Chapter 2 - The New Book

11:51pm was the time displayed at the top left corner of my mobile phone when I checked. I had been up playing E-Football in anticipation for midnight–I carried on however.

When midnight came, I headed straight to the Webnovel site. I hurriedly search for the new book and found it on his profile. It was tagged new release, and so far hadn't gotten any much attention.

I then added it to my library first before proceeding to read the first chapter.

It wasn't much of a surprise to see that the new book had fifteen chapters already. As this was one of the many feats of the author who had undeniably turned out to be my favorite author.

I found a prologue which I would have normally skipped, but didn't due to the fact that I didn't want to miss out on even the slightest of detail.

Proceeding to read, the prologue was rather short and a bit anticipative. It read:

"It was halftime and the team was three goals behind. Once again the fans were not happy. One could hear their angry shouts and chants directed at one person in particular–the manager.

As Patrick sat in the stands he couldn't help but notice the lack of sync between the players. What's more? It felt like they had lost faith in the manager, his tactics and this wasn't all. Even the fans; it was crystal clear that they too had lost faith in the manager.

He had done some research and had concluded that the team's supporters, were an impatient bunch.

Patrick had been linked with the club for about a week now to take up this job but hadn't given his answer. He had several other offers on the table and was still scrutinizing every offer he had received.

Today, was supposed to be the last game for the current manager if he didn't get a win and that didn't seem like an 'if' anymore cause it was kinda obvious what was going to happen next.

After being named Manager Of The Year at the UEFA Men's Football Awards for last season, having won the League Cup, finished the League at second position with just a goal difference separating his side and the current champions and reaching the champions league finals, all with a newly promoted team who had managed to qualify for Champions League football the previous season.

Patrick was just at the start of his career but was already at his peak. Offers had stormed in since the start of the season but he wasn't in a hurry to take up any of the offers, even though majority of the clubs were ready to accept whatever terms and conditions he was going to propose to them.

But here he was today, with his agent watching the team he may probably coach in the near future. Patrick had earlier considered taking up one of the offers from a top club but had changed his mind after hearing the media describe his achievements last season as "Lucky Charm" and calling him a "One Season Wonder".

From his initial scouting, this team looked promising but were currently struggling after finishing 11th in the league last season and only managing to secure an Europa League qualification due to the fact that they won the Conference League competition last season.

No one had expected him to reach such heights when he had taken up the Bologna job last season and as if it was a challenge, no one believed he would be able to perform this season.

And if there was one thing Patrick liked, it was challenges.

Here, before Patrick stood the perfect challenge–after having heard the boards expectations for the season that is. All he needed now was to confirm one extra thing.

"This is getting interesting..." I murmured as I readjusted myself on my bedding and then continued.

When the second halftime began, Patrick looked to be less concerned about the match in general. He seemed to be interested in something else in particular.

It was at this time that Matheus, Patrick's agent got a call that FC Bayern had now hired Vincent Kompany as their new Head Coach. Though the club hadn't made a formal announcement yet, negotiations were done and the news was already circulating.

After hanging up, he quickly turned around to pass on the news to Patrick but found him in this–match drawn very engrossed state. He knew better not to disturb or interrupt him now, as the news he was about to share could wait. Matheus sighed after taking a look at the young man beside him.

FC Bayern was one of the football clubs linked with which were linked Patrick, although Patrick had made it clear that he wasn't interested in teams which in the big leagues.

Like who wouldn't want to take on such a position? At such a club? In Germany?? He thought. But then it struck him, after leaving his role as Assistant Manager at Barcelona, he had gone ahead to take on the offer from Bologna and here they were.

What a weirdo... Matheus thought, smiling as he took a good look at Patrick once more. Matheus then turned to face the football pitch in front of him, where an unfortunate situation was unfolding.

The weaker team didn't seemed to be doing much as they were constantly being attacked from all angles. Being down by 3 goals wasn't really doing much good to their confidence either. Though they kept trying to turn defense into attack and on several occasions successfully did.

Now they had won a free kick at a good spot–about twenty five yards away from the opponents goal.

"Hit it directly and shift the momentum to your side.." Matheus heard Patrick say just as the whistle went off.

****

Pwwiiii!!!

Pwuuuu!!!

Fuuuwweeeet!!! Went the whistle for full time. The match had now ended, with a scoreline of 5:1. After the free kick, the rest of the match was one-sided with the superior team registering two more goals to add to their two goal lead.

"Hey Matt, send a letter to the club informing them of my decision to accept their offer." Patrick said still looking at the pitch.

"You..? You want to sign with them?" Matheus asked surprised.

"Yes them. Inform them of my decision to accept their offer." Patrick said one more time.

Matheus still couldn't get why Patrick seemed keen on accepting the offer from this team. Even though he made it clear that he wasn't interested in offers from big teams, they were still good offers from other mediocre teams which weren't really struggling.

Patrick sensing his doubts looked at him and smiled. Folding his arms, he continued.

"With this team.. I'm going to achieve great things this season, and the one after." He said confidently.
