Chapter 10 - Goblin King (2)

The king turned around quickly, thrusting his staff forward sending a bright beam of green energy forward.

Ryan was too slow to dodge, allowing the beam to crash into him, sending him skidding across the palace once more.

[-10HP.]

However, that was the least of Ryan's worries, he had seen something much more terrifying, the dungeon was about to level up, and if he couldn't defeat the king soon, he would definitely die.

'System? How long do I have until the dungeon levels up?' Ryan asked the system while wiping the blood on his lips, he knew his life was already over, but that didn't mean he would give up.

[Time till Level up.]

[0:1:50.]

'I have one minute to kill this thing, before it becomes increases it's rank.' Ryan said, he stood to his feet with renewed determination, the chances of him winning were already slim and were getting slimmer by the minute.

'I need to find a way to get through that thing's barrier.' Ryan thought, he was in the process of formulating a strategy when a green ball of energy inched too close to him.

Ryan dodged the attack swiftly, but was met by the full force of the Goblin King's hands about to crash into him, Ryan stretched out both his hands in retaliation, sending forth two powerful lightning bolts.

The lightning bolts crashed into the King's face which had left unguarded thanks to the energy concentrated around it's hands, disorienting the king and giving Ryan a chance to move away.

'I don't think it can spread the energy across it's entire body continuously, I need to time my attacks.' Ryan thought to himself, while the effects of his lightning bolts were still burdening the king, Ryan released five more lightning bolts, but they had all been blocked by the King's barrier.

Ryan grunted in frustration, he was about to make another attack, when another beam of energy crashed into him, and this time, Ryan was sent flying, breaking through the castle walls.

[-50 HP]

There was nothing Ryan could do, his death was certain, there was no trickery or magic he could use to escape, he was done for.

The goblin king chuckled as he stared at Ryan's defeated body on the ground, there was just something about seeing humans beneath him that gave him joy.

"I have got to say, of all the humans that have risen against me, you are by far the weakest." The Goblin King said with a smirk on it's face.

"What did they throw you in here for?" The king asked mockingly, only the worst of the worst were sent to their death here, rapists, mass murderers, people guilty of something as serious as treason.

"I gues I angered my father, the king." Ryan said, causing the Goblin King to stare at him in confusion, what did he mean by his father was the king.

"And what exactly would make the king send his son here to die?" The Goblin King asked in confusion, it was a first for him, he had never heard anything like this.

"I am a summoner." Ryan said, and the goblin king seemed even more confused, he knew a lot about the human world and the stigmatization of summoners, but no summoner fought like Ryan.

"A summoner capable of punching through walls and shooting lightning?" The Goblin King asked, he had taken a peculiar interest to Ryan, it seemed like with each word that came out of his mouth, Ryan was becoming more interesting.

"I'm no ordinary summoner, I carry the power of the old gods." Ryan said, this was his very last card, the only thing he knew that could work.

Every beast was created by the gods, and they all held deep respect for them, Ryan's last hope was that he would somehow convince the goblin king to show him respect since he carried the power of the gods.

"I see now, that speed was of Hermes, your strength of Hercules and the lightning was definitely Zeus's bolt." The Goblin King said in shock, this was a first for him, meeting a human who didn't get their power from the Anunaki.

"Well, that still changes nothing, if I don't end you here, you'll end me." The Goblin King said, he raised his staff once more, ready to bash Ryan's head in.

Seconds before the Goblin King's staff could hit Ryan, his body fell to the ground like a lump of wood, and began violently shaking.

A smirk appeared on Ryan's face, he had one last trick up his sleeve, and that was waiting for the king to evolve, a strategy he had come up with while in his last moments.

Actually, it was something he should have discovered earlier, there was no logical explanation for a rank B beast to be in a rank F dungeon, except the beast wasn't a B ranked beast.

The Goblin King was actually an F Ranked beast who has somehow managed to draw energy from the bodies of humans to boost his ranks.

The first indication for Ryan was when he noticed the whole level up thing of the Paradox Dungeon, if the Dungeon has been leveling up for years, then why did it's beasts go back to F Rank?

The Goblins only leveled up when they killed humans, and with the magical symbols all around him, Ryan could tell that the Goblin King had somehow managed to learn magic and used that to extract power from the humans his minions killed.

[Inspect.]

[F ranked Goblin King.]

"Arrogant bastard." Ryan said, he aimed both hands at the goblin king, releasing two thunderbolts that killed the Goblin King on impact.

[Quest Completed.]

[Rewards...]

Ryan was about to analyze the rewards, but the sight of the ground splitting in two was enough to draw his attention back to the chaos unfolding around him.

[You have defeated the Dungeon Monarch, the Dungeon is collapsing.]

[Time left: 30 seconds]

Ryan had 30 seconds to get he and Rachel back to the Dungeon entrance, but he knew there just wasn't enough time, he would either have to abandon Rachel, or pull of the impossible.
