Kaito didn't come back after he left the class. And all what the teacher taught soaked vainly into my ears. My brain literally processes none of it.
When he staggered by me to the restroom, I so much wanted to go after him. When I told the teacher I had a number two emergency situation, he waved me off and insisted Kaito came back. But he never came back. My gaze fell on the door, peeling every paint and writings on it as I waited for him to come back, but he never did.
Now, my face is pressed, worry takes the order as my brow furrows. It's the end of school hours and Petra can't stop giggling and telling me things I obviously have no interest in. She nudges me a while later and asks if I'm listening.
"Of course. So what's the story all about?" I ask vainly. I'm sure I will drift away in thought in the next minute. We walk across the university surrounding to where my bodyguard, Ana, stays waiting for me.
"It's a supernatural novel about werewolves. Humans that turn to wolves on the night of the full moon." She says.
4p
I catch that, and my head turns it's attention to her.
"Werewolves? Like the movie?"
She cackles cutely. "Yesss, like the movie. This book sounds so real that every page feels like it's happening in real life. I was traumatized up to a point." She pouts lip and her face falls in happy grief.
While we pass the volleyball badminton, I catch David's loser friends gawking at me. I can't be more uninterested, I clear my eyes from their direction and settle on my bodyguard who stands, resting on the car door, waiting for me.
We get to my car and hold a halt. "Well, I'll like to see this interesting novel of yours. Bring the paperback with you tomorrow." I add.
"Aye captain!" She stands at attention to salute.
I chuckle and do the same. While her father is a military man who holds a high position in the army, my parents are partners in SakuraTech Industries. One of the most reputable and powerful Asian companies based in America. I was bothersome enough, the heiress to this company. Even when I declared my interest in wildlife photography, this major responsibility is shoved down my throat.
"Anaaaa." Petra draws Ana's name in a rather cute way. She has her ways of saying hi.
"Miss Petra. It's so nice to see you after a long while." Her demure answer has me chuckling.
Anyway, I hop in the car and beckons to my best friend to sit with me.
"Nooo, no, no, you wanna drag my ass to your house and your dad will make me eat those Tonkatsu again." She poke out her tongue as if disgusted.
"You don't like Tonkatsu?" I crack a laugh.
"Not really, but I'll rather settle for pizza and junkies, ya know how it plays…brownies and…pst. You know what girl, just go to Daddy. I'll find my way home."
She shut the car door and wave. Helpless, I wiggle my fingers at her, then Ana settles in too, starts the ignition and drives off.
Phew! So much for the first day of resumption. As my head rests back on the chair, right in the passenger's seat, I allow myself to go back to the sleek, gentle face I met earlier.
Kaito? What an unusual name for an American, unless he has a bloodline rooted in the Asian dynasty.
Then those faces…chiseled jawline with sexy piercing eyes, dark brown and tempting. His round lips go well with his smooth clear facials, tufts of hair hang down his forehead and he stares like the king of seduction.
My phone ping, I raise it up to my face level, it's David, he demands to know where I am. I run a quick reply and send.
Tired. Went home early. Let's talk tomorrow baby. Xoxo.
Back to my thoughts…I know beneath that denim pants and shirt he wore is a huge torso, waiting to be…
"Miss, we've arrived." Shit! Ana's voice cut me off again. I should be pissed but the sight of my ninety years old grandmother kills it immediately. I've not seen her in ages!
I dash out of the car to go to her.
"Grandma Lee." I welp in excitement.
Gosh, she's as strong as a bodybuilder. Except her age and grey, no one, absolutely no one can do a guess work of her age by mere sight of her.
She's clothed in colourful red and green baduk, but against my fashion rule, something I wholy consider a fashion crime is her pair of high heel shoes which surprisingly fits her legs.
"My child, when was the last time I saw you, when you were young, so new like spring. I must commend Mal and Wong for raising you into beauty. You'll make a pretty kitsune." She flashes her teeth.
"Kitsune?" My expression cuts confusion. Just as she's about to elaborate, my parents arrive at the scene with glowing expressions. I glower when I see my first cousin too, Lisa. Not really excited because she makes appearances every weekend here.
My parents are Mal and Wong. Full blooded Asian, though successful in the modern world, we never fail or…they never fail to observe some traditions and rites, which sucks every time.
I laughed at her comment.
"Hi dad, hi mom." I say casually and proceed to plant my dad a kiss. Yes, I'm pretty close to my dad, but my mom? I don't know. All I know is I love her.
"Hi honey. Why don't you come in, you must be tired. I made your favorite dish." My dad says, his hand on the small of my back as he leads me inside.
I don't have time to go to my room, Ana handles my bag for me. I'm dying to eat the food dad cooked. Tonkatsu with shredded cabbage and rice. Yummy.
My stick dig deep into the food, with each food journeying to my mouth and I, downing it like a hungry.
"So why are you here grandma?" I ask after everyone settles.
I see mum and dad stealing glances at each other, Lisa makes an effort to expel something from her throat and my grandma shifts uneasily.
"You didn't orient her?" She throws a confusing look at my parents who smile like they are in control.
Everyone seems to be uncomfortable, I notice. Even Yoyo, my dog, seems petrified.
"Well, on what?" I question. My gaze shifts to my dad, then my mum, finally resting on my grandma.
"Kira, we've got something to tell you. You dad and I initially thought it would be best to reveal it at your twentieth birthday, but that day can't wait."
What is going on? My birthday is in the next three weeks and they have a full revelation to tell…well, it better be good.
