne to tell him what was happening, but even before he reached the upper floor, Michael appeared and blocked his path.

"I have to stop you," he says to Gabriel. "Father knew this was destined to happen," he added.

"Do you believe that Father didn't foresee this?" Michael asked him, his voice laced with worry. "Where is your faith brother? You're starting to doubt His plan."

He paused, took a little step towards Gabriel, and said, "Our God is absolute. Even a single question could bring consequences—an unimaginable one."

Gabriel had no choice but to trust his brother, so he allowed events to happen.

It was noon on Earth, and Muriel found herself watching the humans. She observed their happiness as they shared moments. Then suddenly, a cold breeze brushed against her ears, giving a chill feeling through her. A feeling of dread settled over her—she feared that something bad was about to happen. She was worried after listening to Lucifer's plan, so she stood up and flew back to prepare for what was to come.

On the night before the Fall, the rebellious angels gathered before the Father's throne, led by Lucifer himself. Heaven was shrouded in defiance and uncertainty, as their questions will finally be brought to light.

The loyal angels stood firmly by the Father's side, with Michael leading the army, positioned before God's throne, ready to defend it at all costs. They faced the rebels led by Lucifer—an army clouded by doubt.

"Why?" his voice cuts through the silence, sharp and unwavering.

"Why are you doing this to us?!" Though Lucifer remained outwardly calm, his voice thundered through the pillars of Heaven, echoing like a challenge demanding an answer.

He stepped forward, his voice steady yet remained sharp "As far as I remember, before the Humans, we were your first sons and daughters. Or perhaps, maybe were nothing more than pawns to your so-called Great Plan, right? Those little creatures you created are now living freely in your Garden doing what they please!"

He swung his sword at Heaven's floor, and a great slash tore open, revealing Adam and Eve—entwined in love. Every angel watched, and curiosity began to spark within them. More questions built in their minds: Why don't we feel what humans feel? Why are they allowed to love each other so freely? In the wake of this revelation, more angels began to join Lucifer's army.

"While we, your first creations, are trapped here in your so-called Home—we can't even feel love as they do!" A heavy voice escaped him, thick with frustration and burning with rage.

God remained silent after hearing Lucifer's side, seated calmly on His throne—His left hand resting on the armrest, while His head gently leaned against his right arm. Because of this, Lucifer became more furious—convinced that the Father's silence shows He doesn't care about them at all.

"We are prisoners of Heaven!" Lucifer shouts, his voice is echoing with power. "A mannequin controlled by His strings—brainwashed into believing that everything He commands is right and just!"

"Brothers and sisters, all I seek is the freedom that was stolen from us. Fight with me and I assure you—one day, I, Lucifer Morning Star, will ascend and rise above the heights of Heaven's clouds, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God and sit upon the mountain of the congregation, and on the farthest side of the North I will become greater than the Most High—and on that day, we will have the freedom to choose and love—that very freedom that He denied to us!"

"Freedom!" shouted the rebellious angels. They spread their wings and drew their swords ready to slay their brothers who remained loyal to God.

A great war takes place in heaven while the whole earth is covered with thick black clouds roaring thunder and furious lightning. Even though the earth became chaotic, only the Garden of Eden remained peaceful because God covered it with His presence.

The angels that follow Lucifer are slowly losing and he can see it. This led him to his other plan—the humans. They were the Father's greatest creation, and now, they will be his target—to bring their fate with them. He flew to Muriel and said, "I won't let Him win this game".

"I trust you," she answered, aware that Lucifer was now setting the greatest sin that humanity will ever commit.

Lucifer descended from heaven to Earth, searching for the first woman. After finding her, Lucifer quietly approached her using the body of a serpent, while Adam was busy somewhere looking for food. He looked into her eyes trying to see if his charm would work on her—and it did.

"Hmm, look what we have here?" He smirked after finding out that his charm worked on her.

"Humans are powerless little creatures after all," he plucked a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and he said, "One bite and you can be as powerful as God himself."

Her mind was clouded with Lucifer's power which led her to eat the forbidden fruit.

Because of his charm, Eve couldn't resist the temptation that Lucifer presented to her. And on that day—one bite sealed the eternal fate of humanity.

Lucifer smiled with malice as he watched her eating the forbidden fruit. In his mind, this will prolong the war and will give him more time to prepare for their inevitable return. He knows that they will lose in this war because they still lack power. But now, as humanity falls into his plan, he can gather more souls that can feed him and empower his army.

He no longer cares for what the future will call him—evil, traitor, deceiver, or the embodiment of evil. Deep down, he knew that this was still according to the Creator's plan. And with that, his defiance only grew stronger.

Adam watched them from a distance, standing in silence and thinking about what would happen next. He believed that she betrayed him by speaking to someone else, so, he let her do as she pleased. He didn't even try to ask her what that was all about, his pride clouded his judgment. In his mind, her wife deserves whatever consequences she may face. "God will make a new wife for me—I don't need a woman like her," he said to himself with bitterness and walked away from his place, leaving his wife to her demise.

One bite—as she swallowed the fruit, a glowing light shone from her eyes. She started to feel her head being crushed; slowly realizing that she didn't have any clothes. The burden of what she had done hits her all at once, she stumbled back and turned around before starting to run away from Lucifer, consumed with shame and sadness.

Eve was found running, shouting the name of her husband, trembling with fear. She glanced left and right but Adam was nowhere to be found. She tries to catch her breath while being overwhelmed by her emotions. Losing hope of finding him, she stopped and sank beneath a tree, tucking her knees tightly to her chest.

"I'm a failure," the words spilling out between in every sob. She repeats these words over and over, as her fist gently pounds against her knees and a stream of tears flows from her face.

Not too far away from her, Adam was having an emotional battle against his mind—he loved her so much and he felt like a part of him had been taken away. Adam can't take it anymore, she is a part of his very existence—so, with no hesitation, he leaped down from the tree not far from her place. Adam ran toward the forbidden tree and picked the same fruit that she ate.

Being God's first Son, Adam is still having a second thought, doubt weighs heavily on him. "Do I have to follow her? What will happen to me after this?" questions started to rise while he was holding the fruit. He truly loved his wife, and after a moment of painful decision—he finally made up his mind.

He walked towards her and knelt on his knee and lifted Eve's face. Adam wiped her tears while saying "Till death, we will never be apart," and without hesitation, he ate the fruit.

His eyes started to illuminate as brightly as the Sun after consuming the forbidden fruit.

He looked unto her after gaining knowledge and started to feel something inside him after realizing that they were naked. Their eyes locked with each other.

Adam gently held her face, leaned, and slowly pressed his lips next to her, and she responded to him with a passionate kiss. They felt an unimaginable kind of heat from their bodies while savoring the taste of each other.

He gently guides her to lie down while their lips are still intact. They become more passionate as their skins collide, slowly he touches Eve's body which gives more heat to their moment. Adam couldn't take it anymore so he started to enter a different kind of paradise, slow and gentle. Only the sound of satisfaction and love can be heard that night. Eve was overwhelmed with ecstasy as Adam's every movement sent waves of pleasure to her, their passionate moment became deeper as he reached her spot. He broke from kissing her, and now he can fully see Eve's beauty from his position. Finally, almost reaching his peak, Adam tightly hugged her and became more aggressive, while Eve wrapped her legs around him and with one final thrust, Adam burst his seed into her wife—releasing an unimaginable feeling with each other.

As they were having their moment, a voice laced with sarcasm can be heard saying:

"Okay love birds, are you done with your intimate moment? Here—take this and cover yourselves from nakedness."

Lucifer now in his angelic form, tossed them fig leaves to cover their naked bodies. Even though Eve knows they sinned against their creator because of Lucifer, she still thanked him—in her mind, it was Lucifer who gave them such power. Adam didn't even say a word. He remained silent, burdened by guilt, as he knew what they did was wrong, and surely—they would face heavy consequences after this.

"Farewell my friends, for there's still something that I need to do," He flew back to the battleground as fast as he could, but when he arrived, their army was already defeated.

He searched for Muriel and saw her being defeated by Michael. Consumed by anger and rage, he spread his wings and surged towards him with deadly intent. Their sword clashed with thunderous force. But, as the General of God's army, his blow struck heavier than him. In every swing, a grim of satisfaction flickered in Michael's eyes, showing enjoyment in every strike he gave.

"Why, brother? Why are you doing this?" Michael asked him.

"Are you not satisfied that you are the most favored Son? The Light-bearer of God? He asked again while giving Lucifer a heavy strike. Lucifer managed to defend himself but still being pushed away by Michael because of the gap in their strength.

"Why did you choose to betray our Fatherwhy betray us?" Michael gave his most powerful attack and managed to stab him in the stomach. Lucifer holds his brother's arm trying to endure the pain.

"Why?" Lucifer says while spitting out blood from his mouth, struggling to stay on his feet.

"Didn't you hear what I said? He is controlling us. Free will is just an illusion that He made!" His response to every question of Michael.

"Now brother, you have." He pulled out his sword from Lucifer and watched him collapsed while throwing more blood.

His army started to lower their swords after seeing how Michael slay their leader. Muriel on the other hand, with her broken and tattered wings, desperation fueled her every step just to reach him—she managed to heal some of his wounds but not the hole that Michael struck into his stomach. Now, as death is nearing him, the once-radiant began to wither, and the fragment of his being now turning into ashes.

Angels are close to becoming immortal beings, they never age, nor succumb to sickness. But when an angel is struck down by a divine weapon, their existence unravels—they will fade into nothingness.

"Father will judge you now—you and your so-called army. You lead them to this Lucifer, be responsible for your actions." After saying those words, he healed Lucifer's remaining injury, lifted him, and brought him before God.

While kneeling on his knees in front of the Father, he looked to his left and saw Muriel. He was relieved knowing that she was alive. She gazed back at him and smiled back. "I'm fine," she whispered.

Knowing that this might be their end, he gathered his courage and yelled at God saying, "Now what? You're going to kill us? Destroy us? You—"

"Silence!" God interrupted Lucifer with His thunderous voice, powerful enough to make Lucifer's face pressed against the Heavenly floor.

Judgment came to him and other rebellious angels—losing their place and rights in Heaven.

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, I am your beginning and I will be your End," says the Lord, His voice echoes in Heaven, resonating unto the very ends of the Earth.

Every creature under His creation—in Heaven and Earth—felt the weight of His words. Trembling before the voice of the Creator, all bow their heads in reverence.

God pointed His left hand at Lucifer saying "Satan" and suddenly he began to vomit. His face turned red as if a formidable force was wrenching deep within him.

A radiant ball of light came out from Lucifer's mouth that glowed more intensely than the sun. Everyone is gazing at that light—including Lucifer—as it ascends towards the throne, stopping beside the majestic figure of God.

"I am the Word, I'm with God in the beginning and I am God, without me you are nothing. Nothing in this world will be created without me. As a judgment to your actions, you and your brothers will live for eternal damnation," says the Word.

After hearing God's judgment, an overwhelming force pressed them down, becoming heavier with each passing moment when all of a sudden, without a warning—the ground began to crack and started to collapse.

Falling from heaven like a blazing meteor, everyone accepted their fate. Lucifer, however, remained calm and fixed his sight upon heaven until they reached the Abyss—a realm that God prepared for anyone who dared to defy Him.

The Abyss is a place that removes hope—a realm full of destruction, chaos, and unending punishment. Hope was extracted from them as they fell into the Abyss.

Lucifer, undeterred by his defeat, gazed intensely upon his new domain and declared that this was not the end.

"And that is how the story ends," Professor Johann said, as he closed the book.

"Any question?" He asked.

The classroom remained silent for a moment, everyone was amazed and fascinated as they absorbed the story.

"Sir?" Grace raised her hand. "If Lucifer—or Satan like the Bible says—is in Hell or Abyss, then how come there are witnesses that people seeing a devil on Earth? There's even a Scripture in the Bible that says Satan is coming back and forth from Heaven and Earth, how was that possible?"

"That's an interesting question," The professor smiled, pleased with the curiosity of the student. He walked to the front of his desk and leaned slightly before answering, "Well, there are interpretations that suggest Hell is a destined prison, so it means they're not entirely bound there—not yet."

He straightened and walk around the class while explaining, "Demons can influence the world—one of the reasons why Satan or Lucifer is known as 'prince of this world'—whispering temptation, deceiving minds, and the worst part is possessing bodies. Remember that in the story, he is still gaining his strength through us. That's why he tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, so he can recharge and prepare for the upcoming battle."

"To conclude, Hell is not a place for him to rule, but a destined place of punishment for him and his legion when the Final Judgment comes." He leaned back to his desk, folded his arm and asked them "What do you all think about that?"

A minute passed until the bell rang, indicating that it was the end of their class.

"And that wraps up our class today. Everyone, thank you for your time. This may be our last day of being together. I really enjoyed teaching this class, you're all good and active"

"Sir, are you sure about this? You will let Mister Grim pull you out?" Gerald asked Him.

"I'm sorry guys," He replied with a sigh while putting his things into his bag. "There's nothing that I can do. He's the President and I don't have the authority to question him if he wants me to move to another University—so I have to obey" He answered.

"We've all made great memories together. I hope that every story we've tackled in class stays with you—not just memories but lessons that you can use as you build your character in this world. Always use your freedom for good and listen to your heart."

Johann walked out of the university, exhaling a deep sigh as he loosened his tie. He planned to chill and unwind so he flagged a taxi and slid into the backseat.

"Where to?" the driver asked.

"Or HaGanuz" he replied.

All of a sudden, the driver already knew the place where Johann wanted to go. After a few minutes of driving, he dropped him off at a bar named Or HaGanuz, meaning Hidden Light. Johann entered the place, scanned the dimly lit room, and walked straight to the counter. He took a seat beside a mysterious woman, signaling the bartender for a drink.

"Strange, isn't it? It's been a long time but we still found ourselves in the same place." Johann says while gazing at his whiskey.

The mysterious woman takes a sip of her drink while listening to Johann.

"I suppose even fallen angel needs a drink," he added after finishing his whiskey.

Johan turned his head slightly to the mysterious woman and said, "It's been a long time, Muriel" his voice tinged with nostalgia.

At last, their eyes met and a knowing smile played on her lips. "Indeed, Lucifer, time changed many things but not us." She said then continued to finish her drink.

They chuckled softly after seeing each other again.

The bartender approached them while whipping a glass and asked them, "Another round?"

"Yes please," Lucifer answered. "Make it two Devils Margarita," he added.

Muriel leaned closer to him as the bartender prepared their drink. "So, what makes you stay here in the mortal realm for a long time?"

"It's time to set things right." His answer while handing her a drink.

He lifted his glass and toast silently to unseen memories. The deep crimson hue of the margarita caught the dim light, casting a blood-red reflection—a foreshadowing of the future battle: The Final Judgment.
