Chapter 10 - Echoes of the Forgotten

A Mind in Turmoil

Eryndor sat on the edge of the bed, his fingers clenched into fists. The flickering candlelight cast long shadows across the room, but his mind was trapped elsewhere.

Those visions… they felt too real.

The cold room. The blood. The voice commanding his execution.

Who was I before this?

The question gnawed at him, more unsettling than the wound on his side. He had memories of his life—his struggles, his journey. But this… this was something else. Something deeper, buried beneath the surface of his mind.

Was I someone else before I awoke in this world?

His thoughts were interrupted as a strange sensation washed over him—like something pulling at his very soul.

Then, the world around him darkened.

---

A Call from the Void

Eryndor opened his eyes, but he was no longer in his room.

Darkness surrounded him, stretching infinitely in all directions. The air was heavy, thick with something unseen.

Then—a voice.

"You are not complete."

Eryndor turned sharply, his pulse quickening. The voice was neither male nor female, neither young nor old. It was… everywhere.

"What… do you mean?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"You have forgotten. But soon… you will remember."

Before he could respond, a blinding pain shot through his skull. Images flashed before his eyes—memories, fragments of a life that didn't feel like his own.

A battlefield. A crimson sky. A name… a name he couldn't grasp.

Eryndor gasped as he was yanked back into reality.

---

A Looming Threat

He jolted awake, his breath ragged. The candle had burned lower, wax dripping onto the wooden desk.

What was that?

Was it a dream? A message? A warning?

Before he could process it, a sudden knock at the door made him freeze.

Too loud. Too urgent.

Eryndor's hand instinctively moved to his dagger.

Something wasn't right.

---

In the Shadows

Outside, standing in the cold night air, a hooded figure watched the inn from a distance. Unlike the previous assassin, this one radiated something far more dangerous.

A smirk crossed their lips.

"Let's see if you survive this one, Eryndor."

The hunt was far from over.
