Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 3

It all began when the group encountered a strange new door—a blackened, rusted door with ominous carvings. It didn't look like the usual wooden doors they'd come to expect. With no other options, Damien pushed it open, and they found themselves in a vast underground network, a place that felt older than anything they had seen in Doors. The atmosphere was colder here, and the sound of distant, echoing clinks of metal and shifting rocks sent a shiver down their spines.

"I have a bad feeling about this," Mira said, her voice echoing off the walls. She had always been the first to pick up on subtle changes in the environment, and this time, her gut instinct was telling her that something terrible was waiting for them in these mines.

"We've got this," Damien said with determination. "Stick close, and keep your eyes peeled. We don't know what's waiting for us."

They moved forward cautiously, the flickering lights casting eerie shadows that seemed to move on their own. The walls of the mines were jagged, and the floor was uneven, making it hard to move quickly. The further they walked, the more claustrophobic the place became. The sound of rushing water could be heard somewhere far in the distance, along with the faintest echo of something… or someone… watching them.

Elijah, ever the strategist, was already scanning the environment for any potential threats or useful objects. "There might be hidden keys or items around here," he muttered, pulling open drawers and searching nearby crates. He was the first to spot a rusty old lantern tucked behind a pile of rocks. "This could help us see better in the dark."

But just as they were about to move on, a loud clank rang through the cavern. It was followed by the distant growl of something massive shifting beneath the ground.

"Did you hear that?" Noah whispered, his voice unusually tense.

"I heard it," Mira said, her eyes darting around. "We need to get moving. Whatever that sound was, it's not friendly."

The group quickened their pace, now more alert. As they turned a corner, they encountered the first of many horrors in the Mines: The Miner's Curse. It was a grotesque, twisted figure—a tall, hunched creature with glowing eyes and a body made of rusted mining tools and old, broken equipment. It dragged its clawed hands along the walls, leaving a trail of sparks as it searched for its next victim.

"Hide!" Damien shouted.

Everyone darted for cover, ducking behind rocks and old machinery as the creature lumbered past them. The air was thick with tension. They could hear the sound of its heavy breathing and the scraping of its claws on the stone, and it seemed like it was searching for them—its eyes flickering as they moved in the darkness.

After what felt like forever, the Miner's Curse finally disappeared into the distance. Damien exhaled slowly. "That was way too close."

"We need to find an exit," Mira said, her voice tight. "And fast."

The group pressed on, navigating through dark tunnels and trying to avoid making any noise. But the deeper they went, the more it felt like the mine itself was alive, watching them, waiting for them to make a mistake. The lights flickered again, and the group's nerves were on edge.

Suddenly, they heard a rumble. The walls of the mine seemed to shake, and then a thunderous roar echoed through the tunnels. It was The Stone Beast, the terrifying creature they'd heard stories about, known to destroy anyone foolish enough to cross its path. The ground began to tremble as it drew closer.

"We need to run," Elijah said, panic creeping into his voice. "It's right behind us!"

The group sprinted down the winding tunnels, trying to outrun the Stone Beast. It was huge, its massive form thundering through the mine, crushing rocks beneath its feet as it chased them. The walls closed in, making it harder to move quickly, and the group had to duck and weave through collapsing tunnels, barely avoiding being crushed.

Damien led the charge, his heart pounding in his chest. "This way!" he shouted, spotting a small, narrow opening ahead. "We can make it through there!"

They squeezed through the tight gap just as the Stone Beast smashed into the rocks behind them, sending debris flying. With seconds to spare, they found themselves in a small cavern. But the worst was far from over.

As they caught their breath, another creature appeared—a Cavern Wraith, its dark shadowy figure floating just above the ground. Its glowing eyes stared them down, and its chilling wail filled the air. This new threat seemed almost worse than the Miner's Curse, with its ability to pass through walls and disappear into thin air.

"We need to hide," Noah said calmly, but there was an edge of urgency in his voice.

The group split up to find cover in the cavern, but they had no choice but to keep moving. Each room was more dangerous than the last, and with the Cavern Wraith closing in, they knew they had to get to the exit before the mine became their grave.
