Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Where Am I

James

When I came to, I saw dozens of men laying in a hallway. They were all of varying colors, shapes, and sizes. Some of them still had a brown sack covering their heads.

As I looked down at myself, I realized I was still bound in chains. My chains were connected to another guy, who also happened to be awake.

We lay piled in the hallway, almost stacked atop one another like pack rats. Nothing about this could have been humane. I studied my surroundings, looking for something, anything that could point me out of here.

The hallway was narrow and came to a dead end only a mere few feet away from where I was sitting. It held ugly brown wallpaper with red designs on it. Near the front of the hallway was only one opening, a sharp turn to the left. I could see nothing pass the bodies that were in front of me.

A sensation of someone moving caught my right side, drawing me back to the present. The person on my right was still asleep probably had been knocked out as well.

I turned to my left, surprised to see a bald, brown guy. His muscular stature said that he could probably beat a few grown men up at once. The back of his head touched the wall, a look of indifference splayed across his face.

"Do you know what's going on, where are we?" I asked him.

"It's better if you don't speak," he replied plainly. I had so many questions. I just wanted some answers, and to get the hell out of this place.

"Listen, I don't know where I am. I have nothing to do with this. I just need to get home. Can you just help me, please?" I asked. I was totally confused. I just needed to know what the hell was going on.

A man dressed in all black, with a hooded face came around the corner of the dimly lit hallyway. "No talking."

I couldn't see any of his features, just that he was well built. Upon a final glance at all of us, he returned to his post.

"Look. I've heard rumors, but I don't know for sure." He looked around at the sorry state of all of us. I could see the pity and dread just beyond his eyes.

"What?" I quietly asked.

"A place where bad men go." His brown pupils bore into mine. His chin tilted upward as if he was admitting defeat. "Hell."
