Zara shook her head in irritation, glancing at her watch, "You shouldn't have done that."
"Please, spare me this once. Please, I would give you anything. Everything! What do you want? Name it!"
His words made her eyes twitch and she shot at his leg. His mouth opened wide in a scream and she shot right into it, not missing an inch, silencing him in an instant.
Just as he fell backward, Zara heard heavy footsteps out the door. She held the door knob and glanced at her watch. The footsteps were getting closer and then, the door knob rattled.
She quickly stepped to the side, her eyes on her watch every second. The moment the door burst open, the lights went off.
Zara stealthily side stepped the men who had just broken into the room.
"Hey! Come back here!" It was the voice of the guards, who had stepped in with Alexander.
They tried to chase after her, but Zara was quicker, making her way down the hall to the elevator.
The moment she got there, she swiftly made a U-Turn, going through a bend and down the stairs.
She still held her gun. And that was because her task was yet to be completed. Her next target was also in this penthouse, and she knew nothing was stopping her from achieving her sole aim.
Not even the commotion coming from the top floor, which she has undoubtedly caused. The lights came on and she stepped into a random floor, looking for an elevator.
She knew, by now, the guards were probably going down the exit, or the parking lot. Cause, that is likely where she was supposed to be headed.
But as soon as Zara found an elevator, she got in, hitting the button for the first floor.
The moment the elevator came to a halt, Zara pointed her gun forward. The doors opened and she stepped out.
Slowly making her way to the room where the celebration was taking place, she was satisfied to see the guests still chattering excitedly, like nothing had happened.
Her eyes searched the room quietly, but couldn't spot him anywhere. She leaned on a wall, waited for a few minutes, and checked again.
He should be in there, she thought. Her brows furrowed as she racked her brain for every possible place he could be.
He could not have left. She was sure of that! She stealthily made her way back down the hall, and then she halted.
She heard a voice, coming from the balcony, and she tip toed to get a closer look. And there, she saw him, her next target, talking to someone on the phone as he leaned on a railing.
Zara let out a breath as she pointed her gun at him, pulled the trigger straight at his head, and watched him slump.
Satisfied, she cautiously walked away, heading toward the staircase this time, until she was out of the building.

The ride home was peaceful and as Zara got to her residential area. She looked around, and for a few seconds, she contemplated making a run for it, out of the car and into the house.
However, she could not afford to risk it. So, she quickly took off her coat, revealing a simple short flowery gown underneath. She placed the cloak in a leather bag and proceeded to take off the boots. Her car was tinted, so it was difficult for anyone to see what she was doing in the car.
Not like there was a single soul around, but Zara was not taking any chances.
By the time she was done, she stepped out of the car and walked into the compound, careful not to attract any attention, or perhaps rouse her annoying neighbors from their sleep.
She lived on the first floor of the run down building. And her room was the only available one up there. It wasn't the best place to live, but it was convenient for Zara.
The moment Zara stepped into her room, she made a beeline to her bathroom and turned on the sink.
Her reflection in the mirror caught her attention and for a few moments, she stared at herself. The girl staring back at her looked so innocent and naive, but only to the outside world, and when she wanted to be that way.
No one knows the other identity in her. The ruthless, dreaded assassin that lives in her. Hidden beneath the surface.
Quickly, she washed off the blood stains on her hands, watching as the red liquid seeped down the drain.
Back at the penthouse building, things were getting chaotic at the moment. Alexander stood in the room where he had found his father's body, cold and lifeless. His fists were clenched at his sides as he fought to control his emotions.
He had refused to step out of the room even as the paramedics were called and they took the body out of there. The moment the City's Police were called, the entire building was sealed and guarded, refraining every single person from stepping out.
His breathing was hard as he fought hard to control his emotions. He heard footsteps behind him, and one of the bodyguards came in.
In a cold unfeeling voice, Alexander inquired, "Were you able to catch him?"
His gaze was not on them, instead they remained on the spot where his father's body once was. After a few beats, they replied, "He was able to get away. We lost him, Sir."
Slowly, he turned his head toward them, his voice rising, "You lost him? You are telling me you were so incompetent that you could not get your hands on a murderer, who had just killed my father? Tell me, how did the Mayor of this City get to have bodyguards as amateurish as you all? How?"
Their heads were bowed downward as they replied in unison, "Apologies, Sir."
That was the last thing Alexander needed to hear at the moment. Before he could say another word though, a different guard came in an instant.
Alexander's eyes snapped to him immediately, "Now, What? Did you manage to find the culprit?"
"No, Sir," the guard replied, almost breathlessly, "We have another problem."
Alexander's gaze narrowed conspicuously, "What is it? Spit it out!"
"We found Mister Jonathan's body at the balcony. He was shot!"
"Do everything you can, to find whoever is responsible for this!"
