Chapter 4 - Closure

I did not know how handle this information

"What did you mean that I was your son? My parents abandoned me, and now all of a sudden I am just supposed to believe that you are my mother? That the great Fleur Murcott was my mother.

"I know this a lot to handle but believe me it is true Sylas."

Sylas was overwhelmed by the revelation. His pale face turned bright red in frustration. A well of feelings beginning to form inside of him. How could he believe this? The only semblance of a parent that he ever knew was Sophia.

"You expect me to just take your word for it? I have no magical capabilities like you!"

Sylas had never felt this angry. He felt rage like never before, and it was all directed at Fleur.

"Why then!? WHY ABANDON YOUR SON?? IF YOU REALLY CLAIMED TO BE MY MOTHER THEN HOW COULD ABANDON YOUR OWN FLESH AND BLOOD?"

The rage was all but visible as if smoke came out of Sylas' head. He could not contain himself any longer. All those nights spent at the orphanage imagining a reunion, and he never imagined that his biological mother would be Fleur Murcott and that they would meet like this.

"I know it seems like that, but....."

"BUT WHAT HUH? It was hard for you to take care of your own child while you went off and explored the world? You could not handle the weight of your actions, and deciding to go off and do whatever you wanted, while I struggled, and spent every single day of my wondering why my own parents did not want me??"

Fleur knew this was to come, but it still hit her harder than anything she had ever felt before. The tears began to swell up behind her eyes. Sylas noticed this and the regret began to build up. He did not even give her a chance to explain herself, yet here he was yelling and rattling off like some spoiled brat.

"I am so sorry my chi... I am sorry Sylas, I know this must have been difficult for you to bare all by yourself. I understand why you are so angry, and you have the right to be. I should not call myself your mother when I was not there to watch you grow up like I should have."

The tears began rolling down Fleur's face. She could not contain the massive explosion of emotion any further.

"I... I... waited for this moment for so long and this is not how I expected it to go." Sylas knew he was being rude, and Sophia's words popped into his mind 'ALWAYS BE KIND'.

"Look I am sorry it's just that I spent my whole life wondering where I came from and now that it was not the fairy tail reunion I dreamed of, it became a little frustrating."

"It is ok Sylas, please let me explain the little bit that I can."

"Little bi.... fine whatever I will hear you out, but I want to go home to my real mother as soon as you are done."

The words stung Fleur at her center, but she understood Sylas' feelings. She began to recount the tail of how this unfolded to Sylas.

"I was a young witch eager to explore the world, and in the midst of it all I fell in love. He and I were basically inseparable from the moment we met. We studied the arcane together and worked to create new magic that would be of help to others. One day I came home and found out that I was pregnant with you Sylas. Your father and I were over the moon. Everything we ever dreamed of was coming to fruition, but it was not long lived, we came across a major problem, but that is a story for another time."

"As for the proof of our relation, and your relation to the arcane. Your eyes, they are sensitive are they not? You can see the essence of magic can you, it presents itself as a white glow around different objects. I have the same ability due to what happened in the past, and the ability manifested in you as well before you were born."

Sylas was too stunned to speak. He never shared this with anybody, not even Sophia who seemed to know everything about Sylas.

"Ok, then why me? Why this glow? Sometimes it is really intense, and how come it reflects itself in my eyes? All the other kids think that my eyes are weird that they seem to probe into them."

"These eyes of ours are a blessing and a curse Sylas, someday you will be able to hide them using magic like I do. These eyes present themselves as silver eyes, but with time you will learn the extent of their abilities."

Sylas listened intently. Knowing that this might be the only closure that he would probably ever get, had few words to say, but the mention of his father did cause his curiosity to grow even further.

"Where is he? My father I mean."

Fleur needed to be honest with him. It was the only hope of her and Sylas growing closer together. "He passed away shortly after you were born Sylas, he wanted you to know that he loved you and that he would always be with you in your heart."

How could the man be in his heart, when Sylas did not even know what he looked like? How could someone love him when they had not even one shared memory?

"I can teach you Sylas. I can show you how to control these eyes of yours and more. I can help you answer all these questions that I never had the chance to do in the past."

Sylas was still facing inner turmoil at this request. He wanted to go back to the orphanage, but the only thing awaiting him was having to leave, and find a way to get into the academy with no guidance. He could never have imagined that this is how everything would have turned out, but this was an opportunity that he could not pass up. What did he have to lose?

"Fleur, I want to go to the Runic Magic Academy. It is the only hope I have of a future, and if anybody could help me get in then it's you."

Fleur was taken aback, she knew that the entrance exams were coming up soon. She stood up from the chair, and looked Sylas deep in his eyes. She could instill in him the abilities to protect himself, as well as provide him a means of survival.

"I will help you Sylas, I cannot guarantee you will get in as the exams are in two weeks, and you have not an inch of an idea of what magic is or how it is used."

"I don't care. I want to take care of the people I care about, I want to protect them too. I want nothing to stand in my way."

"Alright then. Shall we begin?" Fleur saw the sparks in Sylas' eyes. They spoke to a fiery conviction. She knew that he was prepared to make it work, and she would do everything in her power to help him achieve this goal.
