AURORA RORY WYNTER
I stepped into the sitting room that afternoon, my eyes scanning the space until they landed on him - Liam Ryder, my husband whom I've been married to for three years.
He was lounging on the couch, relaxed, with Sofia snuggled up in his lap. My heart twisted in my chest, the familiar scene still pierced me with pain. But for some unknown reason, it didn't hurt as it used to.
I cleared my throat to make my presence known to them, even when I knew he already sensed my presence, he just never acknowledged it.
I took a deep breath, "Liam, can I see you for a moment?" I asked, as he finally tore off his gaze from her face and looked at me with a cold glare.
"I'm sure you saw how busy I was when you came in, didn't you? I don't have the time to chitchat. When I'm done, I will send Karina to call you."
I exhaled, trying to keep my emotions in check as my mind felt heavy with a jumble of emotions, my chest also tightened, but I still managed to squeeze out, "I'm not going to take too much of your time, just give me a few minutes."
He frowned, "If whatever you have to say is so important that it can't wait, then you should just say it here." He said as he turned his back on me once more, caressing Sofia's back softly as he stared lovingly at her.
"Liam... I..."
Although something was boiling in me, I exhaled, calming myself down. "Just a few minutes, it's important I see you."
"Can you not understand simple words? I said, I'm busy, right now! " Or do you want to – "
The words remained incomplete when Sofia, who had been silent the whole time, interrupted him, "I guess I should go. When you're done, I'll be waiting for you in your room." She said, trying to stand up, but Liam held her in place.
His face was twisted with a scowl, "No Sofia, you're not going anywhere, and if a person were to leave, it would be her, not you!"
Right. It has always been like this.
I couldn't cry, because there was nothing left to cry. I was preparing myself to say why I was there when Sofia placed her hand on Liam's, which was holding her waist in place, "Liam just listen to what she has to say, and I also remember that I wanted to call my mother, so I'll wait for you in your room."
He didn't seem as if he wanted to let go as his grip tightened on her hip, but he reluctantly approved and released his hold on her. "Fine, you go ahead, I will catch up with you soon."
The moment she was out of the sitting room, his gaze hardened on me, "So what do you have to say that you deemed so important to interrupt my personal time?"
Even though it pained me to acknowledge the depth of his hatred, right now, the pain in my heart exceeded it all. "I lost the baby, " I said lifelessly, as I felt as if my knees would give out the next minute as my eyes also turned blurry.
"So?" He curled an eyebrow as the darkness in his eyes deepened more.
I shook my head as if it would fall off as I yelled at him, "How could you be so cruel Liam, I've lived in this house for three years, and not once have I asked for your love, not for once have I questioned your decisions!"
I clutched my chest as tears began to spill out of my eyes, the salty water running down my cheeks, "Not for once Liam, I've bared the pains and put up with your cold shoulders all alone, but what about my baby? Our innocent baby, I was in the hospital for two weeks, two good weeks, Liam. I felt as if I was going to die, but not once, not even fucking once did you show your face!"
His already darkened face was twisted, as his lips curled up in distaste, "Stop playing the victims' games here alright! And our baby, you say? Do I ever discuss wanting a baby with you? Whatever might have happened that night was a mistake I regret, and why should I take responsibility for it?
When the one who took you that night was my Wolf and not me! I didn't have sex with you, my Wolf did! At least you were in your right state of mind. Why didn't you stop it? I bet you wouldn't, isn't that what you've always wanted?"
My shoulders slumped. My whole self felt like a deflated balloon, as the weight of my disappointment crushed me, the anger, the sadness, the pain, it has always been there, but I've been ignoring it, giving myself the allusions that he will one day look at me.
And looking at his face right now, his eyes were filled with hatred that has ever been there, but I was too blind, no not blind, I've always ignored them.
Without looking, I dipped my hand into the bag hung on my shoulder and took out a brown envelope,
"Here, take it." I handed him a pen right after, as I wiped my face with my sleeves, sniffing as I did so.
"What the heck?" He scoffed and opened the envelope, glancing at me as he took out some papers in it, his eyes meticulously scanned the page.
Suddenly, his lips curled up with an amusing smile, he raised his head to look at me as he asked, "Divorce papers?"
"Yes, let's divorce."
He casually flipped the papers as he threw them on the nearby table. "And what reason do you think would make me sign this?"
I found myself laughing, but at that moment it was a harsh cackle, a jarring sound that grated on my nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard.
"What reasons did you ask Liam? Let's just say I'm tired of living a lie, of living a facade, I have got tired of chasing after what wasn't meant to be mine only to lose everything. I'm tired of you Liam! I don't want to be your Luna! Not anymore."
At least I've been nothing to him, but a leech, a shard of glass in his eyes, someone standing between his goal of getting married to his mistress.
Even if he wouldn't look at me, if his love was for his mate, his precious beloved Sofia Vega, but why do I have to sacrifice my innocent baby due to my stupidity, and his cruelty?
I was expecting him to sign the papers, but instead his icy voice growled at me, "And do you really think you of all people deserve that? What makes you think I'll give you what you want? Are you tired? Do you feel like giving up? Are you experiencing that same sense of hopelessness? Tell me Rory, are you feeling that desperation? Because that's exactly how I felt three years ago!"
