Chapter 2 - 2. "Princess, I Can’t Bear to See You in Pain"

[The door to the princess's chamber stood wide open, allowing you to catch a glimpse of the dimly lit interior, filled with the lingering scent of fine wine.]

[Overcome by a dangerous impulse, you stepped into Morgan's quarters.]

[There, you saw her—completely drunk, lying atop a luxurious silk bed embroidered with noble patterns. A faint trace of wine lingered on her soft, pink lips.]

[You were stunned. Never before had you seen Morgan in such a state. The princess you had always known was cold, distant, and untouchable.]

[But now, here she was—completely defenseless.]

[You approached her and made a decision that would forever change your life.]

Even though these were mere words echoing in Rei's mind…

He could feel every detail as if he were truly there.

The soft texture of the luxurious woolen carpet. The rich aroma of fine wine filling the air.And Morgan herself, collapsed on the bed, her breath laced with the scent of alcohol.

Everything was so real.

No matter how hard he tried to put his thoughts into words—

All that remained was a single phrase: "Magnificent."

Yes, there was no other way to describe it.

If the girl he met in Chaldea earlier was a mere 60 points on a scale—

Then Morgan was a perfect 100. There was no way anyone could ignore her.

Perhaps this was what they called a fateful encounter.

As he sighed in admiration, time continued to move forward.

[You reached out and touched Morgan's hand, unwilling to let go. Even in her intoxicated state, Morgan felt your touch.]

[Morgan woke up. Yet, rather than immediately pushing you away, she instead asked a question that caught you completely off guard.]

"Am I beautiful?"

Along with her words came a piercing gaze—Morgan's deep blue eyes, as vast as the ocean, fixated on Rei.

She didn't seem to care why he was here. She didn't ask what gave him the audacity to act like this.

Right now, none of that mattered to her.

She only wanted to know one thing.

"Am I beautiful?"

Even if this was crossing a line, Rei chose to answer honestly.

"Princess, if you're asking for my opinion, then my answer is that you are extraordinarily beautiful."

"All of Britain could never find a sanctuary as captivating as you."

Everything seemed to flow so naturally.

[Charisma Activated.]

[Morgan fully believed your words—but instead of joy, she sank into a deeper sorrow. She seemed to dislike to be paired with the word 'sanctuary.']

[Morgan pushed your hand away, curled up on the bed, and fell into silence.]

[You sense that all of this is somehow connected to the grand banquet.]

[You decide to take a risk and ask.]

"Princess, have you encountered some troubling matter? If you would share it with me, perhaps I may be able to offer a solution."

Hearing these words, Morgan lifted her head.

In the prime of her youth, she looked at the foolish knight before her and suddenly let out a cold laugh.

"Are you trying to atone for your sins?"

"Princess, I won't deny that the thought has crossed my mind," Rei answered truthfully. "But more than that, I want to know why you are so sorrowful."

"That is none of your concern."

Morgan's response was icy.

"Foolish knight, do not overstep your bounds. The only reason you're standing here right now is thanks to the great King Uther… and that damned wine."

"But, Princess, I am not overstepping," Rei said, resting his hand on the hilt of his longsword.

"It is my duty as your loyal knight to serve and protect you."

The simulation continued.

[Morgan remained silent for a long time after hearing your pledge of loyalty.]

[Your words had moved her. She seemed as though she wanted to say more, but in the end, she chose to remain silent.]

[There was something weighing heavily on her heart.]

[You waited for a long time but realized you couldn't afford to sit idly by.]

[You decided to encourage her, urging the drunken princess to open her heart to you.]

[You succeeded.]

[Now, she is about to ask you a question that will decide your fate.]

"Let me ask you something," Princess Morgan said, her eyes still filled with hesitation as she looked at Rei.

"Just now, you said that as a knight, your loyalty belongs to me. Is that correct?"

"Yes, Princess," Rei answered without hesitation. "To serve and fight for you is the greatest honor I could ever hope to achieve."

These words of oath came naturally to him, as if he had always known them by heart.

It was a memory that had surfaced within him—because, in this simulation, he was a knight who had lived through many battles.

Loyalty and devotion had long since been ingrained in his very being.

"Then—"

Morgan glanced around. The grand chamber was empty, leaving only the two of them—one drunken princess and one reckless knight.

Moonlight streamed in through the stained-glass window, shattering into a spectrum of colors across the stone floor.

Dark clouds drifted past.

The room was swallowed in darkness.

Then, in the silence, Morgan spoke:

"But if, one day in the future, I no longer rule over Britain—if another king sits upon the throne instead of me..."

"Would you still swear your loyalty to me?"

Rei had not expected such a question. He froze, unable to respond immediately.

The clouds passed.

Morgan's face was illuminated once more by the moonlight—her expression on the verge of collapse.

"I knew it… everything was just an illusion."

"I never truly had anything to begin with."

Her voice trembled with sorrow and despair.

[Because of your brief hesitation, Morgan fell into a deep and endless sadness.]

[You realized you had made a terrible mistake, but it was already too late.]

[Morgan spiraled into extreme self-doubt, teetering on the edge of madness.]

[You still do not understand why she became like this after the banquet, but you know that if this continues, things will only get worse. You must find a way to ease her pain.]

Watching Morgan as she laughed coldly one moment and sobbed the next…

Rei knew he couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

Her sorrow had been caused by his hesitation.

And so, he must be the one to put an end to it.

A sharp clatter rang out.

The pieces of his knight's armor hit the floor, echoing through the silent room.

"Foolish knight, what do you think you're doing?!"

Even in her madness, Morgan still possessed a degree of rationality.

But Rei didn't stop.

He took a deep breath—one as if he were about to march onto the battlefield.

"Princess, I cannot bear to see you in pain."

"Even if you were to have me executed for this, I would still do everything in my power to ease your sorrow."
