Chapter 5 - Gear Explosion

Stepping briskly out of the newbie village, Jack tucked away the forbidden scroll [Wrath of the Fire God] and couldn't help but feel a strange tingle. "What is this? A newbie village that's secretly Fort Knox?" He thought about the old man, who not only had access to forbidden spells but also hinted at granting hidden classes. Jack shook his head in disbelief. This dump was practically oozing with opportunities—ridiculous, game-breaking ones at that.

Without wasting another second, he made his way to the wild bull territory. Without hesitation, he raised his rusty iron sword and delivered a solid whack to the nearest bull's underbelly.

-21!

Not bad. Sure, it'd take over twenty hits to bring the beast down, but at least he wasn't swinging at air anymore.

"MOOOOO!"

The bull let out a bellow of pain, lowering its head and charging at Jack with its razor-sharp horns. But Jack, as nimble as a cat dodging a vacuum cleaner, sidestepped the charge with ease.

"Dodging these bulls isn't too hard once you get the hang of it," Jack muttered smugly, patting himself on the back for his impeccable footwork.

And then, just like that, his confidence evaporated.

"MOO MOO MOOOOO!"

The bull's cries apparently doubled as a distress signal because two other bulls grazing nearby suddenly perked up and charged toward Jack like linebackers on steroids.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Jack gasped, taking a step back. "You call for backup when you're losing? What is this, a mob boss convention?"

He'd never imagined that monsters in a newbie village could gang up on players. Back when he was farming slimes, they acted like NPCs from *The Sims*, completely ignoring him even when their buddies were getting slaughtered. But these bulls? Oh no, they were playing on hard mode.

Before the reinforcements arrived, Jack quickly slashed twice at the original bull.

-15! -16!

But just as the numbers floated above the bull's head, the two newcomers flanked him, horns aimed straight for his ribs. Jack dove backward, narrowly avoiding being turned into a human pancake. Rolling to his feet, he scanned the area and spotted a rock lying nearby. Without missing a beat, he scooped it up and hurled it at one of the bulls' hindquarters.

-25!

"Ding!"

System Prompt: You used a thrown rock to deal 25 damage to the wild bull!

Wait, what? Throwing rocks dealt more damage than his trusty iron sword?

Is this even legal?!

Jack stared at the rusted hunk of metal in his hand, utterly baffled. Shaking off his confusion, he jabbed the sword directly into the eye of the bull charging at him. The move earned him a critical hit, but the bull still managed to slam into him, sending him flying backward like a ragdoll.

-55! -50!

Still, hitting the eyes—a clear weak spot—dealt significantly more damage than the bull's own attacks. With 400 HP, Jack could afford to take a few hits without looking like he'd been through a blender.

"MOOOOO!"

The bull bucked and thrashed in agony. Meanwhile, its two buddies weren't content to sit on the sidelines. They charged again, aiming to turn Jack into a bull piñata.

Fortunately, their moveset was as basic as a toddler's dance routine, and they lacked the brainpower to coordinate properly. Jack repeated his earlier strategy, dodging at the last second and making them collide with each other instead.

Sure, this would've been nearly impossible for most players, but Jack prided himself on being a gaming veteran. His footwork might as well have come straight out of a Michael Jackson music video.

Ten minutes later, after a grueling battle involving rocks, swords, and some questionable acrobatics, Jack finally took down all three bulls.

"Ding!"

System Prompt: Congratulations! You've defeated a [Wild Bull] and earned 50 experience points!

Checking the system log, Jack grinned as he picked up three shiny copper coins from the ground. After catching his breath, he prepared to hunt his next target.

Let's face it—the XP gains were decent. At his current rate, he needed 800 XP to level up, meaning sixteen bulls would do the trick. While some players might find this grind painfully slow, Jack didn't mind. Grinding bulls for two hours to level up sounded infinitely better than twiddling his thumbs inside the newbie village.

A few minutes later, Jack found two lone bulls grazing peacefully. After confirming there were no reinforcements lurking nearby, he crept closer, holding his sword casually.

"Hey there, big guy," Jack cooed, flashing a disarming smile. "I'm a friend. No need to worry."

Before the bull could process his words, Jack lunged forward, driving his sword straight into its eye. Weak point strikes—it was the gamer's bread and butter for speeding up leveling.

"MOOOOO!"

With a roar, the bull charged after Jack, kicking off an impromptu game of tag under the blazing sun.

By the time the dust settled, Jack was panting heavily, but he managed to snag two more copper coins—and something else. One of the bulls had dropped a piece of gear!

Thank the RNG gods—it finally happened!

Eyes gleaming with excitement, Jack snatched up the item and examined it.

[Wild Bull Leather Armor] (White Grade) Defense: 4-5 Description: Armor crafted from bull hide, far tougher than your average clothing.

Though still White Grade, it was a clear upgrade over his soldier's leather armor. Swapping it on immediately, Jack's defense increased by 3 points, giving him much-needed breathing room against the bulls.

As for the old soldier's armor? He wasn't about to toss it. Selling it to clueless newbies stuck in the village fighting slimes would surely fetch a pretty penny.

Two hours later, Jack filled his XP bar to the brim. Golden light enveloped him as he leveled up to Level 5. Checking the in-game clock, he saw it was already 8 PM. The server had opened at 1 PM, meaning he'd been grinding for seven straight hours.

Despite his desire to keep pushing ahead and widen the gap between himself and other players, hunger was starting to gnaw at him like a starving raccoon. That single pack of instant noodles from lunch wasn't cutting it anymore. Reluctantly, he decided to log off and grab some food.

Finding a relatively safe spot where he wouldn't spawn-camp himself into a herd of angry bulls, Jack summoned the system menu and logged out.

Taking off his VR headset, Jack reached for his phone and ordered takeout with practiced efficiency.

Ding-dong!

Moments later, the doorbell rang. Opening the door, he was greeted by a delivery driver in a bright yellow uniform holding up a bag.

"Hello, uh… National First-Class Takeout Taster, right? Your chicken fried rice."

The driver glanced at the name on the order, clearly trying (and failing) to suppress a grin.

"Thanks," Jack said dryly, grabbing the food and shutting the door.

Back at his desk, he dug into his meal while scrolling through the game forums.

"It looks like most players are still stuck in the newbie village," Jack mused, reading through posts filled with desperate pleas for help.

What did this mean?

It meant his old soldier's leather armor was going to sell for a fortune.

After a few minutes of browsing, he stumbled upon a particularly intriguing thread titled [How to Obtain Hidden Classes].

"Players are already figuring out how to get hidden classes?" Jack blinked in surprise and clicked on the post.

So, what's the deal with obtaining hidden classes? Everyone knows hidden classes exist in *Everlasting*. The official website even mentions unique hidden classes! But how do players actually get them? Let's dive in together.

Hidden classes can be obtained by players during gameplay. Shocking, right? Even we were surprised.

"Oh, come ON," Jack groaned, slamming the laptop shut. Marketing fluff. Typical.

With a sigh, he wolfed down the rest of his fried rice, strapped his VR headset back on, and logged back into the game.

Time to grind!
