Using the distraction Bella had, Suthrath summoned the weapon of his choice- A sword.
It was a pitch black double edged sword; Four and half feet in length which was suited to his tall height. Although, its hilt was enough in length to wield it by two hands- Suthrath had the strength to wield it single handily.
He gave the sword few turns and twirls and it felt as if the sword was a part of him. His predecessor had been a trained warrior and now with the memories and experiences comprised with the gifts, Suthrath felt too powerful… almost invincible.
With confident strides, he walked behind Bella. By the time, the duo reached outside the house, they could hear the voices of argument coming from the garden which was at the forefront of Suthrath's house.
Standing with his back towards the entrance of the house was an old man with grey hair. He was councillor Lander who had decided to sacrifice himself to give Suthrath a chance to escape.
Standing along with him were around a dozen people which included his two sons and it seemed that they all were willing to die for their new leader.
Facing Lander, directly opposite him was a middle aged man- Equro. Behind him were almost 30 people. He had gathered quite a force. And both the sides had their weapons brandished.
The sound of Suthrath's arrival attracted the attention of everyone present there.
Lander had his eyes widened in shock and surprise, "Lord... what are you doing here?"
He clearly expected that the new leader should have taken the back door and run away.
Suthrath ignored Lander as he strode past him and stopped only when he stood at some distance away from Equro, when he was in the range of Suthrath's sword.
Though Equro was a tall man of 6 feet in height, Suthrath easily towered over him. Seeing Suthrath standing well and in front of him, a trace of hesitation flickered on his face but in a moment Equro steeled his face.
"Councillor Equro," Suthrath said and his voice carried to some distance into the ears of the crowd that had gathered to watch everything unfold.
Suthrath did not want unnecessary blood as every hand was going to be important in the upcoming war but few threats had to be plucked out.
"If you had chosen your path as a warrior to take up the leadership, I would have had some respect for you," he continued and Equro's eyes flickered. "But you betrayed our settlement... you chose a time for your treachery when we are in crisis."
"When we are at war from an outside force," Suthrath's voice boomed as it echoed in the silent surrounding, "you decided to disturb us internally."
"You committed a crime and there is only one punishment," Suthrath had not even finished his words when he slashed his sword.
Equro had no time to react and his head along with half of the neck was sliced off from his body. A fountain of blood erupted from his remaining neck while his head fell and rolled to some distance away.
Suthrath's act and with the ease with which he had killed Equro plunged everyone into a state of deep shock. None of the people present there were able to comprehend their head around what had transpired.
Suthrath's voice, as he continued, brought them out of the shock as he said looking towards Equro's men, "I am willing to give you all a chance of redemption..."
"Drop your weapons and get on your knees," he ordered.
Without a leader, hesitation flickered in their eyes but 3 people rushed towards Suthrath.
The first person was a muscular and burly man and he was carrying a large stone hammer as his weapon. He was Equro's second in command and his most trusted subordinate.
He smashed his hammer vertically with an intent of striking it on Suthrath's head. But his movements appeared like a child play to the new leader.
Suthrath stepped aside as the hammer came crashing downwards and since it did strike nothing but air, the man lost his balance because of the momentum of the hammer and he stumbled. But before he could take the control back of his hammer and his body, Suthrath slashed his sword one more time and another head rolled on the ground.
Even before the body of the man fell, the other two people, Equro's sons were upon Suthrath. Both of them were wielding a sword.
Suthrath raised my sword just in time to block the vertical slash of the two men which had been aimed at his face.
In next instant, Suthrath raised his right leg and kicked one of the two man. His leg struck his stomach and the man was thrown on the ground.
With another swift motion of his sword, Suthrath beheaded the second man.
Suthrath had not to deal with the other man who had been kicked on the ground as Lander had now recovered from his shock and was already upon him. The councillor did not hesitate as he stabbed the man in his heart and killed him.
Suthrath again looked towards the men facing him and his cold voice echoed again, "Kneel and repent or death."
Lander and his men were now high on confidence and were hungrily eyeing towards the group. Slowly, one by one they started to kneel and they dropped their weapons.
"Lock them all," Suthrath ordered to Lander. "I will decide their punishment later."
Lander who was now visibly excited nodded his head, "Yes Lord."
"Also call a council meeting," Suthrath continued. "I will meet them all in some time."
"Yes Lord," Lander replied.
After giving his second command, he turned and walked back into the house with Bella towing behind him.
