Chereads / The Legend of elara / Chapter 6 - 6

Chapter 6 - 6

Elara's head was spinning as she made her way back to the school gates, her heart still racing from the strange encounter with Lily. She was confused, unsettled, and more than ever, she felt the weight of being watched. The once familiar world around her had become a strange, eerie place, like a game she didn't understand. As she walked, her eyes darted nervously from side to side, her senses heightened. Every footstep, every passing student seemed to send a jolt of anxiety through her.

She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't notice the group of girls approaching her from behind until it was too late. They were laughing, their voices sharp and high-pitched, the sound like nails on a chalkboard to Elara's already frazzled nerves. Without warning, one of them—Tara, the leader of the group—bumped into her shoulder, knocking her off balance.

"Watch where you're going, freak," Tara sneered, and Elara barely had time to steady herself before the insults started pouring out.

"Look at her. She's always so weird, like a freakin' ghost," another girl, Jenna, added, her eyes gleaming with malicious amusement.

Elara's face flushed with embarrassment, and she instinctively took a step back, trying to retreat. But they weren't done. Tara grabbed her by the arm, yanking her back towards them with surprising force.

"Where do you think you're going, huh?" Tara taunted, her grip tightening.

Elara tried to pull away, but the girls surrounded her, their laughter ringing in her ears. She could feel the heat of their breath, the weight of their words like stones thrown at her. The pressure in her chest grew unbearable, and her mind screamed for her to escape, to run away.

"Let me go," Elara whispered, her voice trembling, but Tara just laughed louder.

"What's the matter, Elara? Too scared to fight back?" Tara mocked, shoving her lightly.

Elara's pulse hammered in her ears. She wanted to shout, to make them stop, but her voice was stuck in her throat, swallowed by the fear and anxiety choking her. She was frozen, trapped in their cruel game.

Suddenly, one of the other girls pushed her, sending Elara stumbling backward into the wall. The impact rattled her, but it was the insult that followed that cut the deepest. "No one cares about you, Elara," Jenna sneered. "You're invisible. You don't belong here."

Tears stung Elara's eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of seeing her cry. She wasn't going to let them win.

But just as she opened her mouth to speak, to tell them to stop, something inside her snapped. A surge of energy, of desperation, surged through her veins. She couldn't explain it, but the air around her seemed to shimmer with an unseen force. Without thinking, she lifted her hands, her fingers trembling, and before she could stop herself, a blast of air shot out from her palms, sending the girls stumbling backward.

The shock on their faces was immediate, their eyes wide with fear and disbelief. They didn't know what had just happened, but they could sense it. They could feel the power in the air, the tension crackling like electricity.

"W-What was that?" Tara stammered, looking at her friends in confusion.

Elara, wide-eyed and breathless, stared at her hands, her mind racing. She had never done anything like that before. How had she—?

Before she could process what had just happened, the girls started to back off, their expressions a mix of fear and hatred. "You're crazy," Tara muttered, shaking her head. "Stay away from us, freak."

They turned and fled, leaving Elara standing there, still shaking. She felt the air return to normal, the oppressive weight of the moment lifting as the girls disappeared into the crowd. But Elara didn't feel relieved. If anything, she felt more confused and terrified than before.

What had she just done? How had she done that?

The realization hit her like a ton of bricks: something inside her was changing. Something powerful was awakening, and she had no idea how to control it.

Taking a deep breath, Elara turned and walked toward the bus stop. The world around her seemed to blur, the faces of the other students still locked on her as she passed by. She kept her gaze fixed ahead, determined to get away from the chaos of the school. She needed to get home, to find some semblance of normalcy, to process what was happening to her.

But even as she waited for the bus, the feeling of being watched didn't fade. It only grew stronger, as though a thousand eyes were upon her, all waiting for the moment when she would crack, when the truth would finally be revealed.

She couldn't shake the sense that something was coming. Something dangerous. Something she wasn't ready for.

And deep down, she knew that no matter how much she tried to ignore it, there was no escaping what was about to unfold.
