Chapter 18 - who sent you?

Ann tugged on Evans' arms "tell me that am lying, didn't Melissa take money from you to give to her lover, can't you see? She clearly had an affair with that man."

Evans shrugged Ann off his arm. his tone sullen as he coldly spat out. " Listen to me very carefully, that man is Matteo Smith, from smiths family in central city, you can't afford to mess with, little sister."

At that moment, Evans began to doubt, the reason for Melissa asking for a divorce might not only be because of Cathy Hudson, but the entire Reynolds family.

Ann was so stupefied. Although she had never met Matteo Smith, but every woman in elites circle knew that he was the most eligible bachelor in central city.

Always mysterious and noble, all women in town would bent just to marry him, but Melissa was with him.

She was vexed since his brother wasn't backing her up . She thought of thought of a solution so fast. Pocked her phone and made a call. " Bruce, can you help me? I have a job for you."

Meanwhile, at Matteo's office in imperial house,Matteo Smith leaned forword as he listen to Melissa who sat comfortably cross legged in the black executive chairs telling jokes as they chuckled till the phone rang.

It was a call from the executive manager of M.S media house. Mr Steven Daniels. Melissa, Ms Ann got someone to follow and investigate everything about you discreetly. Should l eliminate that person?

Melissa pursed her lips slightly and smiled. Her gaze looked indifferent. " Nah, l will take care of it. Besides, boredom must be killing her, let it keep her busy, l will just flow by her tune, for now."

From Melissa's facial expressions, Matteo knew something is a miss. He frowned slightly and paused for a moment. " Are you okay..."

Melissa nodded her head. " Ms Ann hired someone to follow me secretly, that's all."

Those little tricks didn't bother them, not at all.

Matteo snorted and cast sn eye on Melissa helplessly. " How do you manage to put up with those ones?

"Just close you eyes for a moment, take a deep breath and smile that's all." She replied gleefully.

Melissa had always enjoyed the company of jolie and wanted her to work as her secretary. " Brother, can l work with Jolie? She asked politely as she tickled her brothers hands.

Who could resist Melissa?

Matteos love for his sister was something else, besides, Melissa always gets what she wants.

"Just do what pleases you dia."

She hurriedly picked her selfphon and called jolie informing her of the new job. And also inviting her for outing.

Moments later, Jolie arrived , and they went out, unfortunately their car broke down on the quiet isolated dark street. Only dim lights from the road lights lot the place blurry, as they waited for a mechanic to arrive, Melissa suggested they treked slowly.

She turned and gazed at the driver who was restlessly waiting for a mechanic. " Listen, were treking slowly, when the mechanic is done please call me."

The driver nodded," yes ma'am."

As they trekked slowly down the dimly lit street, the cool night air played with Melissa's hair, giving her a sense of freedom—an escape from the intrigues of the elite society surrounding her life.

She chuckled at a childhood memory, causing Jolie to laugh, her eyes sparkling under the flickering streetlights.

"Remember when we tried to bake a cake and ended up setting the kitchen on fire?" Melissa mused, her expression animated.

Jolie chuckled, recalling the chaos that had ensued. "Heaven helped the fire department that day!"

Unbeknownst to them, a mysterious man was slowly monitoring their movement from behind.

When Melissa turned to look back, whether the driver was behind them , only to glimpse at the man increasing his speed to catch up with them. Finally he reached them.

The lightness of their conversation waned as the mysterious man emerged from the shadows. He stood tall and imposing, draped in dark clothing that merged seamlessly with the night. When he spoke, his voice was a strange mix of charm and menace.

"Greetings, ladies!" he said, flashing a smile that sent shivers down Melissa's spine.

Frustration replaced the jovial mood; an intruder had stepped into their moment of joy. Melissa steadied herself, her pulse quickening. "Who sent you? Who are you?"

The man chuckled, his eyes glinting. "I mean no harm; I merely find myself intrigued. Let's walk together—no need for fear."

No!" Melissa asserted, stepping protectively in front of her friend. "We'll be fine without your assistance."

But the lightness of their no harm; I merely find myself intrigued. Let's walk together—no need for fear."

Jolie gripped Melissa's arm tighter, her voice barely above a whisper. "Melissa, let's keep moving. We don't know what he wants."

The man's gaze lingered on Jolie, and his smile widened disturbingly. "You're tired, dear. How about I carry you?" The proposal hung in the air, thick as smoke.

Listen, we're not interested in your games. If you don't leave us alone, I will make a call—my brother will not take kindly to this." She hoped the mention of Matteo's name would deter him.

The man's demeanor shifted slightly, his confident smile faltering. "Matteo Smith, you say? Quite an imposing figure. But do you think he can truly protect you from all the shadows in this city?"

Melisa looked calmly at the man as she asked. " Who sent you? Who are...you? Mr man!."
