Chapter 8 - A Deal with Darkness

Amelia stood alone in the cold, dimly lit hallway outside Alexander's office, the weight of his words still heavy in her chest. The decision she had made felt like a turning point, and she knew that there was no coming back from it. The line between right and wrong, once so clear, had now become a hazy fog, and Amelia found herself struggling to find her footing.

Her mind raced with the task ahead. The threat to Sinclair Enterprises was closer than ever, and now she had been entrusted with the responsibility of eliminating it. She wasn't sure what that meant yet, but Alexander's tone had left no room for doubt: she was the one who would have to make the hard choices.

As she pushed the door open and stepped into Alexander's office, she found him sitting behind his desk, the soft glow of the city lights casting shadows over his features. There was an eerie calm about him, a predatory stillness that made Amelia feel both drawn to him and repelled by him.

"You're here," he said, his voice smooth but colder than usual. "I hope you're ready."

Amelia nodded, though she couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that had settled in her stomach. "What exactly do you need me to do?"

Alexander's eyes flickered briefly before he spoke again. "There's a person inside the company who's been feeding information to the enemy. I need you to find out who they are—and eliminate them. Discreetly, of course."

The words hung in the air, heavy with implications. Amelia had known this was coming, but the reality of it was still jarring. She had crossed lines before, but this… this felt like something else entirely.

"And how do you expect me to do that?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady, but the uncertainty in her tone was unmistakable.

"You're a smart woman, Amelia," Alexander replied, his gaze intense. "I'm sure you'll figure it out. You know who to trust—and who to use."

The implication behind his words was clear: Amelia was now part of this game in a way she hadn't been before. She was being asked to make alliances and betrayals of her own. The thought of it made her stomach turn, but she didn't dare show it. She had already committed, and there was no turning back.

"I'll do it," she said, her voice more certain than she felt. "I'll find them."

Alexander leaned forward slightly, his expression unreadable. "Good. But remember, once you make this choice, there's no coming back. You'll be in this with me—forever."

The weight of his words settled around her like a shroud, and she felt a cold shiver run down her spine. She knew what he meant. Once she made this move, she would be fully immersed in the darkness of Sinclair Enterprises, where loyalty and ambition were the only things that mattered.

As Amelia left the office, she felt the familiar sense of dread wash over her, but it was different this time. It wasn't just fear of the task ahead—it was fear of herself. She had always prided herself on her integrity, but now she was being asked to betray that, to abandon the very values she had built her life on. Could she really do it? Could she become the kind of person who played the game without remorse?

She didn't know the answer. But what she did know was that the deeper she went, the harder it would be to find a way out.

That night, as she lay in bed, the question kept circling in her mind: How much of herself would she have to give up to survive this?

The next day, Amelia set her plan into motion. She was more cautious than ever, careful not to reveal too much to anyone. She began by watching the people around her more closely, picking up on subtle hints, trying to piece together who might be behind the betrayal. Every conversation, every look, every gesture was scrutinized with a new intensity. The pressure was mounting, and every day she spent in the office, the more she felt the walls closing in around her.

Then, one afternoon, something caught her attention. A low-level employee who had always seemed harmless, too eager to please, was acting strangely. He was speaking in hushed tones to one of the members of the opposition group, his eyes darting nervously around the room. Amelia's instincts told her this was the moment. She had found her lead.

That evening, she approached him under the guise of a casual conversation. She made small talk, all the while observing him closely, watching for any signs of guilt. When the conversation turned to business, she made her move. She mentioned a few details that only someone with insider knowledge could know.

His eyes widened for a fraction of a second. Just long enough.

It was enough.

The next day, Amelia received confirmation from her sources. The man was indeed the leak. The enemy had planted him inside Sinclair Enterprises, and he was the one responsible for the intel that had been leaking to their rivals.

Amelia's heart raced as she processed the information. She had found him, and now she had to make her choice. She could hand him over to Alexander and have him eliminated, or she could keep him alive, use him for her own purposes.

Her fingers trembled as she typed the message to Alexander, telling him that the traitor had been identified. But inside, Amelia was already starting to wonder how far she would go to protect her own future.

In this game, the stakes were higher than she had ever imagined, and every decision now carried a weight that could shatter everything she had worked for.

But Alexander was waiting for her answer. And he would not be kept waiting for long.
