I left the Wasp section and headed toward the library's exit. When I arrived, I saw that Teacher Kendrick and the others were already waiting for me. It seemed I was the last one to arrive.
"Why does your egg look so strange?" William asked as soon as I entered their field of vision.
"I don't really know… Maybe it's because it's an insect egg, not an animal's," I replied hesitantly.
I glanced at the eggs the others were holding. Lucy's was shiny red with white patterns, making it look striking. William's, on the other hand, was white with brown stripes all over it, which piqued my curiosity.
"What kind of tiger egg did you get, William? And what about the rest of you?" I asked, making sure to include everyone so I wouldn't seem impolite.
"I got the egg of an Earthfall Tiger," William said, smirking proudly.
I nearly choked. How lucky could this bastard be? The Earthfall Tiger's bloodline was deeply connected to the Earth element. If its bonder chose Earth as their element upon reaching 15% fusion, they would gain incredibly powerful defensive and offensive skills. It was one of the best choices possible for someone like William, who wanted Earth-based abilities despite having a tiger as his bonded creature.
While I was mentally breaking down over William's absurd luck, Lucy spoke up.
"I got the egg of a Summer Ruler Snake," she said, grinning from ear to ear.
Her excitement was understandable. The Summer Ruler Snake was closely linked to the Fire element, making it the perfect choice for Lucy, who planned to choose Fire element later. But more than that, this snake had a high chance of evolving into a Fire Dragon—a legendary, near-mythical being. If she succeeded, she'd become one of the most powerful Spiritborns of our generation.
I could barely stand to look at them anymore, their wide grins only twisting the knife deeper into my chest.
With a bit of desperation, I turned to the twins, hoping they had gotten something more… normal. But as soon as I saw their eggs, whatever was left of my heart shattered completely.
Adam's egg was glassy, almost fully transparent. I could see his spiritual creature curled inside—an octopus, but not just any kind. This had to be a Glass Octopus, a rare species known for its near-invisibility. But what shocked me the most was the faint glow it emitted, a sign that it was connected to the Light element.
Then I looked at Lumine's egg. Unlike Adam's, it was opaque, light blue, with a full moon symbol carved into the shell's surface. I instantly realized what it was—the egg of a Moon Jellyfish. Like Adam's octopus, it had a strong connection to the Light element. It was almost certain that both of them would choose Light when they reached 15% fusion.
I forced myself to regain my composure and started thinking. Something was off.
Even though the library held all kinds of eggs, Elemental Beast eggs had no reason to be here. They were far too valuable, usually reserved for those with high-level government backing. Wars had even been fought over a single one of these eggs.
Most spiritual creatures were simply larger, more developed versions of their Earth counterparts, they were called as normal beasts. But some—like these—had evolved to possess elemental affinities, making them far more powerful. Unlike regular beast contracted Spiritborns, they could channel their element even before reaching 15% fusion. However, their elemental power was limited—they could only enhance their spiritual bodies, gain only basic abilities not actually strong elemental abilities. But still, these basic skills could make a huge difference in power compared to normal Spiritborns who just started their journey
That meant only one thing: this had been arranged.
The government must have specifically chosen these eggs for them. Their talents were too valuable, and humanity's current situation too dire, for their growth to be left to chance. Even Teacher Kendrick's spiritual creature—an Angelic Lion—was an Elemental Beast with a Light affinity. It all made too much sense.
But before I could dwell on it further, Teacher Kendrick began speaking.
"Alright, kids, let's head to the Chamber of Awakening. I'll lead you there and show you the capsules where you'll be fusing with your spiritual creatures. Before you enter, don't forget to take a Serenity Pill—it will help you endure the pain of the fusion process."
With that, he turned and started walking, and we all followed.
When we reached the chamber, I was surprised to see no one outside. But the moment we stepped inside, I understood why—it was packed. Students stood with their teachers, receiving final instructions before entering their capsules.
Teacher Kendrick led us to five capsules set aside specifically for us. He pressed a button, and the first capsule hissed open.
"Alright, I'll open them one by one. Step inside slowly when it's your turn, okay?" he said.
Lucy was the first to enter, barely able to contain her excitement. She quickly took her pill before stepping into the capsule. William rushed in next, grinning as he swallowed his pill and climbed inside. The twins followed, both taking their pills before entering.
Then, it was my turn.
I hesitated.
Honestly, I was still worried about my egg. What if it belonged to a completely useless insect? What if I had just ruined my entire future by choosing it?
But there was no turning back now. The library wouldn't allow me to swap my egg—they were far too precious, and every single one was needed for the next generation of Spiritborns.
I swallowed my Serenity Pill and stepped into my capsule. Teacher Kendrick carefully placed my egg inside as well.
For a moment, I just stared at him. He looked strong, confident, powerful. Exactly how I wanted to be.
I closed my eyes.
And then, finally…
I surrendered to the fusion.
