Chapter 1 - Ch 1: The Return of the Legend - Part 1

[You have reached the boss room. Get ready to enter in 3…2…1…]

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the final door opened, and Raven Steel entered the final boss room.

This was it! This was the end of his journey. This was what all his hardships and sacrifices came down to.

"I finally made it here. Now, show me what you look like, you vermin! In return, I will show you what humanity's best has to offer."

Raven yelled, but an empty room faced him. There was no indication of the boss in sight, and Raven was left stumped as he looked at the empty hall in front of him.

All his instincts screamed at him that this was a trap, but the system called it the last room. That meant that this had to be the last room, and the boss that had threatened humanity for the past decade had to be in here.

"Oi! Come out and show yourself to me. Don't you know that I spent half of my life struggling to get this far to face you? Since I came all the way here, the least you can do is die by my hand."

Raven yelled, his loud voice echoing around the chamber he was in. But once again, all he received back was silence.

"Tsk, where is the boss? My senses are not picking up anything."

Raven complained as he looked at his system screen. His eyes fell on the skill 'Mana Sensing,' and it almost felt like the skill was mocking him.

Since there was no one around him, Raven continued to walk further and further inside the room until he reached the center of the dungeon. There were only two things there—a crown that was the dungeon's core and a throne.

"Now, this is something. At least this dungeon knows how to treat its next king. This crown should be the core. Once I destroy it, this dungeon should end…"

Raven sounded confident as he reached for the throne. But even as he closed his hands around the crown, his emotions felt conflicted.

He knew that what he was doing was for the greater good of humanity and that the dungeon needed to be closed for human survival. But a small part of Raven could not help but grieve at losing such a perfect fighting spot.

Fighting had given Raven a purpose, and without it, he would be lost.

"What the heck am I even thinking? Have I lost my mind? Just think about all the shit I got put through because of this dungeon mess. How can I even think about enjoying this situation? Let's destroy the core and get out of here."

Finally, Raven pulled himself together and closed his fist around the crown. It crumbled in his grip, and the final notice of clearance appeared on his screen.

[Congratulations. You have conquered the Dungeon of Finality. Time taken: 10 years. Dungeon will collapse in 10 minutes.]

The dungeon started to shake as soon as the message appeared on the screen.

Raven, who was just starting to get up, lost his balance as well, and he leaned against the throne for support.

"Fucking hell! Give more of a warning before you start to crack like this. Shit! You made the world's strongest human almost fall down and lose his dignity."

Raven cursed, but there was no one to hear him speak in the dungeon.

All the creatures that inhabited the dungeon had already been cleared by him, and the boss that was supposed to show up never did.

The system was of no help either. It was just an interface that showed people's capabilities as stats and abilities. It had no further role like in most novels Raven had read in his youth.

"Let's think about all of this later. For now, I should get out of here. Thank god I found a dungeon stone to get out of here as one of the hidden mission clear rewards."

Raven activated the stone, and a bright light engulfed his body.

One second, he was sitting on the throne in the boss room, cursing the universe and the system out. The next second, he was flying through the air and colliding with the branches.

Shock was the first thing Raven felt, but he quickly recovered and grabbed a branch to break his fall.

The momentum of the fall made Raven's landing easier, and he was able to slow himself down from collapsing.

Raven felt something sharp poking his back as he pushed himself to stand on his feet. That something sharp bit into his back, and he reached back to check what had happened to him.

Something wet met Raven's hand, and he blinked as he noticed that he was bleeding.

"Well, fuck! I didn't even think my body still had blood left inside it. Now, where did I land—?"

Raven questioned as he looked around, but he froze as soon as he realized that he was not alone.

The fall had momentarily dulled his senses, but he was ready to subdue the person in front of him within seconds of regaining his awareness.

A dagger flashed in the sunlight toward the intruder, and the man quickly tried to back off. But Raven was faster, and he held the dagger against the humanoid form in front of him.

Coincidentally, the man standing in front of Raven looked familiar… but Raven was sure he had never seen that man before in his life.

"Well, what do we have here? I thought I finally managed to leave the dungeon, but did I fall into another dungeon as a result? If not, then I would advise you to speak up now. I don't like it when monsters try and pretend to be intelligent. And I especially hate it when they try to play tricks on me using my memories."

Raven's knife was stationary, but it threatened to take the life of an imposter any second.

The more Raven threatened the man in his grip, the more his opponent looked uncomfortable and shocked.

"Huh? You people usually react and retaliate by this point. Are you not even going to try? Well, this is the end for you."

Raven had a hit-first-and-check-later policy, so he raised his knife to bring it down against his opponent.

And finally, the humanoid monster snapped out of it and dodged the attack at the last second.

"W-Wait! Raven, wait—! It's me—Shura! You know, the one you raided the final dungeon with. No, wait! Don't kill me."

The monster seemed to have raided Raven's head deeper than Raven thought. It was even able to grasp the names of people around Raven.

'No, wait! Actually, it can be Shura as well, right? As unlikely as it seems, I did exit the dungeon after all. I should check before I land the final hit.'

Seconds before his final hit collided with Shura, Raven pulled back and flipped backward until he had a safe distance between himself and the other male. He finally brought up the system to check the other male's identity.

[Checking user information…

Name: Shura Black. Level: 100

Special Abilities: Wind Control]

'Well… fuck! The information checks out.'

It was tough for Raven to drop his vigilant stance all of a sudden. Even when his brain knew that he was safe, his body had not adapted to the change yet.

But Raven did become a little more carefree once he was sure that he was not in danger. Seeing Raven drop his weapon made the older male sigh in relief as well.

"Well, looks like I did manage to come back. This is Earth, right? Where did I land? And what are you doing out here, Shura? Did aging cause you to lose your sanity? Or did your wife finally get tired of you and dump you out?"

Raven asked the older male, who still looked to be in shock.

"Fuck you…no wait! This is not what is important right now. How are you here and when did you get out of the dungeon? What happened there?...Let's head back to my house first and then talk."
