Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Gacha

Barrett Wayne stood in his study, the room illuminated by the soft glow of the afternoon sun filtering through the large windows. The quiet of the manor was both comforting and unsettling, as if the very walls carried the weight of his new responsibilities. He leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed on the translucent interface of his system that floated before him. Today was the day he would finally delve into the gacha system.

The anticipation was a mix of curiosity and trepidation. He had three gacha rolls remaining, and with his newfound understanding of the system's potential, he knew that each roll could significantly shape his journey. Taking a deep breath, he reached out to the interface and initiated the first roll.

First Reward: Broken Wand (Iron)

The interface shimmered, and a small object materialized before him, landing gently on the desk. Barrett leaned forward, his brow furrowing as he examined it. The item was a wand, but it was far from pristine. About a foot long, it was made of a dark, gnarled wood that seemed to have withstood years of wear. The tip was splintered, and faint cracks ran along its surface. Despite its battered appearance, there was a strange aura about it—a faint, pulsating energy that hinted at untapped potential.

Barrett picked it up, feeling the rough texture under his fingertips. The moment he touched it, a faint warmth spread through his hand. "Broken Wand," he murmured, the name appearing in his mind as if whispered by the system. The interface provided a brief description:

[Broken Wand (Iron Rank): A damaged magical implement. While its current state limits its functionality, it holds the potential to bond with its owner and evolve.]

He couldn't help but smile. "You're a fixer-upper, huh?" he said to the wand, setting it aside for now. There were more rolls to go.

Second Reward: Ability Storage Space (1·2 meter) (Silver)

The second roll began, the interface flashing with a myriad of colors before settling on a silvery hue. A notification appeared:

[Congratulations! You have obtained: Ability Storage Space (1·2 meter) (Silver Rank).]

Barrett tilted his head as the description followed:

[A portable storage space that exists in a separate dimension. Current capacity: 1 square meter. Perfect for storing items securely and retrieving them at will.]

The moment the notification disappeared, Barrett felt a subtle shift in his perception, as though a hidden door had opened in his mind. Closing his eyes, he focused, and suddenly, he could "see" the storage space. It was a small, empty void, like a blank canvas waiting to be filled.

"Let's test this out," he said, scanning the room. He picked up a small paperweight from his desk and concentrated on the storage space. The paperweight shimmered and vanished from his hand. Opening his eyes, he willed the object to return, and it reappeared on the desk as if it had never left.

Barrett grinned. "Now this is useful."

Third Reward: Spirit Egg (Silver)

The final roll began, and the interface flashed once more before settling on another silvery hue. A small, oval-shaped object materialized in front of him, resting on a soft cushion of light. It was an egg, about the size of a grapefruit, with a smooth, glossy surface that shimmered with faint, otherworldly patterns. Colors seemed to dance across its surface, shifting from soft blues to gentle golds, like a living piece of art.

[Spirit Egg (Silver Rank): A mysterious egg containing an unknown spirit. Its true nature will be revealed upon hatching.]

Barrett picked up the egg carefully, cradling it in his hands. It felt warm, almost alive, and he could sense a faint pulse of energy emanating from within. "You're full of surprises, aren't you?" he said softly, placing the egg back on the desk. He was tempted to ask the system how to hatch it but decided to save that question for later. There were other matters to attend to.

Achievement Unlocked

As he was admiring the egg, a sudden notification appeared:

[Ding! Achievement Unlocked: Use Gacha 1 Time]

[Reward: 1 Silver Grade Ticket]

Barrett's eyebrows raised. "Achievements, huh? Looks like the system rewards effort and exploration," he mused. With the new ticket added to his inventory, he now had even more potential to explore in the future.

Upgrading Rewards

With three upgrade cards still in his possession, Barrett decided it was time to test their potential. He retrieved the gold upgrade card first and focused on the Ability Storage Space. The interface responded immediately:

[Upgrade Ability Storage Space (Silver Rank) to Gold Rank?]

"Yes," Barrett confirmed. The card dissolved into particles of light, which then enveloped the storage space in his mind. The void expanded, its dimensions increasing dramatically. A new notification appeared:

[Ability Storage Space upgraded to Gold Rank. New capacity: 5·5 meters.]

Barrett couldn't hide his excitement. "This is going to come in handy," he said, imagining all the gear and supplies he could now store.

Next, he turned his attention to the Spirit Egg. Pulling out the platinum upgrade card, he hesitated for a moment before using it. The same process occurred, with the card dissolving into light and enveloping the egg. When the light faded, the egg had changed. Its surface was now adorned with intricate, glowing runes, and its energy felt far more potent.

[Spirit Egg upgraded to Mystery Spirit Egg (Platinum Rank): The spirit within has evolved. Its potential has increased significantly.]

Barrett placed the egg back on the desk, resisting the urge to investigate further. Whatever was inside, it was clearly something extraordinary.

Finally, he turned to the broken wand. Using the silver upgrade card, he focused on the item, and once again, the card dissolved into light. The wand transformed before his eyes, its cracks mending and its surface becoming smooth and polished. The splintered tip reshaped itself into a fine point, and the entire wand seemed to hum with energy.

[Perfectly Bonded Wand (Silver Rank): A magical implement that has bonded with its owner. While still limited in power, it will grow alongside its wielder, adapting to their needs.]

Barrett held the wand in his hand, feeling a strong connection to it. "You're not just a fixer-upper anymore," he said with a grin.
